Napco GEM-KEYF-LR — Long-Range Key-Fob Transmitter Manual

Installation, programming, and battery replacement instructions for the Napco GEM-KEYF-LR long-range key-fob transmitter, compatible with Napco GEM-Series wireless alarm systems.

General Description

The GEM-KEYF is a long-range multifunction pendant/keychain transmitter compatible with Napco GEM-Series wireless systems. It serves as an area arm/disarm device with two auxiliary functions, and can be converted for use as a police panic and/or auxiliary emergency transmitter using the button options supplied. Two 1.5V batteries power the unit, and a flashing LED signals a low-battery warning.

As shipped from the factory, the GEM-KEYF is a remote area arm/disarm transmitter (ON/OFF) with two Auxiliary buttons, A1 and A2. Auxiliary functions are selected by programming the Key Fob Transmitter Aux 1 and Aux 2 options: Panic, Auxiliary, or Instant protection. Any of the panel's Relay Groups may also be selected for controlling garage doors, exterior lighting, or other applications requiring external relays (RM3000 Relay Modules, optional).

Pressure-sensitive labels are supplied for identifying the Auxiliary Buttons. The Aux 1 and Aux 2 buttons must each be held down for approximately 2 seconds before the respective signal is sent.

Low-Battery Check

Batteries are checked automatically during any transmission. A low-battery condition causes the LED to come on for twice the normal time, then start pulsing about once every 1.5 seconds, and a low-battery report is sent to the receiver.

Batteries can also be checked manually by holding down any one key for at least 5 seconds; a weak battery will produce the same extended-then-pulsing LED behavior described above.

Converting for Emergency Use

To convert the GEM-KEYF for use as a two-button police and/or auxiliary emergency transmitter (requires both buttons to be pressed at the same time to signal an emergency):

1. Remove the screw that secures the case and lift off the top cover.
2. Remove the rubber Button Assembly.
3. For police emergency, install the blue Police Buttons in the two upper holes with the cutout facing upward; for auxiliary emergency, install the AUX. Buttons in the two lower holes with the cutout facing downward. If either pair of emergency buttons is not used, install the pair of dummy buttons in its place.
4. Cut Jumper JP1.
5. Program the Key Fob Transmitter Aux 2 option for Panic.
6. Program the Key Fob Transmitter Aux 1 option for Auxiliary.
7. Reassemble the case and slip the neckchain through the eyelet.

Note: The two emergency buttons must be pressed simultaneously to send the respective signal. The LED lights while the unit is transmitting.

Battery Replacement

Replace with two Energizer 386 1.5V batteries.

1. Remove the screw that secures the case and lift off the top cover.
2. Remove the rubber Button Assembly.
3. With the Key Ring Hole facing upwards, carefully lift the top circuit board to allow removal of batteries from the bottom circuit board.
4. Remove the bottom plastic tab to replace the bottom battery, and slide the battery out to the bottom. Insert the plastic tab back into the circuit board.
5. Replace the top battery by sliding it out to the right.
6. Reassemble the case and slip the neckchain through the eyelet.

Required Programming

The following information is required for each unit. Refer to the instructions for the control panel and keypad in use for detailed programming information:

• An assigned Key Fob transmitter number
• Area number(s) to which the transmitter is applicable
• The 6-digit ID code with checksum digit printed on the transmitter (enter all numbers and/or letters, including leading zeros, if any)
• Aux-1 option and Aux-2 option

UL Burglar Alarm Installation Notes

1. If the GEM-KEYF is used to arm and/or disarm the system, the control panel must be programmed to provide a single chirp on arming and a double chirp on disarming. A listed alarm bell or horn must be used.
2. Program the burglary output for all protection devices.

Safety Warning

Napco recommends that the entire system be completely tested weekly. Despite frequent testing, due to criminal tampering, electrical or communications disruption, or other factors, it is possible for the system to fail to perform as expected. Napco does not represent that the product/system cannot be compromised or circumvented, or that it will prevent personal injury or property loss by burglary, robbery, fire or otherwise, or that it will in all cases provide adequate warning or protection. A properly installed and maintained alarm may only reduce the risk of these events — it is not insurance or a guarantee they will not occur.

Warranty

Napco Security Systems, Inc. warrants its products to be free from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for thirty-six months following the date of manufacture. Napco will, at its option, repair or replace any product failing to operate correctly without charge to the original purchaser, within the warranty period. This warranty does not apply to equipment that has been repaired by others, improperly installed, improperly used, abused, altered, damaged, subjected to acts of God, or on which serial numbers have been altered, defaced, or removed.

In case of defect, contact the security professional who installed and maintains your security system; the product must be returned by that professional, shipping costs prepaid and insured, to Napco.

FCC Part 15 Statement

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC rules, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. If this equipment causes harmful interference to radio or television reception, try correcting it by reorienting or relocating the receiving antenna, increasing the separation between the equipment and receiver, or connecting the equipment to an outlet on a different circuit than the receiver. Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the manufacturer could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.
