    Controller Compatibility

    The XAP-810 is compatible with the Luxul Wireless Controller for fast, easy configuration and deployment across multiple access points. If deploying with a Wireless Controller, follow the Quick Install Guide included with the Controller instead of the standalone steps below.

    1. Physical Installation

    The XAP-810 can be mounted three ways using the included mount:

    • Directly to a standard electrical box (several regional formats supported).
    • On a ceiling or wall without a box, using the mount as a template to mark hole locations.
    • On a flat surface, using the included rubber feet attached to the mount.

    Caution: attach the rubber feet to the mount and the mount to the AP before flat-surface placement to avoid overheating and failure.

    Placement Guidance

    • Single AP: the XAP-810's signal is omnidirectional — place it as near as possible to the center of the desired coverage area.
    • Multiple APs: experiment with placement to optimize roaming. Adjacent APs should overlap enough that a client sees both the currently-connected AP and the next-nearest AP, but not so much coverage is wasted. Ideally, roaming clients should see signal strength of -60 to -70 dBm from both overlapping APs at the midway point between them. Luxul recommends using Ekahau HeatMapper (ekahau.com) to help plan AP placement — see luxul.com/how-to-videos and luxul.com/ap-placement for more.

    2. Connecting Ethernet and Power

    Combined power + data (PoE): connect one end of an Ethernet cable to a PoE switch, and the other end to the XAP-810's PoE port.

    Separate power and data using the included PoE Injector:

    1. Data In: connect an Ethernet cable from your router/switch to the Data In port on the PoE Injector.
    2. Data & PWR Out: connect an Ethernet cable from the injector's Data & PWR Out port to the XAP-810's PoE port (cable runs of up to 300 feet are supported).
    3. AC Power: connect the included AC cord to the injector, then to an AC outlet.

    Luxul recommends at least CAT5e UTP cabling; use CAT6 UTP for best performance at 1000 Mbps.

    3. Preparing for Access — IP Addressing

    If your network already uses a 192.168.0.X address scheme and your computer shares that range, skip directly to Access and Setup.

    Otherwise, set a temporary static IP on your configuration computer to any address in the 192.168.0.X range other than 192.168.0.10 (the AP's default address). After configuration, return your computer to its normal setting (typically "Obtain Automatically/DHCP"). See luxul.com/ip-addressing for detailed steps.

    If another device on your network already uses 192.168.0.10, temporarily reassign or disconnect it while configuring the XAP-810. Note the XAP-810 is not a router — it must be connected to a router to provide internet access.

    4. Access and Setup

    Getting Connected

    • Via Ethernet (preferred): connect your computer directly to the PoE switch or injector the XAP-810 is attached to.
    • Via Wi-Fi: connect to the default wireless network "Luxul_XAP810" (2.4GHz) or "Luxul_XAP810_5G" (5GHz). Both run in Open Security mode initially — no passphrase required until you configure wireless security.

    Logging In

    Open a web browser and go to the default IP address 192.168.0.10.

    5. Hardware Operation

    LED Indicators

    LED Meaning
    Green Power LED (solid) AP is powered and working normally.
    Green Power LED (off) AP is not receiving power, or the LED has been disabled in the web interface.
    Green Power LED (blinking) AP is booting.
    Two blue LEDs Indicate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks are each configured and broadcasting.
    PoE Injector PWR LED (on) Injector is receiving power.
    PoE Injector PWR LED (off) Injector is not receiving power — check the AC connection.

    Reset Button

    Located underneath the mount, marked RESET.

    • Reboot the AP: with the XAP-810 powered on, press and release the Reset button.
    • Restore factory defaults: with the XAP-810 powered on, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds, then release — the AP restores defaults and reboots.

    Caution: holding the Reset button for more than a few seconds will restore factory defaults and erase any custom configuration.
