  • Luxul XAP-1610 Wireless Access Point — Quick Install Guide

    August 31, 2026 3 min read

Quick install guide for the Luxul XAP-1610 high-power wireless access point, covering hardware setup, mounting, and initial configuration.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Full quick install guide for the Luxul XAP-1610 Apex Wave 2 AC3100 Dual-Band Wireless Access Point, covering physical installation, PoE wiring, initial access/configuration, LED indicators, reset procedures, and AP placement guidance.

    What's Included

    • Luxul XAP-1610 Wave 2 AC3100 Dual-Band Wireless AP
    • Mounting brackets and hardware
    • PoE injector and power adapter
    • Ethernet cables

Note: The XAP-1610 is compatible with the Luxul Wireless Controller for centralized configuration and deployment of multi-AP wireless networks; if using a Wireless Controller, follow its own Quick Install Guide instead. Confirm the AP is running the latest firmware at luxul.com/firmware-updates before proceeding.

    1. Physical Installation

The XAP-1610 can be mounted three ways:

    1. The included mount attaches directly to several regions' standard electrical boxes.
    2. Mount to a ceiling or wall without a box, using the mount as a template for attachment points.
    3. Place on a flat surface using the included rubber feet attached to the mount.

Caution: Always attach the rubber feet to the mount (and the mount to the AP) for flat-surface placement to avoid overheating and failure.

    2. Connecting Ethernet and Power

To apply power and network simultaneously: connect one end of an Ethernet cable to a PoE+ switch and the other end to the XAP-1610's PoE port.

To connect power and Ethernet separately (using the included PoE Injector):

    1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your Router/Switch to the injector's Data In port.
    2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the injector's Data & PWR Out port to the XAP-1610's PoE port (cable runs up to 300 feet supported).
    3. Connect the AC cord to the injector, then to the AC outlet.

Luxul recommends at least Cat-5e UTP cabling; use CAT6 UTP for best performance at 1000 Mbps.

    3. Preparing for Access — IP Addressing

If your network uses a 192.168.0.X address scheme and your computer shares that scheme, skip ahead to Access and Setup. Otherwise, set a temporary static IP on your configuration computer in the 192.168.0.X range, with the Gateway/Router address set to 192.168.0.10 (the XAP-1610's default IP). Return your computer's IP settings to normal (typically DHCP) once configuration is complete.

    4. Access and Setup

Connecting via Ethernet (preferred): Connect your computer to the same PoE+ switch or injector as the XAP-1610.

Connecting via Wi-Fi: Connect to the default wireless network Luxul_XAP1610 (2.4GHz) or Luxul_XAP1610_5G (5GHz) — runs in Open Security mode with no passphrase until Wireless Security is configured.

Logging in: Open a web browser to the AP's default IP address 192.168.0.10. Default credentials: Username admin, Password admin.

Note: The XAP-1610 is not a router and must be connected to a network with a router to deliver Internet access. If another device on your network already uses 192.168.0.10, temporarily reassign or remove it while configuring the AP.

    5. Hardware Operation — LED Indicators

    • Green Power LED on: AP is powered and working.
    • Green Power LED off: AP is not receiving power, or the LED has been disabled in the web interface.
    • Green Power LED blinking: AP is booting.
    • Two blue LEDs: Indicate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks are configured and broadcasting.
    • PoE Injector ON LED (green): Illuminated = power is reaching the injector; not lit = injector is not receiving power.

    Reset Button

Located underneath the mount, marked RESET.

    • Reboot the AP: With the AP powered on, press and release the Reset button.
    • Restore Factory Defaults: With the AP powered on, press and hold Reset for 10 seconds until the lights begin flashing quickly, then release — the AP restores factory defaults and reboots.

Caution: Holding the Reset button for more than a few seconds restores factory defaults and removes any custom configuration.

    AP Placement Guidance

    • Single AP: Because the XAP-1610's signal is omnidirectional, place it as close as possible to the center of the desired coverage area.
    • Multiple APs: Experiment with placement to optimize roaming — ensure enough overlap that a client sees both its current AP and the next-nearest AP, but not so much overlap that coverage is wasted. Ideally, overlapping APs should each measure -60 to -70 dBm at the midway point between them.
