Linear EXN Access Control System — Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for the Linear EXN Access Control System — a stand-alone, network-ready secondary access control node for gated communities, parking garages, office buildings, apartments, dormitories, hotels/motels, commercial buildings, and recreational facilities.

Introduction

Housed in a locked, rugged stainless steel-faced enclosure secured with a mechanical tamper switch, the EXN's four relay outputs can control electric door strikes, magnetic locks, door/gate operators, or barrier gates. It supports full access event logging, time and location restrictions, and administration functions. The EXN is network-ready — multiple units can interconnect via LAN and mix with other compatible Linear access control products (EN-2A4/EN-2M4, EN-2A7/EN-2M7, EN-2A10/EN-2M10).

• Removable 4GB SD card memory retains all entry codes, transmitter info, card access, and programming

Compatible Accessories

• Wiegand devices: 2N1 Reader (125kHz multi-protocol RFID, supports HID/AWID/Farpoint proximity), plus generic 26–64 bit Wiegand card readers.
• PBUS devices (up to 6 per EXN): AM-RPR Radio Proximity Receiver, AM-KP Exterior Keypad (cast aluminum, keylock secured), AM-KPI Interior Keypad (single-gang, interchangeable bezels), AM-PR Proximity Reader, Wiegand Output Receiver (WOR) for block-coded digital transmitters.

Installation Overview Checklist

1. Mount the enclosure.
2. Connect the outputs and inputs for the access devices.
3. Connect the Wiegand readers and PBUS devices.
4. Connect power to the system.
5. Connect a PC to the Ethernet port to prepare for configuration.
6. Obtain IP address and TCP/IP information from your network administrator and configure network settings.
7. Connect the LAN port to the local area network (if used).

Note: Wiring methods must comply with the National Electrical Code / NFPA 70 and all local codes.

Indicators & Manual Controls

CPU Board LED Indicators

• RECEIVE DATA — lights when data is received from an external I/O board
• RESET — lights on external I/O board reset
• TRANSMIT DATA — lights when sending data to an external I/O board
• BOOT — lights during external I/O board boot
• I/O BUS POWER — lights when I/O bus power is on
• NETWORK ACTIVITY & SPEED — two LEDs on the LAN connector show activity/connection speed
• CPU BOARD POWER — lights when CPU board power is on

I/O Board Pushbuttons

• DOOR "A" LOCK RELAY — manually activates the Door A lock relay
• DOOR "A" AUX RELAY — manually activates the Door A auxiliary relay
• DOOR "B" LOCK RELAY — manually activates the Door B lock relay
• DOOR "B" AUX RELAY — manually activates the Door B auxiliary relay
• SYSTEM BOOT / SYSTEM RESET — reboots the entire system

CPU Board Pushbuttons

• FACTORY RESET — resets to factory defaults. WARNING: deletes ALL programming and cardholder information.
• NETWORK RESET — resets/restarts the system network.
• ADMIN RESET — resets the unit's admin code.
• CPU RESET — resets/restarts the system CPU.

Note: EXN is for indoor use only — do not mount outside.

Troubleshooting

• System completely dead: Check voltage at power supply terminals; check voltage at I/O Board power terminals.
• Entry code won't activate relay: Code not assigned; code not set up for the proper relay; or keypad is in lockout.
• Remote Wiegand device doesn't work: Check device power, wiring, and the Reader #1 select jumper position.
• Remote PBUS device doesn't work: Check the device address switch, power, wiring, and Reader #1 select jumper.
• Remote keypad won't activate a relay: Entry code not assigned; keypad may be in lockout from too many failed attempts (wait one minute); check wiring.
• Transmitter doesn't activate relay: Transmitter button set to "no relay"; transmitter not enrolled; or transmitter deactivated in the system.

Warranty

Nortek Security & Control LLC warrants this product against defects in material and workmanship for 24 months, extended only to wholesale customers buying direct from Nortek or its normal distribution channels (not a consumer warranty).
