Leviton Vizia+ VPT24-1P — 24-Hour Digital Timer Switch Installation Guide

Installation and programming instructions for the Leviton Vizia+ VPT24-1P Digital Timer Switch (Lighted) — a single-pole or 3-way (multi-location) digital timer switch rated Incandescent 1800W / Resistive-Inductive 15A / Motor 1HP at 120VAC, 60Hz.

Warnings & Cautions

• Install and use in accordance with all applicable electrical codes; consult an electrician if unsure of any instruction.
• Vizia+™ electronic switches are not compatible with standard 3-way or 4-way switches — they require compatible Vizia+™ on/off remotes.
• Recommended minimum wall box depth: 2-1/2".
• Use only one Vizia+™ digital timer switch per multi-location circuit, with up to 9 coordinating remote switches (no LEDs) or up to 4 matching remote switches (with LEDs).
• Maximum wire length from the timer switch to all installed remotes: 300 ft (90 m).
• Disconnect power at the circuit breaker or fuse before servicing, installing, or removing the fixture.
• Use with copper or copper-clad wire only.

Tools Needed

Slotted/Phillips screwdriver, pencil, electrical tape, cutters, pliers, ruler.

Installation Steps

1. Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse and verify power is off before wiring.
2. Identify your wiring application: Single Pole (Line/Hot, Neutral, Ground, Load) or 3-Way (Line or Load, Neutral, Ground, First Traveler, Second Traveler — note traveler wire colors). If your wall box wiring doesn't match either configuration, consult a qualified electrician.
3. Prepare and connect wires: straighten and strip wire ends per the strip gauge (5/8" / 1.6cm) shown in the manual. Follow the appropriate wire-nut/conductor combination chart for non-standard applications.
4. Wire per your application:
   • Single Pole: Green/bare copper → Green lead; Line Hot → Black lead; Load → Red lead; Line Neutral → White lead. If the insulating label is missing on the Yellow/Red lead, tape it and ensure no strands are exposed.
   • 3-Way with Coordinating Remote (VP0SR-10, no LED): at the timer switch, Green/bare copper → Green; identified Line Hot → Black; First Traveler → Red; Second Traveler → Yellow/Red (remove its red insulating label); Line Neutral → White. At the remote, Load and First Traveler connect to its BK/RD terminals (unused terminals get both screws tightened); Second Traveler → terminal marked "YL/RD"; Line Neutral → terminal marked "WH".
   • 3-Way with Matching Remote (VP0SR-1L, with LED): the timer switch must be in a box with a Load connection; the matching remote must be in a box with a Line Hot connection, and a Neutral wire must be added to the remote. Green/bare copper → Green lead on the timer; Load → Red lead; First Traveler (becomes Line Hot for this configuration) → Black lead; Second Traveler → Yellow/Red lead (remove insulating label); Line Neutral → White lead. At the remote: Green/bare copper → Green terminal screw; identified Line Hot and First Traveler → terminal marked "BK"; Second Traveler → terminal marked "YL/RD"; Line Neutral → terminal marked "WH".
5. Test the switch before mounting: position wires to leave room in the box, ensure "TOP" faces up on the device strap, partially screw in mounting screws, dress wires with a bend to relieve stress, restore power, wait for the clock/time display, then press the pad until the locator light turns off — the load should turn on. If it doesn't, see Troubleshooting.
6. Mount the switch: turn off power again, tighten mounting screws into the wall box, and attach the wallplate.
7. Restore power at the circuit breaker or fuse. Installation is complete.

The Digital Timer Switch has an internal rechargeable battery backup that preserves programmed settings during a power interruption.

Changing the Faceplate Color

Push in the side at the tab to release the current faceplate. Line up the tabs of the new faceplate and press in each side to attach.

Choosing a Programming Mode

• Pro Mode: up to 50 ON/OFF events for any day or combination (M-Su, M-F, Sa-Su), at fixed times or self-adjusting Sunup/Sundown times. Supports automatic Daylight Savings Time adjustment and a Random mode.
• Standard Mode: up to 3 ON/OFF events for M-Su, M-F, or Sa-Su, fixed times only — no self-adjusting Sunup/Sundown or Daylight Savings Time.

Programming — Pro Mode

1. Set Time, Daylight Savings Option, and Date

1. Gently lift the VPT24 door from the bottom of the push pad until it clicks — the door stays open while programming.
2. Press and hold SET, then Override, until the mode selector flashes; use the arrow keys to choose Pro or Standard mode and press SET.
3. Set hour, minutes, AM/PM, Daylight Savings mode (OFF or AUTO), year, month, and date using the arrow keys and SET to confirm each — the day of week auto-adjusts.

2. Set Sunup/Sundown, Offset, and Time Zone

Sunup/Sundown auto-adjust based on your location's latitude/longitude. Look up your coordinates at www.leviton.com/VPT24 (Longitude/Latitude Coordinates Lookup) — record only the first 2 digits of each (disregard a negative sign). Select your time zone from the options presented based on longitude (Eastern for 60–80°, Eastern/Central for 81–95°, Central/Mountain for 96–110°, Mountain/Pacific/Alaskan for 111–135°, Pacific/Alaskan/Hawaii-Aleutian for 136–143°, Alaskan/Hawaii-Aleutian for 144°+). Set an optional offset (up to 3 hours 59 minutes) to shift the load ON/OFF time before or after actual sunup/sundown.

3. Program ON/OFF Events

1. Press MENU until PRG appears, then press SET to enter programming mode.
2. Select the event number, then the days of the week (all days, M-F/Sa-Su ranges, or a custom combination).
3. Set the event's turn-on trigger: a fixed time, Sundown, Sunup, or Delete to remove an existing program.
4. Set the corresponding turn-off trigger the same way.
5. Repeat for additional events. Press Override to exit programming; the unit also auto-exits after ~30 seconds of inactivity.

Programming — Standard Mode

1. Set the clock: press MENU until SUN appears, confirm, then set latitude/longitude are not used — Standard Mode uses fixed times only.
2. Set hour, minutes, AM/PM, and day of the week, pressing SET after each.
3. Set ON/OFF events: press MENU until PRG appears, press SET, choose the event, select all days or a custom combination, then set the ON time and OFF time for each event.

Timer Overrides & Settings

• Temporary Override: press the push pad to toggle the load (ON to OFF or vice versa) without affecting the schedule.
• Permanent Override: press and hold the push pad for ~5 seconds to hold the load in its current state, ignoring the schedule.
• Change the clock: press MENU until CLK appears, press SET, and adjust.
• Random Mode (Pro Mode only): press MENU until RND appears, press SET, and toggle ON/OFF — adds 1–20 minutes of random variation to each scheduled event.
• Delete All Events: lift the door until it clicks, press and hold SET then Override until the delete prompt flashes, then press SET to confirm — clears all programmed events.

Use with Remote Switches (Multi-Location)

When paired with a remote switch, press the remote's push pad to activate/deactivate a temporary override, or press and hold it to activate a permanent override — either action toggles the load state.

Troubleshooting

Symptom	Likely Cause
Lights flickering or intermittent power to load	Bad load connection; wires not secured firmly with wire connectors at the timer switch or terminal screws at the remote.
Load doesn't turn on and Locator LED stays off	Tripped circuit breaker/fuse; burned-out load; Neutral connection not wired.
