    Installation manual for the Leviton Hi-Fi2 4x4 — a four-zone, four-source digital audio distribution system that powers speakers directly through built-in digital amplification.     Safety Instructions

    • Do not use near water (bathtub, sink, pool, wet basement, etc.).
    • Never push objects into the unit through any openings.
    • Do not block ventilation openings or install near heat sources (radiators, heat registers, stoves, other heat-producing amplifiers).
    • Do not defeat the polarized/grounding plug's safety purpose; consult an electrician if the plug doesn't fit your outlet.
    • Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, especially at plugs and connection points.
    • Unplug during lightning storms or extended periods of disuse.
    • Refer all servicing to qualified personnel if the unit is damaged, exposed to moisture, drops objects inside, or fails to operate normally.
    • Noise exposure: per OSHA guidelines, permissible sound exposure drops with duration — 90dB for 8 hours down to 103dB for 1 hour. Extended exposure to high volumes risks permanent hearing loss.

    Inputs and Outputs (Main Assembly)

    • Remote Audio Inputs / IR Outputs (4 jacks): connect Remote Input Modules (RIM) via network cable.
    • Zone Control / IR Inputs (4 jacks): connect Volume-Source Control (VSC) keypads via network cable.
    • Speaker Connectors: terminals for all zone speakers.
    • Power Supply Input: connects the supplied power supply.
    • Local Audio Inputs (4 jacks): for line-level audio sources located near the main unit.
    • Variable Output (Zone 1): pre-amp output for driving an external amplifier on Zone 1.
    • Page Input: triggers all zones on at preset paging volume (or mutes them) and switches to Source 4.
    • "System On" Output: energizes when any zone is on — used to trigger an auxiliary amplifier's voltage trigger input.
    • Serial Control: connects to a Leviton (or other) controller with a serial interface.
    • Ethernet Port: network access for the Hi-Fi2 Setup Utility, Leviton Music Gateway, or Leviton Dock.
    • Power On / Fault LEDs: per-zone green (on) / red (fault) indicators; Standby LED is green when powered but no zones active.

    Installing Remote Input Modules (RIM)

    • RIMs connect to the Main Assembly via Cat 5 UTP, terminated with RJ45 connectors, using the standard EIA/TIA 568A wiring scheme. Proper termination is critical.
    • Maximum Cat 5 run length: 500 feet.
    • Insert one end into the source input jack (1-4) under "Remote Audio In / IR Out" on the main unit; insert the other end into the "Remote Audio" jack on the RIM.
    • Changing RIM color: remove the faceplate, release the insert's 4 latches (2 per side) with a small screwdriver, swap in the new insert, and reattach the faceplate.
    • IR output frequency: default is 38kHz (works for most audio sources). Cable/satellite boxes often need 56kHz — remove the faceplate/insert and move switch SW1 from "38kHz" to "56kHz". Each RIM ships with an IR flasher (62A08-1) to relay IR commands to the connected source equipment.

    Installing Local Sources

    The Hi-Fi2 4x4 has 4 local source inputs for sources co-located with the main unit — connect via a 3.5mm stereo patch cable instead of a RIM. Each local input shares a signal path with its corresponding RIM input, so only one source (local OR RIM) should be connected per input at a time.

    Installing VSC Keypads

    • VSC keypads connect via Cat 5 UTP (EIA/TIA 568A), max run length 250 feet, into the "Volume Source Control / IR In" jacks (1-4) on the main unit and the "Zone Control" jack on the VSC.
    • First-time zone assignment: press the "src" button on the VSC, then use +/- to select the audio zone (1-4) it will control.
    • Multiple VSCs can be assigned to the same zone (they'll mimic each other) — up to 4 VSC keypads total per system.
    • Changing VSC color: remove the faceplate, release the 4 latches, remove the rubber keypad, install the new rubber keypad and insert, and reattach the faceplate.

    Serial & Ethernet Control

    Connect to an HAI/Leviton Omni or Lumina series controller via the supplied straight-through 4-position modular cable into the "Serial Control" jack, enabling zone/source/volume/power control from an OmniTouch touchscreen or controller program. The Ethernet port enables full network control/configuration and, paired with a Leviton Music Gateway (84A00-1) or Dock (96A00), displays track metadata and transport controls on the VSC.

    Page / Mute Input

    Shorting the two wires on a mono patch cord (via relay contacts or a switch) turns all zones on at the preset paging volume (or mutes them) and switches all zones to Source 4. Releasing returns each zone to its prior source, power, and volume state. If using a solid-state switch, Tip must be positive relative to Ring.

    Speaker Wiring

    • Use 16-gauge 2-conductor or 4-conductor speaker wire (4-conductor stranded recommended), home-run from each speaker location to the main unit.
    • Each zone is designed for one pair of 8-ohm speakers. For additional speakers per zone, use Zone Grouping (linking two zones to share source/volume/power) or the variable output with an external power amplifier.
    • Standard 2-conductor: red = positive, black = negative (or look for a raised line on the insulation). 4-conductor: red/black for one speaker, white(+)/green(-) for the second.

    Variable Output (Zone 1)

    Zone 1 includes a pre-amp variable output for an optional external power amplifier (useful for outdoor areas or large rooms needing more power). Connect via a 3.5mm-to-2xRCA patch cable (Leviton 62A14-1 suggested). If the amplifier has a voltage trigger, also connect it to the "System On" jack — Hi-Fi2 4x4 outputs 5VDC when any zone is on, 0VDC when all zones are off.

    Powering the System

    1. Insert the power supply connector (Part# 95A06-1) into the Power jack (below the Standby LED).
    2. Plug the power supply into an outlet — the Standby LED illuminates and the system starts.

    Warranty

    Leviton warrants Hi-Fi2 4x4 products (OmniLT, Omni IIe, Lumina category) against defects in material and workmanship for 2 years from installation or 30 months from manufacture date, whichever is shorter. Rechargeable batteries are warranted for 90 days. Repair/replacement is Leviton's sole obligation; labor costs for removal/reinstallation are not covered.
