User Guide for the Leviton EVR-Green Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Station, Cat. No. EVB32 — a NEMA Type 4 weatherproof, UL-listed 32A/240V EVSE with SAE J1772™ compliant charge connector, self-testing, and multiple built-in safety systems.

Warnings and Cautions

• Carefully read these instructions and the charging instructions in your vehicle owner's manual before charging. Failure to do so can result in property damage, injury, or death.
• The Charging Station should be installed by an electrician in accordance with electrical codes and regulations.
• Do not use an extension cord to power the Charging Station.
• Do not operate with a visibly damaged AC receptacle, AC supply cord/plug, or charge cord/connector — inspect before each use and replace or contact Customer Service if damage is found.
• Do not attempt to repair or service the Charging Station yourself — opening the enclosure and removing the warranty-void padlock voids the warranty; refer to Customer Support instead.
• Used to charge vehicles equipped with an SAE J1772™ compliant charge port.
• Position the Charge Connector Cord so it won't be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise damaged. Use the Cord Management hook to stow the cord and connector when not in use.
• Retain this guide for future reference.

Overview / Features

• SAE J1772™ Compliant — compatible with all battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) vehicles conforming to this standard.
• Self-Testing Sequence — runs on power-up and again each time the Charge Connector is plugged into the vehicle, to confirm the unit and connection are working properly before charging begins.
• Auto-Restart — resumes charging after a fault condition clears, up to 3 times at 15-minute intervals, with no user intervention required.
• Ground Monitoring Circuit — constantly checks for proper safety ground.
• Contactor Monitoring Circuit — checks the integrity of the AC charging path before and after charging.
• Cold Load Pickup — after a power outage, re-energizes on a randomized 2-15 minute delay to protect the electrical grid from simultaneous re-energizing of multiple chargers; charging resumes automatically after the delay.
• Excessive Cord Strain Detection — de-energizes the cord if excessive pressure is detected on the Charge Connector Cord.

Components

• Enclosure — NEMA Type 4 powder-coated steel.
• Power LED (Green) — illuminates when power is present and the unit is active/ready to charge.
• Charging LED (Amber) — blinks when the Charge Connector is connected to the vehicle and charging is in progress (also blinks during Cold Load Pickup).
• Fault LED (Red) — illuminates or flashes when a fault is present; the Charging LED turns off during a fault.
• AC Supply Plug — UL-recognized cord with NEMA 6-50P configuration.
• Charge Connector Cord — 18 or 25 foot UL-recognized Type EV cable.
• Display Panel — intuitive LED display.
• Lock / Locking Tab — for hard-wire access by an electrician during installation only; once installed, the station should always remain locked. Any servicing after installation requires contacting Customer Support.
• Warranty Void Padlock — for electrician use only.
• Cord Management — storage hook for conveniently stowing the Charge Connector Cord.
• Charge Connector — J1772™ compliant, delivers power to the vehicle.
• Charge Connector Release Button — used to disconnect from the vehicle's charge port.
• Mounting Bracket (sold separately) — supports plug-in wall-mount installation of the Charging Station.

Charging Your Vehicle

1. Connect the Charging Station to the Vehicle

Park close enough that the Charge Connector Cord reaches the vehicle's charge port without stress on the cord. Position the cord so it won't be stepped on or tripped over. Plug the Charge Connector into the vehicle's charge port, ensuring it's fully engaged and can't be removed without depressing the release button. A self-test initiates (Power LED flashes ~3 seconds); if no fault is detected and the connection is proper, the Power LED illuminates solid and the Charging LED begins flashing to indicate charging has begun.

Note: the Charge Connector Release Button must be fully released for charging to start — the connector can't disengage from the vehicle without depressing it, and pressing it stops the charge.

2. Charge Vehicle

Charging begins automatically (assuming the battery isn't already full). Confirm Power LED on, Charging LED blinking, Fault LED off. Disengaging the connector mid-charge stops charging automatically; reinserting it restarts charging after a self-test. After a power outage, all LEDs turn off; on power resumption, the station enters Cold Load Pickup mode (random 2-15 minute delay, indicated by a blinking Charging LED, then a ~3-second Power LED self-test flash) before charging resumes.

3. End Charge

Charging stops automatically once the vehicle is fully charged — confirm Power LED on, Charging and Fault LEDs off. Total charge time varies by vehicle, initial battery state, and other factors (consult your vehicle's owner manual). If charging runs longer than expected, disconnect and contact the vehicle manufacturer. To manually stop charging, disconnect the Charge Connector from the vehicle — the Charging LED turns off to confirm.

4. Disconnect Charge Connector

Caution: once fully charged, the Charge Connector must be disconnected before the vehicle can be moved. Depress the Release Button and unplug from the vehicle's charge port, then loop the cord around the storage hook on the bottom of the Charging Station.

Cleaning

No maintenance is required beyond occasional cleaning. For plug-in units, unplug the Charging Station before cleaning. Use a soft, lightly moistened cloth with a mild detergent solution. Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powder, or flammable solvents such as alcohol. Do not power up the station until it's completely dry.

Limited Three (3) Year Warranty. Leviton warrants to the original consumer purchaser that this product is free of defects in materials and workmanship under normal and proper use for three years from the purchase date. Leviton's only obligation is to repair or replace defective product, at its option, if returned prepaid within the warranty period with proof of purchase date and a description of the problem to Leviton Mfg. This warranty excludes labor for removal/reinstallation, and is void if the product is installed improperly, in an improper environment, overloaded, misused, opened, abused, altered, or not used per its labels/instructions.
