    Instruction manual for the Leviton DOS02 (Occupancy/Vacancy Sensor Switch) and DVS02 (Vacancy Sensor Switch) — Single Pole Wide View Motion Activated Light Controls, indoor use only. Covers wiring, operation, programming, and troubleshooting.

    Ratings

    120VAC, 60Hz — 250W Incandescent, 2A Resistive, 150W LED and CFL, 250VA ELV, 200VA MLV.

    Warnings & Cautions

    • To avoid fire, shock, or death: turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse and test that power is off before wiring.
    • To avoid personal injury or property damage, do NOT install to control a receptacle or a load exceeding the specified rating.
    • Install and use in accordance with electrical codes and regulations. If unsure about any part of these instructions, consult an electrician.
    • To clean, use a damp cloth with mild soap — do NOT use disinfecting products, foggers, sprays, or atomized cleaning agents.
    • No user-serviceable components — do not attempt to service or repair.
    • Use with copper or copper-clad wire only.

    Features

    Mounting Location

    The device responds to temperature changes — do NOT mount directly above a heat source, where hot/cold drafts blow directly on the sensor, or where unintended motion (e.g. hallway traffic) falls within the sensor's field of view.

    Tools needed: Slotted/Phillips screwdriver, electrical tape, cutters, pliers.

    Installation

    Warning: Turn off power at the circuit breaker or fuse and test that power is off before wiring.

    1. Identify your wires. A Neutral wire (if present) or a Ground wire is required for operation. Common configurations: Line/Ground/Load, or Line/Ground/Neutral/Load. If your wiring doesn't match, consult an electrician.
    2. Wire when Neutral is NOT present: connect Line/Load (Black) to Line, Ground (green sleeved wire) to Ground, and the other Line/Load (Black) to Load. Line and load wires can be wired interchangeably.
    3. Wire when Neutral IS present: remove the green sleeve from the white wire; connect Neutral, Line, Load, and Ground as shown in the diagram. Line and load wires can be wired interchangeably.
    4. Test and mount: restore power and wait 10-20 seconds for the sensor to power up.
      • DOS02: lights turn ON automatically with the first motion detected after warm-up, or when the push pad is pressed.
      • DVS02: lights turn ON only when the push pad is pressed.
      If lights don't turn on, see the troubleshooting table below. Turn off power at the breaker again before completing final installation — gently push wires into the wall box, screw the light control to the box, install the wallplate, then restore power.

    Operation

    • RED indicator light: flashes any time motion is detected.
    • GREEN locator/indicator light: turns ON when the load is OFF.
    • Press either the TOP or BOTTOM of the button to turn the load ON/OFF manually.

    Programming

    How to Change Settings

    In order to... Do this... Indicator light will...
    Enter programming mode Hold TOP and BOTTOM button for 5 seconds GREEN light solid ON for 5 seconds (if nothing happens, already in programming mode)
    Change settings (Timer, Sensitivity, Ambient Light) Single press TOP button to advance to next setting RED light blinks to indicate the setting selected (e.g. Setting 1 = 1 blink/sec)

    If there is no activity for 30 seconds, the device automatically exits programming mode and changes are NOT saved. Multiple settings can be changed and saved in a single programming session.

    Setting Types and Options (defaults in bold)

    Occupancy vs. Vacancy Mode (DOS02 only)

    • Occupancy mode: Use when automatic ON/OFF lighting control is desired. Turns light ON when a user walks into view while the light is OFF and it's darker than the set ambient light level, OR when the TOP/BOTTOM button is pushed. Light turns OFF when no motion is detected for the programmed time period, OR the button is pushed. Ambient light options: 1-Low (turns on automatically if room is darkest), 2-Medium (turns on if room has more light), 3-High (turns on if room has the most light), 4-Disabled (light always turns on regardless of ambient light).
    • Vacancy mode: Use when Manual ON, Automatic OFF lighting control is desired. Light turns ON only when the button is pushed. Light turns OFF when the button is pushed, or when no motion is detected for the programmed time period, OR the user moves around within 30 seconds of the light turning off.
    • Note: When manually turning the light OFF via the button, the sensor ignores motion for 30 seconds so you can exit the room without re-triggering the light.

    Occupancy/Vacancy Switch (DOS02 only): Remove the color kit and wallplate to access the OCC/VAC toggle switch.

    Advanced Modes

    Mode To Enable Behavior
    Test Mode Press and hold TOP of button for 5 seconds. Exit: press TOP or BOTTOM, or auto-exits after 2 minutes. Turns the load on for 5 seconds each time motion is detected. RED light blinks 1x/2 sec. Locator LED disabled while active.
    Temporary Bypass Mode (occupancy sensors only) Press and hold BOTTOM of button for 5 seconds. Exit: press TOP or BOTTOM. Ignores motion, keeping the light/load off. GREEN light double-flashes every 2 seconds.
    Programming Mode Hold TOP and BOTTOM of button for 5 seconds. GREEN light solid ON for 5 seconds.

    Sensing Area Coverage

    Horizontal field of view: Major motion coverage ~900 sq ft (up to 30 ft), minor motion coverage ~400 sq ft (up to 15-20 ft), depending on angle from the sensor.

    Vertical field of view: Effective coverage extends from roughly 40-48 inches mounting height out to 20-30 ft.

    Changing Device Color

    Remove the existing color kit cover and replace with the desired color option.

    Troubleshooting

    Issue Suggested Adjustment
    Lights don't operate with push pad and RED indicator doesn't blink when motion is present Verify wiring connections to the sensor.
    Lights don't switch ON when motion is detected (DOS02) Motion may be beyond sensing range — move closer to the switch; adjust the light level lower (Option 3/2/1 or disable).
    RED light blinks (indicating motion) but load doesn't turn on Could be due to ambient light setting, or check the Occ-Vac switch is in OCC position.
    Lights always stay ON Check time delay settings vs. actual on-time; confirm no motion occurs in the coverage area for the selected time by covering the lens; check the switch isn't near a heat source or detecting motion from an adjacent area (e.g. hallway traffic) — relocate if so.
    Lights don't turn ON (DVS02) Make sure the control is installed correctly, power is ON, and the light bulb is functional.
