Setup, DIP switch configuration, connections, and back-focus adjustment instructions for GE Interlogix (Kalatel) KTC-series black-and-white and color CCTV cameras.

    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

This manual covers the GE Interlogix (Kalatel) KTC-510/515/540E black-and-white and KTC-810C/815C/840CE color analog CCTV cameras, covering lens setup, DIP switch configuration, connections, back-focus adjustment, and troubleshooting.

    Setup

Warning: Do not expose the unit to moisture.

    1. If using a C-mount lens, screw on the C-mount adapter first.
    2. Screw the appropriate lens to the camera.
    3. Set the lens mode switch to match the lens type:
      • DD — auto iris lens without amplifier (DC type)
      • VD — auto iris lens with built-in amplifier (Video type)
      • AES — manual iris lens
    4. If using an auto iris lens, insert the iris lens plug into the auto iris lens connector.

For auto iris lenses with a built-in EE amp: connect NC (no connection), Red (9VAC power), Black (ground), and White (video) per the lens instructions. For auto iris lenses without an EE amp, connect the Damping Coil (+/-) and Driving Coil (-/+) leads per the lens instructions.

    DIP Switch Settings

    Switch Options
ATW/AWB Auto-tracking white balance / auto white balance (color cameras only)
BLC ON/OFF Automatic backlight compensation on/off
NAGC/SAGC Automatic gain control normal (30dB) or super (36dB)
    r = .45 / r = 1 Gamma correction (default .45)
L-LOCK/INT Line-lock (external, default) or internal synchronization

    White Balance (ATW/AWB)

ATW mode (default): Color temperature is monitored continuously, and white balance adjusts automatically via an internal micro-controller across a 2500–9500K range.

AWB mode: The camera uses white as a reference to adjust red/blue content based on the scene. If color temperature changes continuously and the camera loses its reference, switch to ATW.

    Backlight Compensation (BLC)

A digital light-level control system activated automatically via screen histogram (contrast) and 225-area window weighting integration, controlling iris gain and white balance simultaneously. Combines Central Window Weighted Average (best for a fixed main subject) and Histogram (best for a moving main subject) methods. Compensation may be insufficient when the background is extremely bright.

    Gamma Correction

Electronically matches the brightness level seen by the camera to the level displayed on the monitor for correct contrast. Standard setting is .45 (default); use the manual switch only if monitor controls provide insufficient adjustment.

    Synchronization

Line-Lock (external, default): Sync pulses reference the supply frequency; phase adjust buttons synchronize cameras on different power phases for roll-free pictures.
Internal: Uses an internal sync generator when the camera is powered from 12VDC.

    Connections

    1. Attach the monitor's video-in BNC connector to the camera's VIDEO OUT connector.
    2. Loosen the ~AC24V/DC12V and GND terminal connectors on the terminal block.
    3. Connect the power source to the terminal block (not polarity sensitive — either lead can go to either terminal).
    4. Retighten the terminal connector screws until snug.
    5. Supply power to the unit; the power LED illuminates. If not, check the terminal block connections and power source.

    Additional Adjustments

    Back Focus Thumbwheel

Back focusing matches the lens' back focal length with the camera's imaging device, ensuring a sharp image across lighting conditions. Adjust in low light, with the iris fully open (minimum depth of field):

    1. View an object approximately 75 feet (23m) away.
    2. If the lens has a focus ring, set to infinity (turn fully clockwise from the front).
    3. Set a manual iris to the widest opening, or use a filter to force an auto iris fully open.
    4. Using the included screwdriver, turn the back focus thumbwheel screw counterclockwise to unlock it.
    5. Adjust the back focus thumbwheel to achieve the sharpest image.
    6. Lock the thumbwheel screw with the included screwdriver.
    7. Position the camera for the required view and fine-tune focus with the lens' focus ring only.
    8. For auto iris lenses, adjust the lens level (DD Level) for the position and environment.

    DD Level (DC-Type Lenses)

When the lens mode switch is set to DD, set the lens iris level adjustment to ensure correct exposure for the camera's position and lighting.

    MON OUT (BNC)

Accepts a local monitor's BNC connector, or a test monitor for checking camera setup.

    External Sync Phase Adjustment

Caution: This adjustment must be made by a qualified service person or installer. The vertical phase of the camera video signal can be synchronized to the AC power line phase using a dual-trace oscilloscope on the video output signal, adjusting the line-lock phase control buttons, or using a KTS-56 V-Phase Adjustment Tool. In line-lock mode, this is automatic.

    Troubleshooting

    Problem Probable Cause Solution
No picture on monitor Lens cap still in place Remove the lens cap
No power to camera Check power LED; check camera power supply if unlit
Monitor not functioning Connect a test monitor to MON OUT to check for local video
Camera not set up for lens type Set lens mode switch (VD/DD/AES); ensure auto iris plug is connected properly
Picture quality poor Dirty lens Clean the camera lens
Monitor setup / termination incorrect Verify monitor settings, termination, and cable integrity
DIP switch not set properly Verify DIP switch settings (see DIP Switch section)
Camera not focused Adjust back focus thumbwheel and lens focus ring
Lens type mismatch Attach/remove C-mount adapter as appropriate; check DD level
