Overview

Product bulletin for the Decora Smart with Z-Wave Plus Technology family — Leviton's line of in-wall dimmers, an in-wall switch, and plug-in modules for appliances and lamps, all built on Z-Wave Plus for advanced wireless lighting control.

Product Family

The family includes five devices: in-wall dimmers, an in-wall switch, and plug-in modules for both appliances and lamps. Most devices support a wide range of load types — LED, CFL, incandescent, and others, at various wattages — with multi-way capability for large rooms or hallways.

Load Compatibility Notes

• Compatible with LED, CFL, incandescent, or 120V halogen fixtures only. For a current list of compatible LED/CFL bulbs, see leviton.com.
• When multiple bulbs are used with one dimmer, all bulbs should be the same technology (all LED, all CFL, or all incandescent) — using the same make/model for every bulb improves dimmer performance.
• If circuits are operated at a dim level with all lamps inoperative, excess current may flow through any magnetic low-voltage transformer in the circuit. To avoid transformer failure from overheating, use a transformer with built-in thermal protection or a fuse on the primary windings.
• Z-Wave Plus technology is designed for distributed communication — large clustering of communicating devices in one centralized location (e.g. a single closet) is not recommended, as metal junction boxes and dense exterior materials can reflect RF energy and block communication to detached buildings.

Installation (General)

Full step-by-step wiring diagrams are included with each individual device (single-pole, 3-way with coordinating remote, and 3-way with matching remote applications, following the same Vizia RF+™ wiring conventions used across Leviton's Z-Wave switch/dimmer line: Line/Load/Neutral/Ground plus Yellow-Red traveler for 3-way). At a high level:

1. Turn OFF power at the circuit breaker or fuse before wiring — test that power is off.
2. Identify your wiring application (single-pole vs. 3-way) by comparing your wall box wiring to the diagrams included with the specific device.
3. Connect Green/bare copper to the Green ground terminal; Line, Load, and Neutral to their marked terminals; for 3-way applications, connect the traveler wire(s) per the matching-remote or coordinating-remote diagram.
4. Test the device before final mounting, then complete mounting and attach the wallplate.
5. Restore power and add the device to your Z-Wave network via your hub/controller's inclusion process (SmartStart QR-code scanning, Network Wide Inclusion, or Classic Inclusion depending on your controller's capabilities).
