Leviton 47603-0C5 — Category 5e Voice and Data Board Instructions

Installation instructions for the Leviton 47603-0C5 Category 5e Voice and Data Board — an expansion component for adding modular voice/data distribution capability to a Leviton Structured Media enclosure (SMC).

Overview

The Category 5e Voice and Data Board is an expansion component used to add modular voice and data distribution capability to any Leviton Structured Media enclosure (SMC).

Installation

Route and terminate up to six Category 5 or Category 5e cables from the wall jacks to the 4-Pair 110 IDC connectors lining the sides of the board, using an industry-standard punchdown tool. Each cable should be fully terminated (all 4 pairs) on one of the 110 IDC connectors.

Application Examples

For Data

Identify the cable you wish to activate and connect one end of a Category 5 or 5e patch cord into the corresponding module port and the other end into an installed data hub.

Example: A computer and printer are in a home office, and the goal is to access the printer from computers in two bedrooms.

1. Route cables to the two office jacks (computer and printer) to the corresponding 110 IDC connectors for Ports 1 & 2.
2. Route cables to the bedroom jacks (2 bedroom computers) to the corresponding 110 IDC connectors for Ports 3 & 4.
3. Install Category 5 or 5e patch cords from ports 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the module to ports on a Data Hub (follow the hub manufacturer's instructions). The 3 computers and printer are now networked. (An optical print server is required.)

For Voice

Connect a patch cord from a dial-tone source, such as Leviton's Telephone Line Distribution Module, to the port on the Category 5e Voice and Data Module that you wish to activate.

Wiring Notes

• The Voice and Data Module ports are 8-position, 8-conductor (8P8C), but designed to also accommodate 6-position patch cords.
• For some cables, wires for jack pin numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8 may have a white stripe — this is equivalent to solid-color wires for the same pin numbers.

Standard wiring color order: White/Blue, Blue, White/Orange, Orange, White/Green, Green, White/Brown, Brown.
