    User's guide for the Legrand On-Q 4 Port Gigabit Enhanced Router/Switch (P/N DA1054) — a hardware-configurable network device that operates either as a router with an integrated 4-port Gigabit Ethernet switch, or as a 5-port Gigabit Ethernet switch for use with a third-party external router.

    Overview

    The DA1054 is the perfect solution to connect a small group of PCs to a high-speed broadband Internet connection. Up to 253 users can share high-speed Internet access simultaneously via a single IP address (Internet account) from a Cable/xDSL modem. Built-in NAT technology also serves as an Internet firewall, monitoring and filtering all incoming data packets, with optional Client Filtering to control internal users' Internet access. The built-in 4-port Gigabit Ethernet Switch eliminates the need for an additional hub/switch.

    Note: Legrand Unity systems need to be upgraded to firmware release 2.2.x or later to properly function with this router.

    Physical Description

    The Router/Switch connection area includes: a DC Input connector (power supply), a WAN (Internet) port — 8-position RJ-45 jack to Cable/DSL/FIOS modem, Local Switch Ports — 8-position RJ-45 jacks from room outlets, a Routing Switch that disconnects the router from the 4-port switch when an external router is used (converts the WAN port to a 5th switch port; requires power re-cycle), and a Reset Button (a quick press cycles power; a 10-second press and hold restores factory defaults, clearing all user settings including username, password, IP address, and subnet mask).

    Status LEDs

    • Power — solid green when power is supplied
    • Link/Act — solid green indicates a functional LAN or WAN link; off means no connection
    • 1000 — solid green indicates the port is operating at 1000 Mbps; off indicates otherwise

    Installation

    Best installed during new construction in two phases: "rough-in" (before drywall) and "trim-out" (after drywall is installed and painted).

    Rough-in Steps

    1. Run a single dedicated Cat 5e/6 cable in the walls from the structured wiring enclosure to each outlet location requiring Internet service, leaving extra cable at both ends. Run Cat 5e/6 at least 12" from electrical cabling (preferably in a separate stud cavity) and cross electrical cables at a 90° angle; use loose Velcro-style ties for bundling, and specialty staples if stapling is required to avoid compressing the cable.
    2. Install a single-gang box or low-voltage bracket at each outlet location, with extra cable left in the box (or fished-out after drywall).

    Trim-out Steps

    1. Terminate the Cat 5e/6 at each outlet with a 110 punchdown tool onto an RJ45 insert and attach to a wallplate, installed in the box/bracket.
    2. At the structured wiring enclosure, terminate the Cat 5e cables from outlets with a 110 punchdown tool onto a Legrand Network Interface Module, or with RJ-45 plugs using an EZ RJ45 Modular Plug Hand Tool (P/N 364555-01) for direct connection to the DA1054.
    3. Install the DA1054 in the structured wiring enclosure by slipping the tabs into the square holes and using the push pin in a round hole to secure it.
    4. If outlet cables were punched down at a Network Interface Module, connect Cat 5e/6 patch cables (sold separately) from the Network Interface Module to the DA1054's input ports.
    5. Connect an additional Cat 5e/6 patch cable from the DA1054's WAN port to the Cable/DSL Modem, and make sure the routing switch is in the "On" position.
    6. Power the DA1054 with the included AC-to-DC adapter, plugged into an AC source.

    Note: Use proper tools and standard TIA 568A rules to prep and terminate Cat 5e/6 cable — a Cat 5 Cable Stripper, RJ45 Crimp Tool, and 110 Punchdown Tool.

    Initial Configuration

    Configure from a laptop connected directly to a Local Switch Port, or from a PC in any room connected through an outlet patched back to the enclosure. Either way, the PC needs an Ethernet Network Interface Card set to DHCP (obtain IP addressing automatically). The Router/Switch's default IP address is 192.168.40.254 on subnet 255.255.255.0.

    1. With the PC connected to a local port and the front-panel routing switch in the "On" position, open a browser and enter 192.168.40.254.
    2. Log in with username admin and password admin, then click OK.
    3. The System Status screen appears after login. Click "Setup Wizard" in the upper left to step through initial configuration, or manually configure via "Operation Mode" or "Management" to change username/password, upgrade firmware, restore factory defaults, or backup/restore settings.

    Recommended browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.00+ with Java support (or Firefox/Chrome).

    Network Settings

    Setup Wizard Steps

    1. Select the WAN Access Type — Gateway mode or Bridge mode, depending on your network environment
    2. Choose the time zone and Daylight Saving Time (affects log entries and firewall settings)
    3. Set up the LAN interface — default IP 192.168.40.254, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 (can be changed)
    4. Set up the WAN interface — enter details for the selected WAN Access Type (DHCP Client requires no manual entry, since the IP is obtained automatically from the ISP)
    5. Click Finished — the router reboots automatically to apply the configuration

    Network Operation Modes

    Mode Description
    Bridge All Ethernet ports are bridged together and the client connects to the ISP access point. NAT is enabled; PCs on Ethernet ports share the same IP to the ISP through the LAN.
    Gateway Device connects to the Internet via ADSL/Cable Modem. NAT is enabled; PCs share the same IP to the ISP through the WAN port. Connection type set up in the WAN page: Static, DHCP Client, PPPoE, PPTP, or L2TP.

    WAN Interface Setup — Connection Types

    Type Description
    DHCP Client Dynamic IP assignment — the typical setup. Default MTU: 1492 bytes.
    Static IP Fixed IP setup with IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS 1-3 provided by your ISP. Default MTU: 1500 bytes.
    PPPoE Requires a User Name and Password from your ISP (case-sensitive), plus Service Name and Connection Type (Continuous, Connect on Demand, or Manual). Default MTU: 1452 bytes. Idle Time default: 5 minutes (1–1000 min range, for Connect on Demand).
    PPTP Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol connection.
    L2TP Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol connection.

    Additional WAN options include IGMP Proxy, Ping/Web Server access on WAN, and IPsec/PPTP/L2TP/IPv6 pass-through for VPN connections — all individually enabled via checkbox on the WAN interface page.
