  • La Crosse Alerts TX60U-IT — Temperature & Humidity Add-On Sensor Manual

    August 31, 2026 4 min read

Instruction manual for the La Crosse Alerts TX60U-IT wireless temperature and humidity add-on sensor with threaded wet probe, for use with a La Crosse Alerts Gateway.

    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

The La Crosse Alerts™ TX60U-IT is a wireless temperature and humidity add-on sensor with a threaded wet probe. It measures ambient air temperature and humidity (Channel 1) and, using the included 6 ft. detachable temperature probe, water/soil/air temperature (Channel 2 — wet probe). The sensor pairs with a La Crosse Alerts Gateway (sold separately) to upload readings to a web-based monitoring account.

    Package Contents

    • TX60U-IT wireless temperature and humidity sensor
    • Mounting hardware
    • Instruction manual
    • Activation key card (important for setup — do not discard)
    • 6 ft. temperature probe wire with threaded stainless steel probe (1/8 inch Fine Pipe Thread)

Additional equipment needed (not included): Internet Gateway, AC adapter and LAN cable; two fresh AAA (IEC LR03, 1.5V alkaline) batteries; a browser with high-speed internet; a network router (or switch if no LAN ports are free); aluminum tape.

    Typical Applications

    • Humidity monitoring: pianos and musical instruments, greenhouses, reptile terrariums, cigar storage/humidors, allergy control (dust mites & mold), laundry rooms/basements at rental properties
    • Storage conditions: RV storage, warehouses, long-term storage
    • Temperature monitoring (wet probe): pools, spas, hot tubs, aquariums, terrariums, bird baths, home beer brewing
    • Temperature monitoring (dry probe): refrigerators, freezers, food service, computer/server rooms, soil temperature for farms/gardens/greenhouses

    Setup & Activation

See the Activation Card included in the package for setup instructions and the Activation Key — it is required to activate the sensor and Gateway. Create an account and activate devices at www.lacrossealerts.com using a computer or tablet. Your account includes 1 year of enhanced service with alerts, plus 4 years of basic service.

If the optional Channel 2 probe is unplugged, the LCD displays “nC” for that reading. A wet or dry probe can be plugged in at any time without resetting the units.

Once activated, you can download measurement logs as a CSV file (viewable in Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, or similar software).

    Important Setup & Operation Notes

    • Place the sensor in a dry, shaded area — avoid direct sun, which causes incorrect readings.
    • The sensor case is weather resistant, not waterproof. Fog and mist will not harm it, but direct rain must be avoided; do not submerge the sensor case.
    • Wireless range is up to 200 ft. (60.96m) in open air with no obstructions. Each obstruction (roof, walls, floors, ceilings, thick trees) roughly halves the range; metal siding, stucco, and some glass can reduce range by up to ¾ or more.
    • If mounting near a hot tub, mount the transmitter far from the electrical motor that drives the pumps (electrical noise can interfere with the signal).
    • Test the transmitter in the selected mounting location for 1 hour before making any permanent property alterations.
    • The sensor measures and updates temperature/humidity on the LCD every 6 seconds; the account report interval is set in your online account.

    Mounting

    With screws:

    1. Remove the mounting bracket from the sensor.
    2. Place the mounting bracket over the desired location.
    3. Mark the mounting surface with a pencil through the 2 bracket holes.
    4. Screw the mounting bracket onto the surface and tighten.
    5. Insert the sensor into the bracket.

Table-standing: with the mounting bracket installed at the bottom or top of the sensor, it can be placed on any flat surface. Before permanently fixing the bracket, place the unit in the desired location and confirm signal reception first.

Threaded probe in a bolt hole: cover the threads with 3 layers of Teflon tape (not included) before inserting into a bolt hole to prevent movement.

Caution: do not alter or change your property until you have considered all installation options. La Crosse Technology is not responsible for alterations made by the homeowner to their property.

    Battery Replacement

    1. Remove the battery cover by sliding it down.
    2. Install 2 AAA batteries observing correct polarity — make sure they fit tightly and don't spring free.
    3. Do not mix old and new batteries, or mix alkaline/lithium/standard/rechargeable types.
    4. Replace the battery cover by sliding it upward and ensure it is secure.

When batteries are low, the LCD shows a low-battery indicator and you'll receive an email or text alert — change batteries immediately. The LED turns on briefly after a battery change and turns off to save power; previously stored sensor data is not affected during a battery swap.
