Installation and programming guide for the Jasco Z-Wave In-Wall Wireless Smart Switch (Model ZW4005 / 14318).

    Overview

A Z-Wave Certified in-wall wireless lighting control switch. Can be turned ON/OFF manually at the switch or remotely via a Z-Wave controller, included in Groups and Scenes, and used in single-pole installations or with up to two Jasco Add-On switches in 3-way/4-way wiring configurations. Compatible with all incandescent and CFL/LED bulbs. Ships with interchangeable white and light almond paddles.

    Important

The fixture controlled by this switch must not exceed 960W incandescent, 1800W (15A) resistive, or ½ HP motor. Designed only for use with permanently installed fixtures. Rated and intended for use with copper wire only.

NEUTRAL White Neutral wire (use included jumper if needed)
LOAD Black Connected to lighting fixture
    GROUND Green/Bare Ground connection
TRAVELER Red/Other 3-way/4-way installations only — keep insulated if unused in a 2-way system

Wire gauge: 14 AWG or larger, rated for at least 80°C. Strip length: 1" (25mm) for screw terminals, 5/8" (16mm) for enclosure holes. UL-specified screw tightening torque: 14 Kgf-cm (12 lbf-in).

    Installation Steps

    1. Turn off power to the branch circuit at the service panel. All wiring must be done with power off.
    2. Remove the wall plate and switch mounting screws; carefully remove the existing switch from the box without disconnecting wires.
    3. Label the existing wires according to their terminal connections before disconnecting them.
    4. Connect the green/bare ground wire to the GROUND terminal.
    5. Connect the black wire going to the fixture to the terminal marked LOAD.
    6. Connect the black wire from the electrical service panel (Hot) to the terminal marked LINE.
    7. Connect the white wire to the NEUTRAL terminal (use the included jumper wire if needed).
    8. Insert the switch into the box carefully, avoiding pinched or crushed wires.
    9. Secure the switch with the supplied screws and mount the wall plate.
    10. Reapply power at the fuse box or circuit breaker and test the system.

Note: For 3-way installations, refer to the Jasco Add-On switch manual. Do not connect the traveler wire or apply power in a multi-switch (3-way/4-way) setup until Jasco Add-On switches are correctly installed — connecting the traveler terminal to a standard, non-Jasco switch will cause damage or improper function.

For multi-gang boxes, it may be necessary to break off one or both scored tabs on the front yoke — this does not affect the switch's electrical rating.

    Basic Operation

The connected light can be controlled two ways: manually from the front panel rocker, or remotely via a Z-Wave controller.

    • Turn ON: press and release the top of the rocker.
    • Turn OFF: press and release the bottom of the rocker.

    Changing the Paddle Color

    1. Lift the Air Gap tab at the base of the paddle.
    2. Push the side tabs in on each side to release the paddle, then lift the cover off.
    3. Insert the new paddle's air gap and side tabs and snap it securely into place.

    Z-Wave Network Setup

    Adding to a Z-Wave Network

    1. Follow your Z-Wave certified controller's instructions to include a device.
    2. Once the controller is ready, press and release the top or bottom rocker of the switch to include it.
    3. Once confirmed, refresh the Z-Wave network to optimize performance.

    Excluding / Resetting

    • To exclude: follow the controller's exclusion instructions, then press and release the top or bottom rocker to remove the switch from the network.
    • To factory reset: quickly press the ON (top) button 3 times, then immediately press the OFF (bottom) button 3 times. The LED flashes ON/OFF 5 times when successful. Use only if the network's primary controller is missing or inoperable.

This device supports Lifeline (Association Group 1). Advanced configuration features are adjustable only through a Z-Wave controller supporting the Z-Wave Configuration command class — see www.jascoproducts.com/z-waveconfig for the full list of adjustable configurations.

This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor, increasing network reliability.

    Safety Warnings

Risk of fire, electrical shock, and burns. Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances — the controlled appliance may be in a different room, and unintentional activation can occur from a wrong remote button press or timed-event programming. Do not use Z-Wave devices to control electric heaters or other appliances that could become hazardous from unattended or automatic power-on. Z-Wave enabled devices should never be used to supply power to, or control the on/off status of, medical or life support equipment.
