Complete installation and operating instructions for the Winland WaterBug® WB-200 electronic water detection device.
Complete installation and operating instructions for the Winland WaterBug® WB-200 electronic water detection device.
The WB-200 is a fully electronic water leak detector designed to detect the presence (or absence) of water only — it cannot detect distilled or deionized water. It is not a self-contained warning device: it must be used in conjunction with an alarm system, sounder, or other signaling device. The control console mounts on a wall or other flat vertical surface, and up to 6 remote probes can be wired in parallel to the two "sensor" terminals, placed wherever water leakage is most probable. A thin film of moisture bridging the two metallic contacts on any probe is enough to trigger an alarm. The output is non-latching and resets automatically once the probe dries and the moisture bridge is broken. The WB-200 will not false-alarm due to high humidity or condensation, making it suitable for homes, offices, computer rooms, warehouses, and similar spaces.
Relay contacts are accessible on the terminal block: VAC/+VDC, Ground (VAC/−VDC), Relay N.C., Relay N.O., and Relay Common. The WB-200 is in normal condition when power is applied and no moisture is detected; it enters alarm condition when water is detected at any connected probe.
If bolting a remote probe down for a permanent installation, drill only in the innermost center recessed area. Drilling anywhere else may damage internal wiring and cause the WB-200 to fail. Ensure the four stainless steel probe contacts are firmly against the surface being monitored.
The WB-200 can also monitor for the absence of water (i.e., a minimum water level) by mounting the probe at the desired minimum waterline and using the opposite set of relay contacts you'd use to detect the presence of water. Test weekly to ensure proper operation.
Note: Concrete can be semi-conductive. If you experience false alarms, insulate all probes mounted on concrete.
To test operational status, form a water bridge between the two metallic contact points on a probe using a moistened finger or cloth. If working properly, the WB-200 will activate the connected warning device within approximately three seconds, and will reset automatically once the probe dries and the moisture bridge is broken.
