    Installation and pairing guide for the Jasco/GE ZW1002 (model 55256) Z-Wave In-Wall Tamper-Resistant Smart Outlet — a Z-Wave certified in-wall duplex receptacle with one always-on outlet and one remotely/manually controllable smart outlet.

    Key Features

    Important Load Limits

    The device plugged into the Z-Wave-controlled outlet must not exceed 960W incandescent, 1/2HP motor, or 1800W (15A) resistive. The combined maximum rating for BOTH outlets together is 1800W (15A) resistive load.

    Wiring / Installation Steps

    1. Shut off power to the circuit at the breaker box or fuse box. Verify power is OFF before continuing.
    2. Remove the wallplate, then the outlet mounting screws.
    3. Carefully remove the outlet from the wall box.
    4. Disconnect the wires from the existing outlet, labeling each wire by its previous terminal connection.
    5. Match wires to the three screw terminals on the new Z-Wave smart outlet:
      • A. LINE (hot) — Black (connected to power)
      • B. NEUTRAL — White
      • C. GROUND — Green/bare
      Component labels: D. Always-on outlet, E. Manual/program button, F. Z-Wave controlled outlet.
    6. Insert the outlet into the box carefully, without pinching or crushing wires.
    7. Secure the outlet using the supplied screws, then mount the wallplate.
    8. Reapply power at the fuse box/circuit breaker and test the system.

    Wiring Requirements

    • Follow the recommended wire strip length: 5/8 in. (16mm).
    • UL specifies screw tightening torque of 14 Kgf-cm (12 lbf-in).
    • Screw terminals are intended for copper wire only — consult a qualified electrician if you have aluminum wiring.
    • Use 14 AWG or larger wire rated for at least 80°C for line (hot), neutral, and ground connections.

    Adding the Device to Your Z-Wave Network

    1. Follow your Z-Wave certified controller's instructions to add a device to the network.
    2. Once the controller is ready to add the device, press and release the program button on the outlet.
    3. Refer to your controller/gateway manual for further instructions. Once added, you have full control of the outlet via groups, scenes, schedules, and automations programmed by your controller — including remote/mobile access if your controller supports it.

    S2 security code: If prompted, refer to the QR code/security number on the side of the box or the product's QR code label, and enter the 5-digit PIN.

    SmartStart: SmartStart-enabled products can be added to a network by scanning the product's QR code with a controller that supports SmartStart inclusion — no further action needed; the product joins automatically within 10 minutes of being powered on near the network.

    Removing / Resetting the Device

    1. Follow your Z-Wave controller's instructions to remove a device from the network.
    2. Once the controller is ready to remove the device, press and release the manual/program button.

    Return to factory defaults: Press the button three times, then press and hold for at least three seconds. The LED will blink five times to confirm. Only use this if your network's primary controller is missing or inoperable.

    Basic Operation

    The connected device can be turned ON/OFF two ways: manually via the front program button, or remotely via your Z-Wave controller.

    LED Cycle Options

    Press the program button 10 times quickly to cycle through LED behavior options:

    1. LED is ON when the load is ON (default — indicates outlet is on)
    2. LED is ON when the load is OFF (acts as a guide light in the dark)
    3. LED is always OFF
    4. LED is always ON

    Z-Wave Interoperability

    This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network alongside certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor, increasing network reliability.

    Supports Association Command Class (3 Groups):

    • Group 1 — Supports Lifeline, Binary Switch Report
    • Group 2 — Supports Basic Set, controlled with the local load
    • Group 3 — Supports Basic Set, controlled by double-pressing the ON or OFF button
    • Each Association Group supports up to 5 total nodes
