Instruction manual for the Jasco/Enbrighten In-Wall No-Neutral Smart Dimmer (Model ZW3012 / SKU 56590) — a Z-Wave smart dimmer switch that installs without a neutral wire connection.

Overview

The ZW3012 is a Z-Wave-certified in-wall dimmer that turns lights ON/OFF and adjusts brightness manually or remotely via a Z-Wave controller. It requires no neutral wire, works with incandescent and most dimmable CFL/LED bulbs, and can be installed as a single-pole switch or expanded to 3-way/4-way wiring using up to four compatible add-on switches (model 46560).

Important Safety Warnings

• Shock hazard: Turn OFF power to the branch circuit at the service panel before wiring. All connections must be made with power OFF.

• Switch mode is designed to mimic an ON/OFF switch. This dimmer is rated and constructed for lighting loads only — cannot be used with fans or motor loads.
• Z-Wave enabled devices should never be used to supply power to or control the ON/OFF status of medical or life-support equipment.

Installation

Wire Gauge Requirements

This dimmer is rated for and intended to only be used with copper wire. Use 14 AWG or larger wires suitable for at least 80°C for line (hot), load, ground, and traveler connections. Strip insulation 5/8 in. (16 mm) for attachment using the enclosure's holes. UL specifies the tightening torque for the screws is 14 Kgf-cm (12 lbf-in).

Single-Switch Wiring

1. Shut off power to the circuit at the circuit breaker or fuse box, and verify power is OFF before continuing.
2. Remove the wallplate and switch mounting screws, then carefully remove the existing switch from the box without disconnecting the wires.
3. Note the four screw terminals on the dimmer: A. GROUND (green/bare), B/C. LINE or LOAD (black), D. TRAVELER (red/other, only for 3-way installations). Match these to the wires connected to the existing switch, then disconnect and label the old wires.
4. Connect the green or bare copper ground wire to the GROUND terminal.
5. Connect the black wire from the light to either LINE/LOAD terminal.
6. Connect the black wire from the electrical service panel (hot) to the other LINE/LOAD terminal.
7. The traveler terminal is only used for 3-way or 4-way wiring — do not use it in a 2-way system (one switch, one load).
8. Insert the dimmer into the switch box, being careful not to pinch or crush wires.
9. The dimmer must be independently mounted (vertical position only). Secure with the supplied screws and mount the wallplate.
10. Reapply power at the fuse box/circuit breaker and test the system.

Multi-switch (3-way/4-way) wiring: Refer to the add-on switch (model 46560) manual for instructions. Connecting the traveler terminal of this dimmer to a standard switch will cause damage or improper function — do not connect the traveler wire or apply power until add-on switches are correctly installed.

Changing the Paddle Color

Optional, and done before installation:

1. Lift the air gap tab at the base of the paddle.
2. Push side tabs in on one side, then the other, to release the paddle. Lift the cover up and off.
3. Put the new paddle onto the dimmer by inserting the air gap and side tabs, snapping securely into place.

Basic Operation

Manual Control (Front Panel Rocker)

• Press and release the top of the rocker to turn the fixture ON.
• Press and release the bottom of the rocker to turn the fixture OFF.
• Press and hold the top of the rocker to increase brightness.
• Press and hold the bottom of the rocker to decrease brightness.

Cycle LED Light (Status Indicator)

The LED below the dimmer acts as a guide light or status indicator. Cycle through options by pressing up three times and down once quickly.

1. LED ON when the load is OFF (guide light in the dark) — default
2. LED ON when the load is ON (indicates the dimmer is ON)
3. LED always OFF
4. LED always ON (illuminates the dimmer in the dark)

LED Bulb Brightness Thresholds

Performance varies between dimmer brands and LED bulb types, which can cause flickering or strobing. This dimmer allows setting minimum and maximum brightness thresholds to compensate:

• Minimum dim threshold: Press OFF button four times, then ON button once quickly. Light starts at the most recent minimum dim level (default 1%). Press the rocker until the bulb reaches desired brightness without flickering. The LED stops flashing 10 seconds after release to confirm the setting. (Z-Wave configuration parameter 30, size 1 byte, values 1–99, default 1)
• Maximum brightness threshold: Press ON button four times, then OFF button once quickly. Light starts at the most recent maximum brightness (default 99%). Press the rocker until desired brightness is reached without flickering. (Z-Wave configuration parameter 31, size 1 byte, values 1–99, default 99)

Only bulbs designed as dimmable should be used on a dimmer. Check the bulb package or contact the manufacturer to confirm dimmability. See www.ezzwave.com for a list of recommended CFL/LED bulbs.

Switch Mode

Switch mode mirrors the behavior of a simple ON/OFF switch without adjusting brightness.

• Engage switch mode: Press ON button five times, then OFF button five times. The LED blinks five times to confirm.
• Disengage switch mode: Press ON button five times, then OFF button five times. The LED blinks five times to confirm.
• When switch mode is engaged, manual/remote/voice ON commands turn the light to 100% brightness; any OFF command turns it to 0%.

Z-Wave Network Configuration

Adding the Device to a Z-Wave Network

1. Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to add a device to the network.
2. Once the controller is ready, press and release the top or bottom of the smart dimmer rocker.
3. If prompted for the S2 security code, enter the 5-digit PIN from the QR code/security number on the box or product label.

SmartStart-enabled products can also be added by scanning the QR code with a controller providing SmartStart inclusion — no further action is needed, and the product is added automatically within 10 minutes of being powered on near the network.

Removing the Device

1. Follow the instructions for your Z-Wave certified controller to remove a device from the network.
2. Once the controller is ready, press and release the top or bottom of the smart dimmer rocker.

Factory Reset

Only use if the network's primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable. Quickly press ON (top) button three times, then immediately press the OFF (bottom) button three times. The LED flashes ON/OFF five times when completed successfully.

Association Groups

This device supports the Association Command Class (3 groups, 5 nodes max per group):

• Group 1 — Lifeline, Multi-level Switch report
• Group 2 — Basic Set, controlled with the local load
• Group 3 — Basic Set, controlled by double-pressing the ON/OFF button

This product is Z-Wave interoperable and can be added to any Z-Wave network alongside certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery operated nodes act as repeaters to increase network reliability regardless of vendor.
