Installation instructions for the Intrasonic Technology RETRO-M retrofit intercom and music distribution system, designed to replace an existing whole-house intercom using existing wiring.
Installation instructions for the Intrasonic Technology (IST) RETRO-M Retrofit Intercom & Music Distribution System — designed to replace an existing whole-house intercom system using the existing in-wall wiring, without needing to rewire the house.
The Retro system is designed to reuse existing wiring — if the existing wiring has 3, 4, 6, or more wires, select 3 wires per station. Maximum run length is 350 feet per station. It's an 8-ohm based system: external speakers must be high-efficiency, 8-ohm rated. Lower-rated speakers can degrade performance or damage the system.
| Room stations | Up to 11 |
| Patio stations | Up to 2 (can double as room stations) |
| Door stations | Up to 2 |
| Auxiliary input | 1 |
Tape measure, wire stripper/cutter, hammer, drill, screwdrivers, tin snips, volt/ohm meter, pry bar.
MyDoor connectors: two tether connectors to the adapter bracket, Lock #1 and Lock #2 relay outputs (each supports up to two locks/strikes), a reset/programming button (hold 10 seconds to reset), a Micro SD card slot (up to 64GB, oldest data overwritten when full), an Ethernet/RJ45 port for CAT5 connection, and an adjustable camera.
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| Cannot hear music at room stations | Check radio volume in master settings is turned up; confirm master isn't set to audio off |
| Cannot hear room intercom | Check intercom volume in master settings; check system wiring |
| What happens if power goes off? | A battery backup preserves owner-selected settings through most outages |
| Where's the battery backup / how to replace it? | Behind the front panel, upper right corner, under a single-screw cover. Replacement battery is a CR2032 — match polarity. |
| Can't hear music source in the AUX wall plate | If a source is also plugged into the master's docking station, that source takes priority — unplug it to hear the AUX plate source |
| Various operation issues | Unplug all room/patio/door stations from the master PCB, confirm the master works alone, then reconnect stations one at a time to isolate a bad wire run or defective station |
