User manual for the HomeSeer HS-FS100+ Z-Wave Flex Sensor — a multifunction Z-Wave Plus module combining a temperature sensor, controllable buzzer, and a port for optional external light or water sensors, for triggering home automation events and scenes.

Overview

The HS-FS100+ Flex Sensor works with any Z-Wave certified home controller to launch automation events or scenes. Applications include:

• Triggering events on temperature changes.
• Using the built-in buzzer as an audible notification.
• Using the optional light sensor to trigger events when an appliance's indicator light turns on/off (e.g. "dehumidifier is full").
• Using the optional water sensor to trigger events when water is detected near basement walls, plumbing fixtures, or appliances.

Configuration & Hardware

The Flex Sensor has a Z-Wave network button (for inclusion/exclusion), an LED indicator, and a micro-USB connector for use with an AC power adapter (not included). A 3.5mm jack connects the optional wired light or water sensor. Z-Wave commands transmit temperature, light, and water data, and control the built-in buzzer.

Physical Installation

Install 3 AAA batteries (not included) inside the Flex Sensor and mount it in your chosen location using the supplied double-stick tape, mounting plate, and hardware.

Z-Wave Network Installation

Inclusion

1. Attach the included light or water sensor cable. Put your home controller into Z-Wave "inclusion" mode.
2. Press the Z-Wave network button on the front of the unit once. Wait for inclusion to complete (may take some time).

Exclusion

1. Put your home controller into Z-Wave "exclusion" mode.
2. Press the Z-Wave network button once and wait for the process to complete.

Factory Reset

Use this when the Z-Wave controller is missing or inoperable: press and hold the Z-Wave button inside the sensor body for 10 seconds. Success is confirmed when the LED flashes 5 times.

Built-in Temperature Sensor

Transmits temperature data via Z-Wave every 60 minutes on battery power; this interval is adjustable when the unit is line-powered (see Parameter 3 below).

Optional Light Sensor

Mounts over any indicator light. Notifies the controller via Z-Wave command and beeps 5 times when light is detected; sends another command when light is no longer detected. Checks for light every 60 seconds on battery power, or every 400ms on line power.

Optional Water Sensor

Detects moisture along the entire length of its cable — useful for detecting leaks over extended distances and around appliances. Extension cables can extend coverage up to 300 feet. Notifies the controller via Z-Wave and beeps 5 times when water is detected, sending another command when water is no longer detected. Checks for water every 60 seconds on battery power, or every 400ms on line power.

Buzzer

The built-in buzzer emits a single beep when activated by a Z-Wave command.

Z-Wave Association

The Flex Sensor supports Group 1 association, which reports the sensor's status and battery level (if running on batteries).

Wake-Up Settings

The Flex Sensor can be programmed to wake up and report battery status based on a set polling interval. Wake-up is not supported when line-powered.

• Available range: 6–1500 minutes.
• Default setting: 0 (disables regular reporting; requires manual wake-up to send updates).
• Default when added to a HomeSeer system: 12 hours.

Important Notes

• Line-powered devices function as Z-Wave repeaters. If powering the Flex Sensor with batteries, include it into your network while on battery power to prevent it from repeating Z-Wave commands — this would quickly deplete the batteries.
• If your controller supports S2 security encryption, the Flex Sensor adds as a "secure" device; otherwise it adds as non-secure. This does not affect functionality.

HomeSeer Technologies, LLC will repair or replace, at its option, any part of the device found defective in workmanship or material under normal use (in the USA, excluding Alaska and Hawaii) for one year from the purchase date. Repairs and parts are provided free of charge during the warranty period, provided the device was operated per manufacturer guidelines.
