Overview

HAVEN Connect Z is a high-strength, floor-mounted Z-Wave enabled smart lock — described by HavenLock as 10x stronger than a deadbolt. Rather than replacing your existing door lock, HAVEN acts as a barrier at the base of the door that prevents a closed door from being forced inward when blunt force is applied near the outside door handle. It is intended as supplementary security used in conjunction with your existing lock hardware, not a standalone entry lock.

Important Safety Information

• HAVEN will not prevent someone from accessing your home via other means, including special tools or removing elements of the door.
• If you experience a break-in attempt with HAVEN installed, HavenLock recommends replacing the unit.
• Do not attempt to disassemble the unit or remove components not explicitly covered in the installation manual.
• Do not press the pedal and locking gate at the same time.
• Owner is responsible for providing alternative access in the event of fire, smoke, carbon dioxide, or other home emergencies, and for ensuring proper fit and correct installation.
• Use caution when placing HAVEN in a doorway during installation and use — it can be a trip hazard. Do not place HAVEN on unapproved surfaces.
• Do not install near live electrical cords, wires, cables, pipes, or other hazards.
• The product is designed for indoor use only — do not use on wet surfaces, damp locations, or expose to weather.
• Do not simulate a break-in to test the unit — this may damage it and affect later functionality.

What's in the Box

Getting Started

1. Charging: push the Reset button through the pinhole to wake the unit from shipping mode. Plug the charging cable into the power adapter, open the Control Panel cover, and plug into the Charging Port. The status LED flashes yellow every 2.5 seconds while charging. Each lock ships with >30% charge; allow 6–8 hours to fully charge before use.
2. Cycling the Lock: cycle the lock (lock/unlock via the foot pedal and lock gate) a minimum of 10 times before installation to properly stretch and calibrate the internal nylon straps, which can settle during shipment. Cycling via the app at least 5 times helps ensure the servo motor is properly engaged.
3. Include in Z-Wave Network: push the Pairing button to start the inclusion process (see Z-Wave Operation below).

Installation

Tools required: power drill, pencil, Phillips screwdriver, measuring tape, 1/8" drill bit, Phillips drill bit.

1. Ensure clearance path: HAVEN is 0.8" high and should fit under most modern doors — a standard nickel standing on edge can gauge the gap. Medium resistance against weather-stripping is acceptable. When locked and against the threshold, HAVEN should touch at least 0.25" of the door for full security; add risers if needed. Mark the center of the closed door with a tape measure.
2. Spacing distance from the door: press the included orange spacer against the door to find the correct placement distance so the locking gate won't interfere with the door when closed. Align the template with your centering marks and mark the 6 template holes on the floor with a pencil.
3. Drill holes into the floor: using a 1/8" drill bit, drill pilot holes 2" deep in at least 4 of the 6 marked holes, favoring the side closest to the doorknob for strength.
4. Remove the locking gate cover: remove the 4 small Phillips screws on the back of the locking gate. Line up HAVEN with the pilot holes (locking gate down); place any needed riser(s) first, then the lock on top.
5. Secure to the floor: firmly secure with 4–6 install screws — do not over-tighten (can damage internal mechanisms). Replace the locking gate cover while the gate is up.

LED & Sound Indicators

Z-Wave Operation

HAVEN Connect Z operates in any Z-Wave network with certified devices from other manufacturers; all mains-powered network nodes act as repeaters to increase reliability.

Buttons

• Reset button (small hole, use a paperclip): performs a microprocessor reset or wakes the device from shipping/sleep mode.
• Pairing button (larger, finger-press): used for network inclusion, exclusion, and factory default/removal (Device Reset Locally). Hold until the red LED comes on (~10 seconds) to default the device — use only when the primary controller is missing or inoperable.

Network Inclusion / Exclusion

• Uses S0 or S2 Access Control security. Inclusion can be standard, NWI (Network Wide Inclusion), or SmartStart.
• If the Device Specific Key (DSK) is added to the controller's provisioning list, the lock is added automatically within 5 minutes.
• Set the controller to include mode and momentarily press the Pairing button to add HAVEN. If the controller supports S2 security, you'll be prompted for the first 5 digits of the DSK (the Pin Code), located on the QR code label under the electronics hood.
• SmartStart-enabled controllers can add the device automatically within 10 minutes by scanning the Z-Wave QR code.
• To remove, set the controller to exclude mode and press the Pairing button, or hold the Pairing button until the red LED illuminates (use only when the primary controller is missing/inoperable).

Battery State & Charging

• Battery state is checked on startup, every 5 minutes thereafter, and reported every 24 hours to the Lifeline.
• Below 25%: battery report sent, red LED flashes every 5 seconds (“Charge battery soon”).
• Below 10%: red LED flashes every 5 seconds and chirps every 30 seconds (“Charge battery now”) — the gate will no longer raise but can still be lowered.
• Charger plugged in: yellow LED flashes every 2.5 seconds. When fully charged, LED returns to a magenta heartbeat flash.
• HAVEN Connect's main battery lasts 3–5 months on a single charge under normal use — charge every 2–3 months.

Configuration Parameters

Impact detection uses a built-in accelerometer tuned by parameters 3 and 4. When the gate is up and the transient threshold is exceeded, a Home Security notification (Impact Detected) is sent to the Lifeline.

Troubleshooting

Important Safeguards

• Charge low batteries immediately — typical battery life is 3–5 months under normal use.
• Protect your password — do not share it with anyone you don't trust.
• Turn on notifications in your Z-Wave controller app and smartphone settings to track access and admin actions.

Warranty

HavenLock provides a one-year limited warranty on manufacturing defects in mechanical and electronic components, covering only the original purchaser for private use. Improper installation, misuse, alteration, neglect, or battery malfunction void the warranty. At its option, HAVEN will repair, replace, or refund the original purchase price for a defective unit. Labor costs, shipping/freight, and incidental/consequential damages are not covered.
