Installation and Operating Instructions for the HAI UPB 6-Button Room Controller (Model 38A00-1) — wiring, factory-default scene behavior, custom lighting scene configuration, and reset instructions.

    Full text manual (for reference)

Installation and Operating Instructions for the HAI UPB™ 6-Button Room Controller (Model 38A00-1) — a wall-mounted keypad that controls lighting scenes on UPB Wall Switch Dimmers via two-way powerline communication.

Read these instructions before installing. Installation should follow the National Electrical Code and local regulations — a qualified electrician is recommended. Indoor use only. Connect only copper or copper-clad wire. Ensure all power is disconnected at the circuit breaker before installation — installing with power on may expose you to dangerous voltage and damage the device.

    Overview

The HAI UPB 6-Button Room Controller enables lighting control for a room where HAI UPB Wall Switches are installed, using UPB two-way powerline communication to talk to HAI controllers, UPB Wall Switches, and other UPB devices. It has six pushbuttons labeled ON, A, B, C, D, and OFF (custom engraving available), each slightly backlit for visibility in a dark room. Depending on configuration, one pushbutton is distinctly illuminated to indicate the current pressed state or active scene. Lighting scene buttons A-D can be individually configured, since UPB Wall Switch Dimmers store preset light levels and fade rates.

    Changing the Switch Bezel Color

The controller ships with a white bezel; additional colors are available from your HAI distributor. With the device fully disconnected from power:

    1. The bezel attaches with two small Phillips head screws (upper-right and lower-left corners). Unscrew both and remove the bezel from the back housing.
    2. Align the new bezel's mounting holes with the installation pins on the back housing, then secure with the same two screws.

    Installation Instructions

    1. Disconnect all power at the wall box by turning off the circuit breaker.
    2. If replacing an existing device, remove its faceplate and the device itself from the wall box, and disconnect its wires. Identify the "Line" (black) and "Neutral" (white) wires.
    3. Strip ¾" of insulation from each wire on the controller and connect per the wiring diagram (Line/black to black, Neutral/white to white).
    4. Confirm all wire connectors are firmly attached with no exposed copper.
    5. Place the wires and controller into the wall box with the ON pushbutton at the top, and attach using the supplied screws.
    6. Restore power to the circuit and test for proper local operation before installing the faceplate.
    7. Install a Decora-style faceplate over the controller.

    Input: 120VAC ± 12VAC, 60Hz ± 3Hz.

    Operation (Factory Default Configuration)

Six pushbuttons control six lighting scenes. Pressing any one illuminates its LED and turns off all others — only one is ever lit at a time.

    • OFF: fades dimmers to 0% at default fade rate. Double-tap to snap immediately to 0%. Also dims the last active scene. Press and hold to slowly dim; release to stop.
