User and installation manual for the DoorBell Fon DP28C phone-line door intercom system, including wiring diagrams and troubleshooting.
User and installation manual for the DoorBell Fon™ intercom system (DP28C Controller) — a phone-line-based door intercom that lets you answer your door or gate from any telephone in the house.
The DoorBell Fon works with your incoming regular telephone line (or as a stand-alone unit) and can integrate with multi-line, PBX, or Key phone systems. Optional modules add door-lock release, doorbell chime activation, or full intercom functionality.
Plug the controller cord into a 110V outlet. The Door Station's LED should glow dimly if polarity is correct; if not, double-check the (+) and (−) connections.
| Symptom | Solution |
|---|---|
| Phone rings but can't talk on it | Check LED brightens when Door Station pressed; verify (+)/(−) polarity on the Main Controller; door station mic/speaker may be faulty. |
| Can talk to Door Station but no dial tone | Check/replace fuses (F1 = 0.5A/250V, F2 = 0.25A/250V). A non-standard phone set may need replacement. |
| Caller ID doesn't work with door rings | Expected behavior for door rings. If total REN > 4.6, add a Ring Booster or replace F2 with a 0.25A/0.5A fast-blow fuse. |
| Static when Door Station is pressed | Unplug and reverse the AC plug 180°. For DSL, split data/phone signal before the Main Controller. Ensure an alarm system is installed in series before the Main Controller. |
| Phone won't ring | Swap Tip/Ring at "To Phones" terminal; check REN total; verify wiring between Door Station and Main Controller. |
| Squealing/feedback noise | Remove plastic film from metal faceplates; adjust the R11 potentiometer counter-clockwise; add foam/insulation in the mounting box; avoid corner installs. |
| Incoming calls trigger Door Station instead | Reverse tip/ring wires (usually green/red) at the wall outlet; replace non-standard phone sets. |
