Installation instructions for the HAI Model 95A03-1 Volume-Source Control (VSC) — a 4-button keypad for interfacing with Hi-Fi2 audio zones and sources.

    Overview

The Hi-Fi2 Volume-Source Control is a 4-button keypad used to select and control audio sources for a given Hi-Fi2 audio zone. Any VSC in the system can select and control any audio source. Each VSC also includes an IR receiver, letting you remotely control the Hi-Fi2 system and/or audio sources from any zone in the house.

    Installation

VSC keypads connect directly to the Hi-Fi2 Main Assembly using Cat 5 unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable, terminated at each end with an RJ45 connector wired per standard EIA/TIA 568A. Proper termination is crucial for correct operation.

    • Total Cat 5 distance between the Hi-Fi2 Main Assembly and VSC units must not exceed 2,000 feet.
    • No single run of Cat 5 should exceed 250 feet.
    • Insert one RJ45 end into the audio zone input jack (1–8) under "Volume Source Control / IR In" on the Hi-Fi2 Main Assembly.
    • Insert the other RJ45 end into the jack labeled "Zone Control" on the VSC.

    Changing the VSC Color

The VSC ships with a white faceplate, rubber keypad, and insert; additional colors are available from your HAI distributor. To change the color:

    1. Remove the faceplate.
    2. The insert attaches with two latches on each side. Using a small-blade screwdriver, gently depress each latch on one side while lifting the insert; once released, remove the insert from the other side.
    3. Remove the rubber keypad.
    4. Insert the new rubber keypad, aligning the new insert's latches to the VSC's openings, and snap into place.
    5. Attach the new faceplate.

First-Time Setup — Configuring the Audio Zone

When a VSC is powered on for the first time, you must configure which audio zone it controls:

    1. Press the SRC button on the VSC to enter zone configuration.
    2. Press the + button to increase, or the – button to decrease, the target zone number (range: 1–16).

If space is available, more than one VSC can be assigned to the same audio zone — useful for large rooms with multiple keypads; all keypads assigned to a zone will mimic one another. A maximum of 16 VSC keypads can be installed on a single Hi-Fi2 system.
