    Installation and programming manual for the HAI Model 54A00-1 Access Control Keypad — a weatherproof, vandal-resistant piezoelectric keypad for use with HAI automation controllers.

    Overview

    The Model 54A00-1 is a stainless-steel investment-cast keypad that interfaces with HAI automation controllers. Valid codes can arm/disarm the security system, activate an electric door strike or magnetic lock, control lighting, operate a garage door or security gate, trigger a panic alarm, and more. It mounts to a single-gang switchbox or directly to any indoor/outdoor wall surface. A red LED indicates the system is armed; a green LED indicates disarmed.

    Installation

    Requires one controller serial port and one programmable voltage output. Multiple keypads may be wired in parallel.

    1. Run a 4-conductor cable from the controller to the keypad location. At the keypad, use the supplied B-GEL water-tight splice connectors to join the keypad cable (P/N 54A03-1) wires to the 4-conductor cable per the table below.
    2. Insert the keypad cable into the connector on the back of the keypad.
    3. Mount the 54A00-1 to the wall (supplied wall anchors/screws) or to a single-gang switchbox (supplied machine screws).
    4. Adhere the top overlay (with LED cutouts) and bottom overlay (HAI logo bottom-right) by removing the backing and pressing into place.
    5. At the controller, connect the keypad communications cable (P/N 54A02-1) black/red/green/yellow wires to the corresponding 4-conductor cable wires using the supplied splice connectors.
    6. Connect the 54A02-1 green wire to one of the controller's programmable voltage outputs; configure that output as "Armed."
    7. Connect the 54A02-1 red wire to the controller's Auxiliary 12V output.
    8. Insert the 54A02-1 modular connector into one of the controller's serial ports; configure that port to "Pro-Link."

    Operation

    The piezoelectric buttons work by simply tapping the surface — no physical movement required, so they work equally well with a bare finger or a snow-covered glove. Each key press emits a short tone and flashes the red LED.

    • Enter a code (up to 10 digits), then press # to send it to the controller for verification.
    • Press * to cancel a mis-entered code and start over.
    • A 10-second delay between digits automatically cancels the entry (two short tones + two red LED flashes confirm the cancellation).

    When connected to an HAI security system: red LED = armed (Away/Day/Night/Vacation, etc.); green LED = disarmed (Off mode). On a Lumina or Lumina Pro, or for a custom function, the LED can be controlled programmatically by toggling the corresponding voltage output on/off.

    Programming Examples

    Example 1 — Arm/Disarm Toggle Code

    Using code 1234 to toggle between Away and Off:

    1. Under Setup > Names > Messages, set Message 1 = 1234 (codes can be up to 10 digits).
    2. Under Setup > Installer > Control, configure the output wired to the green LED wire (e.g. Output 1) to "Armed."
    3. Under Setup > Installer > Expansion > Serial Function, set the connected serial port function to "Pro-Link" and rate to "9600" baud.
    4. Create a flag (e.g. Flag 1, "Armed Flag") and these programs:
      WHEN ARM AWAY: Armed Flag ON
      WHEN OFF: Armed Flag OFF
      WHEN RECEIVE 1234 &IF Armed Flag OFF: PROGRAM ARM AWAY
      WHEN RECEIVE 1234 &IF Armed Flag ON: PROGRAM DISARM

    Every "1 2 3 4 #" entry toggles the system between Away and Off, with red/green LEDs toggling accordingly.

    Example 2 — Electric Door Strike Code

    Using code 12341 to release a strike wired to Output 2, with Output 1 (green LED) showing lock state:

    1. Set Message 2 = 12341.
    2. Configure Output 1 ("Red LED") to "General Purpose."
    3. Configure Output 2 ("Door Strike") to "General Purpose."
    4. Set the serial port to Pro-Link / 9600 baud as above.
    5. Create these programs:
      WHEN RECEIVE 12341: Door Strike ON FOR 5 SECONDS
      WHEN Door Strike ON: Red LED ON
      WHEN Door Strike OFF: Red LED OFF

    Every "1 2 3 4 1 #" entry disengages the door strike for 5 seconds; red LED = unlocked, green LED = locked.
