    Installation manual for the GE Z-Wave® Certified In-Wall Smart Switch, Models 14292 / 14293 (ZW4003) — a wireless lighting control switch for single-pole or multi-way installations.

    Getting to Know Your New Z-Wave Device

    • Turn ON/OFF manually or remotely via the Z-Wave controller.
    • Can be included in multiple groups and scenes.
    • Usable in single-pole installation, or with up to two GE Add-on switches (12728/12732) in 3-way or 4-way wiring configurations.
    • Compatible with all incandescent and CFL/LED bulbs.
    • Uses a standard toggle wall plate for single-gang installations (wall plate not included).
    • Z-Wave Certified for simple pairing and integrated home automation.
    • Screw terminal installation — requires wiring connections for Line (Hot), Load, Neutral, and Ground. A traveler wire is required for 3-way or 4-way installations.
    • Advanced features are adjustable only via a Z-Wave controller supporting the Configuration command class — see the full list at www.byjasco.com/z-waveconfig.

    Important! The fixture controlled by this switch must not exceed 960 watts (incandescent). The switch is designed only for use with permanently installed fixtures.

    Installation

    ⚠ Warning — Shock Hazard: Turn OFF power to the branch circuit at the service panel before wiring. All connections must be made with power OFF to avoid personal injury or damage to the switch. If unsure, consult a qualified electrician.

    Single-Pole Wiring

    1. Shut off power to the circuit at the breaker or fuse box; verify power is OFF before continuing.
    2. Remove the wall plate and switch mounting screws, then carefully remove the switch from the box without disconnecting the wires.
    3. Identify the up to five screw terminals: A. LINE (Hot) — black, connected to power; B. NEUTRAL — white; C. LOAD — black, connected to lighting; D. GROUND — green/bare; E. TRAVELER — red/other (3-way installations only).
    4. Match the screw terminals to the wires from the existing switch, labeling wires per the previous connections.
    5. This switch is rated for copper wire only. Use 14 AWG or larger wire, suitable for at least 80°C, for Line, Load, Neutral, Ground, and Traveler connections.
    6. Wire strip length: 1" (25mm) for screw terminals, 5/8" (16mm) for enclosure holes. UL specifies a screw tightening torque of 14 Kgf-cm (12 lbf-in).
    7. Connect the green/bare ground wire to GROUND. Connect the black wire to the fixture to LOAD. Connect the black wire from the service panel (Hot) to LINE. Connect the white wire to NEUTRAL (use the included jumper wire if needed).
    8. The Traveler terminal is only used for 3-way/4-way wiring — leave it insulated in a 2-way (single switch, single load) installation.
    9. Insert the switch into the box carefully, avoiding pinched or crushed wires, then secure with the supplied screws and mount the wallplate.
    10. Reapply power at the fuse box/breaker and test the system.

    Multi-Switch (3-Way / 4-Way) Wiring

    For 3-way installations, refer to the GE Add-on Switch (12728/12732) manual. A GE Add-on switch is required for multi-switch 3-way or 4-way installations — connecting the traveler terminal to a standard non-GE switch will cause damage or improper function. Do not connect the traveler wire or apply power until GE Add-on switches are correctly installed.

    Basic Operation

    The connected light can be turned ON/OFF in two ways: (1) manually from the front panel toggle, or (2) remotely with a Z-Wave controller.

    Manual Control

    • Press and release up on the toggle to turn the fixture ON.
    • Press and release down on the toggle to turn the fixture OFF.

    Z-Wave Network Operations

    Adding to a Z-Wave Network

    1. Follow your Z-Wave certified controller's instructions to add a device to the network.
    2. Once the controller is ready, press up and release the toggle to add the switch to the network.

    Removing / Resetting the Device

    1. Follow your controller's instructions to remove a device from the network, then press up and release the toggle to complete removal.
    2. Factory reset: quickly press the ON (up) button three times, then immediately press the OFF (down) button three times. Use only if the network's primary controller is missing or inoperable.

    Once added to a network, you have complete control to turn the fixture ON/OFF according to groups, scenes, schedules, and interactive automations programmed by your controller. If your controller features Remote Access, you can control the fixture from mobile devices too.

    Z-Wave Interoperability

    This product can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers and/or applications. All non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor, increasing network reliability.

    This device supports the Association Command Class (3 groups):

    • Group 1 — Lifeline, Binary Switch Report
    • Group 2 — Basic Set, controlled by pressing the On or Off button with the local load
    • Group 3 — Basic Set, controlled by double-pressing the On or Off button

    Each Association Group supports up to 5 total nodes.

    Multiple Gang Boxes

    When installing in single, dual, or triple gang boxes, it may be necessary to break off one or both scored tabs on the front yoke — this does not affect the switch's electrical rating.
