Manual for the GE Z-Wave 45605 Wireless Controlled Duplex Receptacle (SmartHome™) — a dual-outlet in-wall receptacle with one always-on outlet and one Z-Wave controlled outlet for wireless lighting/appliance control.
Z-Wave technology automates lighting/home control and provides easy remote operation of Z-Wave compatible devices. This duplex receptacle is one component of a Z-Wave control system, designed to work with all other Z-Wave compatible devices in a home control network. It also acts as a wireless repeater, extending the range of your wireless controller for commands intended for other devices on the network.
Caution: This device must be installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local regulations in the US, or the Canadian Electrical Code and local regulations in Canada. If you're not confident performing the installation, consult a qualified electrician.
Load limit: the device connected to the Z-Wave controlled outlet must not exceed 600W (incandescent), 15A/1800W (resistive), or ½ HP (motor). Maximum combined load for both outlets is 1800W (15A) resistive. Do not attempt to repair internal parts of this unit.
Exercise extreme caution when using Z-Wave devices to control appliances, since the controlling device may be operated from a different room than the appliance, and accidental activation is possible if the wrong remote button is pressed. Z-Wave devices can also turn on automatically due to scheduled events, which — depending on the appliance type — could create a hazardous situation. Recommendations:
Not for use with medical or life support equipment. Z-Wave enabled devices should never be used to supply power to, or control the on/off status of, medical or life support equipment.
This device complies with the Z-Wave standard of 65 feet (20m) open-air, direct antenna-to-antenna transmission. Actual home performance depends on the number of walls between the controller and target device, construction type, and the number of Z-Wave devices in the network. Each Z-Wave device acts as a signal repeater, and multiple devices create more possible transmission paths, helping eliminate RF "dead zones."

Each wall/obstacle reduces max range ~25-30%. Brick/tile/concrete blocks more signal than wood-frame/drywall. Metal junction boxes cause ~20% additional signal loss. Z-Wave coexists with 802.11 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other 2.4/5.8GHz devices; some 900MHz baby monitors, wireless video devices, or older cordless phones may interfere — try switching those devices' A/B channel if available.
This receptacle can be used in new installations or to replace an existing wall receptacle. A wall plate is not included — reuse your existing wall plate if replacing a standard decorative duplex receptacle, or use a medium decorative wall plate (available at most hardware/home stores) for new installations.
Wire connections: Green or bare (ground), Black (energized/hot), White (neutral).
Always follow recommendations on insulation strip length and wire combinations. The included wire connectors are designed for copper wire only — consult a qualified electrician if you have aluminum wiring.

The connected light can be turned ON in two ways: (1) with a remote control, or (2) manually using the pushbutton on the Z-Wave receptacle. GE Z-Wave remotes control individual devices, groups, and scenes — other Z-Wave certified remotes may offer less configuration flexibility.
Note: after a power failure, the 45605 receptacle returns to its last used on/off state.
LED Indicator: The LED remains lit when the Z-Wave outlet is OFF (factory default) — this can be changed via node configuration if your controller supports it (see Advanced Operation).
These parameters require an advanced controller (e.g. the 45601 Advanced remote) — basic remotes cannot change these settings.
Depending on your primary controller, the receptacle can be configured to respond to ALL ON / ALL OFF commands in up to four ways: respond to both (default), respond to neither, respond to ALL OFF only, or respond to ALL ON only.
By default, the LED turns ON when the connected outlet is OFF. To make the LED turn ON when the outlet is ON instead, change parameter 3 to "1" (parameter #3, length 1 byte, valid values 0 or 1, default 0).
All network settings and configuration parameters reset to factory defaults when the device is deleted from the network via your primary controller.
Provided by an internal, non-user-serviceable fuse. Check your home's circuit breakers before concluding the product needs replacement.
A Z-Wave network can integrate devices of various classes from different manufacturers, but your controller must include the appropriate device classification to control non-lighting devices. For example, the basic GE 45600 remote only controls lighting-class Z-Wave devices, while the GE 45601 Deluxe remote (with LCD) can also control other classes such as thermostats.
