Manual for the GE Z-Wave 45604 On/Off Outdoor Module — a weather-resistant wireless lighting/appliance control module with a plug-in AC outlet, manual push-button control, and Z-Wave home network integration.

Introduction

Z-Wave technology automates lighting/home control and allows remote operation of Z-Wave enabled devices. This module is one component of a Z-Wave control system and works with all other Z-Wave enabled devices.

Load limit: the device plugged into the Z-Wave controlled outlet must not exceed 600W (incandescent), 15A/1800W (resistive), or ½ HP (motor). There are no user-serviceable parts inside.

This product has a grounding-type plug with a third (grounding) pin that only fits a grounding-type outlet. Do not modify the plug — if it doesn't fit your outlet, have a qualified electrician install the correct outlet.

Controlling Appliances — Safety Guidance

Exercise extreme caution using Z-Wave devices to control appliances, since the controlling remote may be in a different room and unintentional activation or timed-event programming could create a hazardous condition. Recommendations:

• Assign Z-Wave controlled appliances to device numbers 10-18 on the GE remote — this requires pressing "Shift" first, reducing accidental activation.
• Remove appliance-controlling Z-Wave devices from the "All" control setting.
• Do not include appliance-controlling Z-Wave devices in Groups or Scenes.
• Do not use Z-Wave devices to control electric heaters or other appliances where unattended/unintentional/automatic power-on could be hazardous.
• Double-check programs for accuracy before use.

Not for use with medical or life support equipment. Z-Wave enabled devices should never supply power to, or control the on/off status of, medical or life support equipment.

Wireless Range

This device complies with the Z-Wave standard of 65 feet open-air, line-of-sight transmission. Actual home performance depends on walls, construction type, and the number of Z-Wave devices in the network — every Z-Wave device also acts as a signal repeater, helping eliminate RF dead-spots.

Each wall/obstacle reduces max range ~25-30%. Brick/tile/concrete block more signal than wood-frame/drywall. Metal junction boxes cause ~20% additional signal loss. Z-Wave coexists with 802.11 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 2.4/5.8GHz devices; some 900MHz baby cams, wireless video, or older cordless phones may interfere — try switching those devices' A/B channel if available.

Installation

• Suitable for outdoor use in damp locations. Do not expose to rain or immerse in water.
• Install at least 3 feet above ground level with the receptacle pointed down.
• When used outdoors, plug into a GFCI receptacle with an outdoor-rated receptacle cover.
• Mounting: a mounting tab with a screw key-hole is at the top of the unit. Install the included screw in the desired location, leaving ~3/16" exposed. Align the mounting tab with the screw head, slide over, and let the unit drop down to lock in place.

Remote Control

GE Z-Wave remotes control individual devices, groups, and scenes. Other Z-Wave certified remotes may offer less flexibility. Refer to your specific remote's instructions for details.

Manual Control (Pushbutton)

1. Press the button to manually toggle the connected equipment ON or OFF.
2. Include or exclude the module from the Z-Wave network via your primary controller: when prompted by the controller's network setup function, tap the button. The controller should confirm success; repeat if it indicates failure. The same procedure adds the module to groups/scenes.

Note: after a power failure, the module returns to its last used ON/OFF state.

Advanced Operation

These parameters require an advanced controller (e.g. the 45601 Advanced remote) — basic remotes cannot change these settings.

All On / All Off

Depending on your primary controller, the module can respond to ALL ON / ALL OFF commands in up to four ways:

• Respond to both ALL ON and ALL OFF (default).
• Respond to neither.
• Respond to ALL OFF only.
• Respond to ALL ON only.

Restoring Factory Defaults

All network settings and configuration parameters reset to factory defaults when the device is deleted from the network via your primary controller.

Over-Current Protection

Provided by an internal, non-user-serviceable fuse. Check your home's circuit breakers before concluding the product needs replacement.

Interoperability with Z-Wave Devices

Z-Wave networks integrate devices of various classes from different manufacturers, but your controller must support the appropriate device classification to control non-lighting devices. For example, the basic 45600 remote only controls lighting-class devices, while the 45601 Advanced remote (with LCD) can also control other classes like thermostats.
