GE Security 60-924-3-XT — Simon XT Talking Touchpad Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for the GE Simon XT Talking Touchpad, model 60-924-3-XT — a wall-mounted, two-way talking keypad/touchpad accessory for the GE Simon XT security system.

Overview

The 60-924-3-XT combines a conventional learn-mode touchpad with an RF receiver, speech chip, and voice amplification circuit for the Simon XT panel. It's battery-powered (alkaline) and is programmed into the panel as a sensor.

What It Does

• Arm the system (doors, windows, and motion sensors)
• Arm the system with no entry delay
• Disarm the system
• Activate a panic alarm to the central monitoring station (nonmedical emergency)
• Check system status
• Turn system-controlled lights on or off (all or individual)
• Hear voice feedback from the Simon XT control panel

The touchpad has no tamper detection; a low battery condition is automatically detected and communicated to the control panel.

Installation Guidelines

• Program (learn) the touchpad into the control panel as a sensor
• Use sensor groups 01, 03, 06, or 07 for nonsupervised use
• Each programmed touchpad uses one of the 40 available sensor numbers/zones on the Simon XT panel
• Mount greater than 3 ft. (1.0 m) from the Simon XT panel; avoid mounting directly behind the panel on the opposite side of the wall
• Always run a sensor test before permanently attaching the touchpad to the wall

Programming (Learning) the Touchpad into the Panel

1. Press the down arrow button on the panel and scroll to System programming
2. Press Enter — panel displays "Enter code"
3. Enter the installer access code and press Enter
4. Scroll to Sensors and press Enter
5. Panel displays "Learn sensor" — press Enter
6. Panel blinks "Trip sensor nn" (next available zone number, can be changed)
7. Press the Lights Off button on the touchpad six times in rapid succession — on the sixth press the touchpad beeps longer. Panel should display "SN ## Grp 10 Front Door" and the touchpad should say "okay"
8. Enter a group number for a nonsupervised group and press Enter
9. Select a name for the touchpad (e.g. "Touchpad" or "Bedroom Touchpad") and press Enter
10. Press the Status button on the panel repeatedly to exit system programming
11. Press the Status button on the touchpad — it should announce the panel's arming level and status (e.g. "Disarmed system okay")

Sensor Test

The touchpad is sensitive to its orientation relative to the control panel — always test before mounting.

1. Make sure the panel is disarmed
2. Press down arrow, scroll to System programming, press Enter
3. Enter the installer code, press Enter
4. Panel displays "Sensor test" — press Enter to start
5. Panel prompts you to trip each sensor — trip the touchpad by pressing and holding both emergency buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds

To verify communication after installation, close the panel cover to run mode, then press the System Status button on the touchpad — it should announce the correct system status.

If the Sensor Test Fails

• Use a GE Security RF sniffer (60-401) to check transmission. Constant beeps = faulty/runaway touchpad (replace). Two or three beeps = functioning but may need relocation.
• To relocate: test at the original position, then progressively farther away until an acceptable location is found, then remount.
• To replace: test a known-good touchpad at the same location. If it works, the original unit is defective — contact GE Security for repair/replacement.

Mounting

1. Open the touchpad door
2. Gently pull down on the bottom tab to separate the touchpad body from the mounting plate
3. Hold the mounting plate against the wall and attach with the two provided screws
4. Reattach the touchpad to the mounting plate
5. Run a sensor test again after mounting

Operation Buttons

• Numeric buttons (0-9): Enter access codes or turn individual lights on/off
• Disarm: Disarms to level 0 (all sensors except smoke disarmed) or level 1 (doors, windows, motion disarmed) — requires an access code
• Arm doors and windows: Arms to level 2
• Arm motion sensors: Arms to level 3 (or level 4 if doors/windows was also pressed — full arm)
• Lights on/off: Press twice for all lights, or once + numeric buttons for specific lights
• Emergency buttons: Press and hold both, or press both twice quickly, to trigger an alarm report per the programmed sensor group (00-07)

Battery Replacement

When batteries are low, the touchpad announces "touchpad low battery" and the panel announces "(sensor name) low battery." Replace all three batteries with AAA alkaline batteries — avoid pressing buttons while replacing. Run a sensor test afterward to realign the touchpad to the panel.
