SECO-LARM Enforcer Electric Deadbolt — Installation Manual

Overview

SECO-LARM Electric Deadbolts add concealed deadbolt security to hollow metal door frames (door itself may be wood or metal). This covers the SD-997A-DQ, SD-997BQ, and SD-997B-GBQ models — electrically operated deadbolts with a stainless steel 5/8" diameter, 5/8" throw bolt, magnetic door position sensing, and adjustable lock delay timer.

Model Comparison

SD-997A-DQ: Fail-secure (locks if power is lost), 12VDC. SD-997BQ: Fail-safe (unlocks if power is lost), 12VDC. SD-997B-GBQ: Fail-safe, 12/24VDC.

Mounting Location

Can be mounted opposite the door hinges, on the header, or on top of the door away from the hinges. Mounting on the bottom of the door is not recommended due to possible dirt/dust buildup. Important: For vertical mounting of the SD-997B series only, wires must exit the top of the unit.

Optional Mounting Brackets (SD-997B Series)

• Surface-Mount Bracket (SD-997SMB-AQ): mounts the deadbolt and strike plate on the door jamb instead of in the door frame.
• "U" Bracket (SD-997UB-AQ): mounts the deadbolt and strike plate on glass doors.

Installation

1. Determine mounting location.
2. Tape templates to the door frame and door. Align so the deadbolt of the lock body template is centered on the deadbolt hole of the strike plate template; leave enough room at the ends for mounting tabs.
3. Door frame cut: cut out the space for the lock body, test the fit (should be snug), and drill two 5mm screw holes as shown on the template.
4. Door cut and mount:
   • Wood doors: chisel out a 3mm (1/8") deep space; drill the magnet hole 12mm (1/2") wide by 6mm (1/4") deep; mount the strike plate with four wood screws (magnet fits the magnet hole); drill the deadbolt hole to a depth of 16mm (5/8").
   • Hollow metal doors: cut out the space for the strike plate; drill two screw holes for each of the two mounting tabs; fix the mounting tabs inside the hollow metal door; fix the strike plate to the mounting tabs with screws.
5. Door jamb cut and mount: cut out the space for the face of the lock body; drill one 5mm hole for each mounting tab; fix the mounting tabs inside the door jamb with screws.
   • SD-997A-DQ only: insert the lock/unlock cylinder.
   • Connect and insulate wires: Red = power input (+); Brown = power input (−); Orange = control wire (ground to release bolt); Green = door monitor COM; Yellow = door monitor N.C. (active when door closed); Blue = door monitor N.O. (active when door open). Important: correct polarity of red/brown is critical — incorrect polarity will burn out the solenoid.
   • Optionally connect to an alarm control panel or warning device to show door open/closed status.
   • Important: push all wires into the door frame; if space is a problem, cut away part of the dust catcher inside the frame, or carefully chip away drywall without damaging the wall.
   • Set the door lock delay timer: the time it takes the deadbolt to automatically lock after the door closes.
6. For SD-997A-DQ only — Manual Lock/Unlock Cylinder: because SD-997A-DQ is fail-secure, it locks if power is cut. A separate manual lock/unlock cylinder is provided:
   1. Insert the cylinder and secure it to the lock body with the provided long screw. Turning the key or manual knob manually unlocks the SD-997A-DQ.
   2. Use the two separate templates included for drilling holes in the door frame for the key and manual knob.
   3. A separate 3-pin connector for the SD-997A-DQ can be connected to an alarm panel or annunciator to alert when the door is locked or unlocked.

Note (SD-997A-DQ & SD-997B-GBQ only): the deadbolt automatically relocks 4 seconds after an optional external push button (egress button) is pressed, if the door was not opened. The lock body's sensor can detect if the strike plate is in close proximity (door closed); if the strike plate is misaligned, the lock body may attempt to relock multiple times and stop to prevent solenoid burnout if it fails. Important: the lock body and strike plate must be properly aligned and adjacent for correct function.

Pull the vinyl covering off the faceplate and place the faceplate over the face of the lock body, then use screws to fix the faceplate and lock body to the mounting tabs.

Important: do not cut wires before the plug, or the warranty will be voided.

Warranty

SECO-LARM products are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one (1) year from the date of sale to the original consumer customer, limited to repair or replacement of any defective part returned transportation prepaid to SECO-LARM. Warranty is void if damage is caused by acts of God, misuse/abuse, neglect, unauthorized repair or alteration, improper/abnormal usage, or faulty installation.
