Complete user manual for the FortrezZ FTS05x Wireless Flood and Temperature Sensor, a Z-Wave Plus Security-enabled leak/temperature detector.
The FortrezZ FTS05x is a Z-Wave Plus Security-enabled Wireless Flood and Temperature Sensor. It detects water leaks and measures temperature, sending alerts on the Z-Wave network when a leak or a high/low temperature condition occurs. It comes in four part-number variants: FTS05LB-yy / FTS05LW-yy (battery-only, black/white case) and FTS05PLB-yy / FTS05PLW-yy (battery/AC version with a water/temperature probe, black/white case).
| Power | Two AA alkaline batteries (plus AC adapter on FTS05P version) |
| Battery Life | Est. 1–2 years, depending on battery quality/capacity, alarms, and default network settings |
| Frequency Range | 908.4 MHz (US); 868.4 MHz (EU) |
| Distance Range | Max 100 ft line of sight, unobstructed |
| Enclosure Size (L x W x D) | 3" (76mm) x 2.1" (53mm) x 1.1" (30mm) |
| Weight | 0.25 lb (110g) |
| Operating Temperature | -10°C (14°F) to +70°C (158°F) |
Add (Inclusion): Set the controller into Add/Inclusion mode, then briefly press the switch once. The controller will confirm the unit was added, and the LED will blink.
Remove (Exclusion): Set the controller into Remove/Exclusion mode, then press and hold the switch for approx. 2 seconds and release. The controller confirms removal and the LED blinks.
Associations: Once networked, a controller can associate the FTS05x with other devices (a light, a remote audible alarm, etc.). The FTS05x supports eight association groups with a maximum of 2 devices per group.
Wakeup Notification: The FTS05x wakes and sends a status notification every 4 hours by default; a brief switch press while networked also triggers a wake-up notification.
| Blinks | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 1 (fast) | Switch pressed; continually on while pressed |
| 2 (fast) | In-Network after battery replacement, add/inclusion, or button held while networked |
| 4 (fast) | Out of Network after battery replacement, remove/exclusion, or incomplete Add |
| 5 (fast) | Low Battery (repeats approx. every 40 seconds) |
| 1 (slow) | Firmware Update (OTA) mode started, continuous while waiting |
| 2 (slow) | Water Alarm |
| 3 (slow) | Heat Alarm (high or low setpoint triggered) |
| 4 (slow) | Active alarm cleared |
The FTS05 is suitable for normally dry, interior locations only. The FTS05P allows the external probe to be submerged. Avoid metal frames or enclosures that could affect RF range, and place the unit so any leaks will not drip directly on it.
Recommended uses: Under sink, next to sump pumps, water heaters, laundry room, bathroom floor, storage area, garage, utility sink, vacation/recreation homes, boats. The FTS05P is also suited to applications needing a maintained water level.
If water is detected or missing (FTS05P only), or an over/under-temperature condition occurs, the unit sends alert message(s) to the Z-Wave network. If associations are configured, Basic Set messages are sent as described under Associations. If Water/Heat Alarms are configured, the FTS05x sends alert messages to the Lifeline group. Drying (or submerging, on FTS05P) the sensor contacts clears the Water Alarm; an alarm-clear message is likewise sent when temperature returns to normal.
Moisten a paper towel and place it over both small metal pads (FTS05) or both metal prongs (FTS05P probe) until you see two quick LED blinks (may take up to 4–5 seconds). Remove the towel and clean the pads — the LED should blink four times. If the LED fails to blink, check the battery, moisture level, or sensor condition.
High/low temperature setpoints can be configured (low must be at least 2°C below high; low cannot be set below -10°C, high cannot exceed 70°C). The FTS05P can be configured for water-detect or water-missing mode. The Basic Set state for association group 2 can be configured to send ON (default) or OFF on a water alarm.
| Group | Max/Group | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 1 (Lifeline) | 2 | Device reset, battery report, water/heat/power notifications — auto-configured by Z-Wave Plus controllers |
| 2 | 2 | Basic Set ON/OFF to indicate active Water Alarm |
| 3 | 2 | Basic Set to indicate Temperature High condition |
| 4 | 2 | Basic Set to indicate Temperature Low condition |
| 5 | 2 | Temperature report on change (with hysteresis filtering) |
| 6 / 7 / 8 | 2 | Temperature report every 5 / 20 / 60 minutes respectively |
Caution: More frequent temperature reporting decreases battery life — select only one temperature-report group per device.
The FTS05x sends a "Replace Battery Soon" alert at low battery, escalating to "Replace Battery Now" as the battery depletes further, along with periodic LED blinking. After a water leak, ensure there is no residual moisture around the battery. Do not install damaged or unsealed batteries. Use silicone caulk sealant around the screws after replacing batteries to maintain the water seal.
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules (Contains Transmitter Module FCC ID: WRD-FM5202) and Industry Canada license-exempt RSS standards (Contains IC: 8156A-FM5202). It has also been tested for use in European countries under EN 300 220 (2012-05) and ETSI EN 301 489-1 (2011-09), and complies with the WEEE Directive.
