  • Foard Systems FSD UPB Compact Controller — Spec Sheet

    September 08, 2026 2 min read

Specification sheet for the Foard Systems Design FSD UPB Compact Controller, a low-cost single-protocol UPB home automation controller.

    Full text manual (for reference)

    Overview

The Foard Systems Design FSD UPB Compact Controller is a highly capable, low-cost single-protocol UPB home automation controller. It supports UPB devices, including UPB link commands for groups and scenes, and can operate stand-alone after initial configuration. Input and output commands to/from UPB devices can be mapped to one another — for example, a UPB switch can be mapped to control other UPB devices at different addresses, and can also be configured to work with timer and macro devices.

    Features

    • Supports up to 64 UPB devices (exact number depends on device type configured)
    • Flexible macro programming, interval timer, and time-of-day timer support
    • Configured via provided software on Windows XP or Windows 2000 (the computer does not need to stay connected during normal operation)
    • If the computer remains connected, the software supports run-time monitoring/control using a graphical floor-plan-oriented interface
    • Includes the FSD Automator software suite with a built-in graphical editor for creating layout graphics
    • Data logging software logs device state, run-time UPB commands, and timer/macro states to disk
    • Remote monitoring, control, and configuration supported natively over LAN, wireless LAN, or the Internet
    • Third-party interfacing supported via an easy-to-use application interface, and via a documented packet-based monitoring/control interface (serial port USB driver, and TCP/IP via an included PC-hosted TCP/IP-to-serial packet router)
    • The packet-based interface is consistent across HA protocols — the same approach controls X10, UPB, and hardwired devices via other Foard Systems Design controller and bridge products
