    Installation guide for the Ecolink TILT-ZWAVE5 — a Z-Wave Plus accelerometer-based garage door tilt sensor that remotely monitors garage doors, hatches, roll-up doors, or any tilting surface. Verify your garage door is closed remotely and automate lights when you arrive home, all from your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

    Installation

    1. Identify the location for the sensor — it's critical that it sits on the top section of a multi-panel garage door, since that's the first section to tilt when opening and the last to reach vertical when closing.
    2. Mount the bracket on a clean, dry surface with the sensor screw facing the floor. Use screws only on doors thicker than the screw length; use the adhesive tape for thinner doors.
    3. Adhesive tape mounting: Ensure the surface is clean and dry, and avoid extreme temperature/humidity conditions during installation for the best bond. Peel and press the tape to the door, then peel the other side and press the bracket firmly onto it.
    4. Screw mounting: Use the bracket as a template to mark screw hole locations, drill small pilot holes, and fasten with a screwdriver.
    5. Install the CR123A battery.
    6. Before securing the sensor to the bracket, complete the network inclusion steps below to verify communication with your Z-Wave controller.
    7. After successful inclusion, secure the sensor onto the mounting bracket with the sensor screw.
    8. Test by opening and closing the garage door and observing the open/close status update.

    Network Inclusion

    1. Verify your Z-Wave Plus controller is compatible with the Tilt Sensor.
    2. Put your controller into add (inclusion) mode.
    3. Insert the battery and press the Learn button on the sensor.
    4. The LED on the front turns off when inclusion succeeds.

    Network Exclusion

    1. Put your Z-Wave Plus controller into exclusion mode.
    2. Press the inclusion/exclusion button on the sensor.
    3. The LED will blink steadily when exclusion succeeds.

    Controller inclusion/exclusion mode must be activated before starting sensor inclusion/exclusion. The device can only be included in one controller network at a time and must be excluded before joining another.

    LED Status

    • LED Blinking: Device in learn mode
    • LED On: Device OTA (over-the-air) update
    • LED Blink: Tilt detected/restored, or tamper detected/restored

    Battery: The sensor alerts when batteries get low and continues reporting sensor state until fully depleted.

    Factory Default: Only use this when the primary controller is missing or inoperable — press and hold the factory reset button for 5 seconds.

    Z-Wave Plus Technical Details

    • Basic Command Class supported for backward compatibility: Basic Report 0xFF = door open, 0x00 = door closed.
    • Supports Network Wide Inclusion — the device can be included over the mesh network without being near the main controller (auto-activates after a failed direct inclusion attempt).
    • Two association groups of 1 node each. Group 1 (lifeline) sends Basic Reports (0x00 closed / 0xFF open) to all nodes.
    • Configuration parameters include number of retry attempts (default 3), retry interval (default 500ms), and adjustable tilt angle thresholds for "closed" (10°/30°/50°) and "open" (30°/50°/70°) states.
    • Uses S2 elliptic-key encryption for secure command classes; the DSK code is on the product packaging insert and QR code on the sensor back. Requires a Security Enabled Z-Wave Controller to fully utilize.
