Installation instructions and user manual for the Ecolink GDZW7-ECO Z-Wave Long Range Garage Door Controller — adds remote open/close control and status monitoring to almost any garage door opener, using Z-Wave Long Range plus classic Z-Wave for extended range, paired with an included wireless tilt sensor.

Installation Outline

1. Add the Garage Door Controller to a Z-Wave network hub.
2. Mount and activate the tilt sensor.
3. Mount and connect the Garage Door Controller.
4. Test system operation.

Caution: Always temporarily disconnect power from the garage door opener when working near moving parts.

Step 1 — Adding to a Z-Wave Network

Power up the GDZW7-ECO with the included adapter — the status LED blinks green twice per second, indicating it's actively seeking inclusion. It must not already be added to another network.

• SmartStart: With the device blinking green (ready), it's added automatically over a few minutes (blinks green rapidly while adding); confirms with a beep and solid green LED.
• Classic / Network-Wide Inclusion: Put your Z-Wave controller into inclusion mode, then press the "Hub" button on the device. Enter the DSK if asked. Success = beep + solid green LED.
• If the device beeps twice and shows yellow for 3 seconds, it was added unsecured and will auto factory-reset (may leave a ghost node — remove it via your controller). Solid red for 3 seconds = not added.

Step 2 — Mount the Tilt Sensor

Activate the sensor by pulling the battery tab (or reinstalling the battery). Mount it on the top section of a multi-panel garage door — the first to tilt on opening, last to reach vertical on closing — with the arrow on the side pointing UP. Use screws only for doors thicker than the screws, otherwise use the adhesive tape.

Step 3 — Mount the GDZW7-ECO

• Hard Mount (preferred): Use the mounting bracket with hex bolts/washers/nuts on the opener's mounting hardware, aligned to face the hub/panel it's paired with, then slide the controller onto the bracket until it snaps in place.
• Ceiling Mount (Option 2): Mount within 6 inches of where the opener attaches to the ceiling, using the bracket and 4 screws/washers/anchors.
• Direct Mount (Option 3): Use the large foam tape strip on a clean, flat, dry area of the opener body; press firmly for 30 seconds. Note: this method does not meet the UL 325 standard.

Connecting Power & the Opener Motor

Remove the screw from the 120VAC outlet near the opener and use it to secure the power adapter, then plug the DC connector into the GDZW7-ECO (status LED = solid green if already on the network).

Wireless (Chamberlain Security+ 2.0 / Security+ openers):

1. Plug the opener's power cord back in.
2. Press and hold the HUB button 2 seconds to switch between Security+ 2.0 and Security+ modes (beep/blink pattern indicates mode).
3. Press the pairing button on the opener motor and check for its pairing LED.
4. Press and hold the TILT button on the GDZW7-ECO for 2 seconds to transmit like a remote.
5. Check the opener's status LED exits pairing mode; repeat as needed to confirm.

Wired (all other openers): Connect the GDZW7-ECO's relay switch wires to the opener's pushbutton wall console terminals (often labeled "PUSHBUTTON", "WC", "PWC", or "PB") without disconnecting any existing wires, then plug the opener back in.

Test System Operation

1. Use the opener's manual wall button to open, then close, the door (calibrates the sensors).
2. Use your Z-Wave controller to OPEN the door.
3. Use your Z-Wave controller to CLOSE the door — the warning light will flash and the beeper sound repeatedly while it closes.

Advanced Installation Options

• Network removal: Put the controller in exclusion mode, then press the Hub button — device blinks red and beeps 3 times to confirm.
• Factory reset (only when the primary controller is missing/inoperable): insert a paperclip into the reset hole until it depresses (short beep), hold 10 seconds — LED blinks red during reset, then turns green when complete.
• Adding a different tilt sensor: Press the "Tilt" button (short beep, LED blinks red), then remove the pull-tab/reinsert the battery on the new sensor — success = white blink + beep.
• Adjust tilt sensor angle: Manually bend the ball-in-can up/down for ±10° adjustability.
• Replace tilt sensor battery: Remove the bottom screw, push outward to open the case, replace with a fresh CR123A.
• Adding an external contact switch/sensor: Wire it to the blue terminal block, press the tilt button, then trigger the contact open — success shows a white blink + beep. Once added, the external contact replaces the tilt sensor.
