DynaQuip ZWCFS1 — Z-Wave Wireless Water & Freeze Alarm Instruction Manual

Instruction manual for the DynaQuip ZWCFS1 — a Z-Wave enabled Wireless Water & Freeze Alarm that detects leaks and freezing conditions from fixtures, water heaters, and dispensers, and alerts you via your Z-Wave network (or a built-in audible alarm even without a network). Works best paired with a WaterCop Z-Wave automatic shut-off valve (sold separately).

Specifications

Testing the ZWCFS1

Moisten a paper towel and place it over both small metal pads on the back of the sensor until you hear the audible alarm (may take 4–5 seconds). If no alarm sounds, check for an old/dead/incorrectly installed battery, insufficient moisture, or a damaged sensor. After testing, remove the moist towel, dry the metal pads, and hold the button for 2 seconds to clear the alarm.

Using in a Z-Wave Network

• Inclusion: Put the controller in inclusion mode, then press and hold the sensor's button for ~2 seconds until the controller confirms inclusion (a beep also sounds).
• Exclusion: Put the controller in exclusion mode, then press and hold the button for ~2 seconds until removal is confirmed.
• Awake mode: Press and hold the button for 2+ seconds to keep the unit awake and listening for ~30 seconds.
• Association: Supports two association groups (up to 5 devices each) — Group 1 for water alarm Basic Set commands, Group 2 for freeze alarm. Refer to your controller's docs for setting up associations to lights or remote audible alarms.

During an Alarm

If water is detected, the unit sounds an 82 dB audible alarm and sends an alert to the Z-Wave network (if included). Hold the button 2 seconds to clear a water alarm. Freezing conditions trigger a silent network alert only (no audible alarm). Depending on your gateway controller, you may be able to receive an email/text alert and check sensor status remotely.

Choosing a Mounting Location

Suitable for dry, interior locations only. Avoid metal frames/enclosures (reduces RF range) and areas with rapid temperature swings. Position the unit so leaks won't drip directly onto it. Recommended locations: under sinks, near sump pumps, water heaters, laundry rooms, bathroom floors, storage areas, garages, utility sinks, and vacation/recreation homes or boats.

Low Battery

The unit broadcasts a low-battery alert on the Z-Wave network and periodically chirps audibly. Replace the battery every time after an actual water leak is detected (the audible alarm draws significant current). Ensure no moisture remains in the unit before replacing the battery, and use silicone caulk around the screws after reassembly to maintain the water seal. Do not install batteries that appear damaged or unsealed.

Warranty

DynaQuip Controls warrants the WaterCop electric valve actuator, sensor, and system control components against defects for 2 years from original shipment; the brass ball valve mechanical component is warranted for the life of the component.
