DESA SL-6133 — Wireless Add-On Switch Installation Manual

Installation manual for the DESA Specialty Products Wireless Add-On Switch, Model SL-6133 — a wireless remote switch for controlling an existing light fixture from a second location, without new wiring.

What's Included

• 1 transmitter wall switch unit
• 1 receiver wall switch unit
• 2 wire connectors
• 2 #8 x 2" wood screws

You'll also need a 9-volt alkaline battery (not included) for the transmitter — typically lasts about one year in normal use.

Important Notes

• Multiple channels (A through E) let you operate several systems in different locations without interference — if you buy more than one system, select different channels for each.
• If replacing the switch plate for décor reasons, avoid metal plates — they reduce operating range.
• Use only as a second switch to remotely control a light. Do not install if more than one switch already exists on that circuit.

Choosing a Location

• Never install two receiver units within 3 feet (0.9m) of each other, or range will be reduced.
• Total lighting load must not exceed 500 watts (incandescent only).
• The receiver must be within range of the transmitter (up to 100 feet / 30m) in the same room or hallway.
• Keep large metal objects out of the signal path between transmitter and receiver.

Installation

1. Select a wall switch location that controls a light or overhead incandescent fixture, keeping the guidelines above in mind.
2. Turn off power to the light switch circuit at the breaker or fuse box.
3. Remove the existing switch plate and switch, and disconnect its two wires (save the plate and screws for reuse). If more than two wires are attached, consult an electrician — some local codes may require licensed installation.
4. Connect one wire from the receiver to one wire removed from the old switch, securing with a supplied wire connector. Repeat for the second wire.
5. Double-check that all wire connections are secure with no bare wire exposed.
6. Position the receiver with the master switch to the right, mount it to the wall box using the screws removed earlier, and tuck excess wiring into the box (bending as needed to fit).
7. Restore power to the circuit at the breaker or fuse box.
8. Slide the receiver's master switch (beside the toggle switch) to ON (up) — the light may turn on. If controlling a lamp, make sure it's plugged into the switched outlet and turned on itself.
9. Slide the master switch to OFF (down) and toggle the switch lever up/down — the light should stay off.
10. Slide the master switch back to ON (up) and toggle the switch lever — the light should now switch on and off.
11. Install the 9-volt battery in the transmitter: remove the transmitter's switch cover (save the two screws), snap the battery clips onto the terminals, and set the battery in its compartment. Important: wait at least 1 second between on/off presses to allow each transmission to complete.
12. Verify operation: hold the transmitter at the desired mounting location and switch it on — the light should turn on immediately. Test on/off a few times. If it works intermittently or not at all, reposition the transmitter and retry, or proceed to the antenna step below.
13. If range is insufficient: unwind the receiver's antenna from its track, route it through the notch, and let it hang fully extended inside the wall to boost range. Reposition the transmitter as needed until it reliably controls the light.
14. Mount the transmitter at its final location using the two provided wood screws (or appropriate hardware for your surface).
15. Mount the transmitter's switch plate over the transmitter with its included screws.
16. Mount the original switch plate over the receiver using the screws removed earlier. Installation complete.

Five-Year Limited Warranty

For 5 years from date of purchase, any malfunction caused by factory-defective parts or workmanship will be corrected at no charge. Light bulbs and batteries are not covered. Repair, adjustment, or calibration due to misuse, abuse, or negligence is excluded, as is unauthorized service or modification (which voids the warranty entirely). To obtain a refund or replacement, return the product to the place of purchase and retain your receipt for warranty claims.
