Installation instructions for the DataComm Electronics 45-0024-WH Recessed Pro-Power Kit with Duplex Receptacle and Straight Blade Inlet — a retrofit kit for running power and low-voltage cables behind a flat panel TV, amplifier, or other A/V equipment.

Overview

This kit lets you route power and low-voltage cables through the wall to your equipment room or head-end without exposed cords, using two recessed cable plates connected by standard electrical building wire.

• 15 Amp / 125 Volt tamper-resistant duplex receptacle

• The electrical parts in this kit are designed to be used only together as a kit — none are designed for individual use, and this kit is not part of a home or commercial building's electrical wiring system.
• This installation is only energized when the supplied 6 ft. cord is plugged into the recessed straight blade inlet, and the other end into a surge protector or wall receptacle.
• If you're not familiar with home wiring systems, call a qualified electrician.
• This product is designed for retrofit work only — the electrical outlet box cannot be attached to a stud.
• Only licensed professionals should install this product.

Installation Steps

Top Plate with Duplex Receptacle

1. Select the location of your flat panel TV mounting bracket, then select the locations for both cable plates. The receptacle side of the mid-size plate should be 3"–5" from the stud, with the plates mounted between studs.
2. Using the supplied template, trace and cut the opening in the drywall with a drywall saw.
3. Run 12/2 or 14/2 w/ground UL-approved electrical building wire (not included) from the top opening to the bottom opening, connecting the duplex receptacle cable plate to the straight blade inlet cable plate. Pull the wire through a knockout hole in the top plate's electrical outlet box.
4. Pull the other end of the wire through a knockout hole in the bottom plate's electrical outlet box.
5. Wire the duplex receptacle: connect the hot (black) wire to the brass terminal, the neutral (white) wire to the silver terminal, and the ground (green/bare) wire to the green terminal. Use copper wire only — this UL-recognized receptacle must be properly grounded for shock protection. Screw the receptacle into the outlet box.
6. Secure the electrical outlet box to the mounting studs on the back of the Mid-Size Plate using the four provided screws.
7. Before installing the plate into the opening, pull your low-voltage cables through the low-voltage opening (remove the flexible seal plate if you have more than 4 cables). Slide the plate into the opening starting from the bottom, swing the top into position, and screw down the wing screws to fasten against the back of the drywall.

Bottom Cable Plate with Straight Blade Inlet

1. Wire the straight blade inlet to the building wire: hot (black) to black, neutral (white) to white, ground (green/bare) to green. Fasten all three wire nuts tightly.
2. Secure the electrical outlet box to the mounting studs on the back of the plate using the four provided screws.
3. Pull low-voltage cables through the low-voltage opening as with the top plate, then slide the plate in from the side, swing into position, and secure with the wing screws.

Finishing Up

1. Install your flat panel TV mounting bracket per the bracket manufacturer's instructions.
2. Hang the TV, plug it into the top Cable Plate with Duplex Receptacle, then plug the cord set into the bottom Cable Plate with Straight Blade Inlet, and the male end of the cord set into a nearby wall receptacle.

• Do not use this product near water (bath tub, sink, wet basement, swimming pool, etc.).
