Overview

The Voice Alert™ Talking Alarm (models VA-6000S base + VA-6000T detector/transmitter) is a wireless motion-detection alert system. The infrared motion detector/transmitter (VA-6000T) has a battery-powered range of roughly 300 meters (line of sight) and triggers the VA-6000S receiver base, which plays back up to 6 pre-recorded voice messages in the user's own voice. An unlimited number of detectors/transmitters can be installed, and the base includes 4 dry-contact (open/closed) outputs for triggering other devices such as lighting or additional transmitters.

Typical uses: entry/driveway/pool/garage monitoring, wander/elopement alerts, and custom deterrent messages.

Setup

1. Install the Detector/Transmitter Battery

Remove the VA-6000T cover by pressing the release tab underneath, then connect a 9-volt alkaline battery.

2. Connect the Base

Use the included AC adapter/charger (220V/50Hz) and plug it into the back of the VA-6000S base.

3. Record Messages

1. Turn on the base with the POWER switch on top; the POWER LED lights up.
2. Slide the front selector to the "RECORD" position.
3. Press and hold message button #1 while speaking into the MIC. The SETUP LED stays lit while recording (max. 6 seconds per message).
4. Repeat for buttons #2–#6 as needed.
5. To re-record a message, repeat steps 2–3.
6. When finished, slide the selector to "RUN".
7. In RUN mode, press any message button to play back that recorded message.
8. Adjust playback loudness with the VOLUME knob.

4. Record the Low-Battery Alert Message

Slide to "RECORD", hold the PLAYBACK button, and speak a message (e.g. "Change battery") into the MIC, then return to "RUN". Press button #1 for 2 seconds to hear this alert. When a VA-6000T's battery needs replacing, the base's LOW BATTERY LED flashes and the base plays the low-battery message together with the affected detector's normal message, helping you identify which unit needs a new battery.

Playback & Message Indicator

When a message plays, the "MSG" LED flashes to indicate an alert occurred while you were away. Press PLAYBACK to hear the corresponding message(s); the LED turns off once playback finishes.

Programming Detectors/Transmitters

Each VA-6000T ships pre-programmed and works out of the box. To change its code or add additional detectors:

1. Power on the VA-6000S base.
2. Slide the base selector to "PROGRAM".
3. Set a unique code on the detector's 8 dip-switches.
4. Trigger the detector (wave a hand in front of it) until its red LED lights; the base's SETUP LED also lights, confirming it received the signal.
5. While SETUP is lit, press the message button (#2–#6) you want that detector to trigger. SETUP turns off once programmed.
6. Repeat for each additional detector.
7. Return the selector to "RUN" when finished.

Note: Multiple detectors set to the same dip-switch code will all play the same message.

Power-Save Mode

Switch W1 on the detector disables the red indicator LED (set to OFF to save power). Dial VR1 sets the delay between transmissions (up to 3 minutes) to avoid cascading alerts on repeated detections — factory default is zero delay. For maximum power savings, set W1 to OFF and VR1 to its longest delay.

Installing the Detector/Transmitter

• For smooth, flat interior surfaces, use the included double-sided adhesive.
• For exterior or irregular surfaces, or high-wind locations, use the included screws and anchors with the paper drilling template provided.
• Mount at approximately 2.30 m (7.5 ft) above the floor for optimal range.

Adjusting Detection Coverage

Factory coverage pattern covers a 12 m × 12 m area when mounted at 2.30 m height. Interchangeable lens masks/caps let you narrow the field to a vertical or horizontal pattern as needed. To change: remove the cover, insert the chosen mask into the frame behind the lens, and press it gently into place. Always verify coverage with test walk-throughs after adjusting.

Placement Tips for Best Performance

1. Avoid direct sun or bright/hot spotlights on the detector.
2. Avoid hot or cold air currents (heaters, A/C, drafty doors/windows) — keep at least 1 m from such sources.
3. Mount so that foot traffic crosses the detection beams at a right angle (perpendicular), not head-on, for best detection.
4. Avoid obstacles (furniture, trees, flags, or anything that moves) that could block the beam or cause false alarms.
5. Keep detectors away from metal surfaces (aluminum doors/windows, metal garage doors), which reduce radio range.
6. Ensure the rubber gasket around the cover remains properly seated for weather resistance.
7. Use the power-save settings (see above) to maximize battery life.

Changing a Detector's Code

Each VA-6000T ships pre-programmed to work with any VA-6000S base within range. To dedicate a transmitter to a specific base, or simply change its code: remove the cover and set the dip-switches to a different combination than your current transmitter, then re-teach the new code to the base (see Programming section above). Detectors sharing the same dip-switch code will all trigger the same message, so the base doesn't need to be reprogrammed for each additional unit sharing that code.

Transmitter-Only Mode (No Motion Sensor)

The VA-6000T can operate as a transmitter only (motion sensing disabled) by setting the ON/OFF switch to OFF and wiring any external wired sensor of your choice to the screw terminal block.

Output Contact Duration

Up to 4 dry-contact (0V, no-voltage) devices can be connected to the base's rear outputs, rated up to 24VDC / 1A. Terminals NO.1–NO.4 correspond to channels #1–#4. To set contact duration (no output, 1 sec, 5 sec, 30 sec, 60 sec, or continuous):

1. Slide the base selector to "RUN".
2. Press and hold PLAYBACK for 2 seconds.
3. Press each channel button (#1–#4) in turn; the 3 red indicator LEDs show the selected duration per the chart on the unit.
4. Press PLAYBACK again to confirm and lock each setting.
5. Repeat for all 4 outputs.

Note: If set to "CONTINUOUS" and triggered, toggle the power switch OFF then ON to reset the contact.

External Message Playback

Recorded messages can be routed to an intercom or PA system via the base's "LINE OUT" jack (in the same row as the other contact outputs). Volume for this external output is controlled on the connected intercom/amplifier, not on the base's own VOLUME knob.
