Complete installation and user guide for the Channel Vision P-0920 Telephone Entry Controller — creates an elegant door intercom system using Channel Vision's IU and DP series door stations, ringing phones in the house when the doorbell is pressed.

    Overview

The P-0920 works with Channel Vision's IU and DP series door stations. When the doorbell button is pressed, the phones ring — answer to speak with the person at the door.

    Features

    • Distinctive telephone ring
    • LED status indicators
    • RJ-45 connections for input and output
    • Compatible with Channel Vision's DP and IU door stations

    Connections

    • CO Input — phone line in from the service provider (Central Office).
    • Ring — dry contact that closes when the doorbell button is pressed.
    • Unlock Door — connect a standard push-button; activates the door strike relay when pressed. (TE110DS sold separately.)
    • Intercom — connect a compatible door intercom station.
    • Power — connect the included 12VAC power supply.
    • Phones — output to telephones.

    Status LEDs

    • Ring LED — flashes when phones ring.
    • Intercom Active LED — lights when the door intercom station is in use.
    • Strike Active LED — lights when the door strike relay has been activated.

    RJ-45 Ports

RJ-45 input for CO lines and output to Telephones allow pass-through of 4 telephone lines — only line 1 is affected by the telephone entry controller. Important: the RJ-45 input/output cannot be used simultaneously with a CO line connected to the wire terminal input.

    Compatibility

The P-0920 must be used with a compatible door intercom station — Channel Vision's IU-series and DP-series (e.g. model DP-0212 is compatible).

Important exception: Some IU-series and DP-series stations with model numbers ending in "P" are only compatible with Panasonic KSU phone systems and will NOT work with the P-0920 (e.g. DP-0212P is NOT compatible).

    How It Works

The P-0920 installs in-line between your telephone service provider and your telephone distribution system. When the door intercom button is pressed, house phones ring; answering within 20 seconds connects you automatically to the door station. After 20 seconds, pick up the phone and dial ** (or ##, depending on configuration) to connect manually.

With the optional TE110DS door strike relay module, activate it via touch-tone code, or by pressing a button wired to the "Unlock Door" terminals (useful for opening an access gate without a phone).

Use the "Chime" terminals to also ring a traditional doorbell chime whenever the door intercom button is pressed.

    Wiring Options

    • Option 1: Connect the active phone line via a wire pair to the "CO Input" terminals, and a wire pair from "Telephone" terminals to your telephone distribution wiring.
    • Option 2: Use the RJ-45 jacks for "CO Input" and "Telephone" output — simplifies wiring using CAT5 jumper cables to interconnect with other Channel Vision telephone modules.

    Basic Application & Setup

For proper operation, phones must connect through the P-0920 — telephones wired directly to the service provider (bypassing the unit) cannot use the entry system.

Important: Use the included 12VAC power supply (or equivalent). A DC power supply may appear to work, but the unit will be unable to ring the phones.

    Configuration Switches

    Switch Function
    Key * - # Sets the activation key. On = #, Off = *
No CO On enables "No CO" mode, allowing the unit to work without an active telephone line.
Rings 3-5 Sets the ring pattern. On = 5 rings, Off = 3 rings.
Strike Time (1,2,3) Sets how long the TE110DS stays activated (see table below).

    Strike Time Settings

    Switch 1 Switch 2 Switch 3 Duration
    Off Off Off 3 seconds
    On Off Off 5 seconds
    Off On Off 8 seconds
    On On Off 15 seconds
    Off Off On 20 seconds
    On Off On 40 seconds
    Off On On 120 seconds
    On On On 240 seconds

Using the TE110DS Door Strike Relay (Sold Separately)

The TE110DS is a normally-open dry contact, activated by dialing a key sequence on a touch-tone phone. When activated, the contact closes, delivering power to the electronic door opener/strike for the duration set by the Strike Time switches.

    DSL Filtering

If DSL is present on the phone line, install a DSL filter before the P-0920 to prevent static/screeching noise on the intercom. Filtering can also be done with a P-0411 ADSL Filter/Surge Suppressor module (DSL filter applies only to line 1 / Blue-Blue-White pair).

    Using a Traditional Door Chime

The "Chime" wire terminals are dry contacts that close when the door intercom button is pressed. Wire a standard doorbell chime to these terminals as if they were the doorbell button itself — pressing the intercom button will ring both the phones and the chime.

    User's Guide

    Basic Configuration

    • Set "Key # - *" to determine the activation key.
    • Set "No CO" for the desired mode.
    • Set "Rings 3-5" for the desired distinctive ring pattern (3-ring or 5-ring).
    • Set the "Strike Time" switches for the desired door release duration.

    Basic Operation

(Assuming the "Key * - #" switch is set to "*"):

    • When the doorbell is pressed, you'll hear the selected distinctive ring pattern.
    • Within 20 seconds: pick up the phone to connect to the door speaker.
    • After 20 seconds: pick up the phone and press "**" to connect.
    • To end the call: hang up, or press "**" again.
    • If already on a call when the doorbell is pressed: you'll hear a call-waiting tone — press "**" to hold your call and connect to the door speaker; press "**" again to return to your call.
    • To close the door strike relay while already on the intercom: press "*7".
    • To close the door strike relay without being on the intercom: press "***7".
    • To close the door strike without a phone at all: use an optional push button on the "Unlock Door" terminals.

    Connection Tips & Troubleshooting

    Symptom Solution
Phones don't ring, but ** (or ##) still connects to the door station Verify the power supply is supplying 12VAC. Measure AC voltage on the "Phones" terminals during a ring cycle — should read 70–90 VAC.
House phones can't communicate with the door station Confirm the power supply is plugged in, and phones are connected to the "Phones" output terminals (test with one phone connected directly).
Static/screeching noise while speaking to the door station If DSL is present, install a DSL filter on the phone line before the telephone entry controller.
Phone doesn't release the line when hung up after speaking to the door station Occurs when connected phones draw unusual current. Press the disconnect key (## or ** depending on setup) to force disconnect.
TE110DS doesn't activate Confirm correct key sequence: *7 (or #7) if already on the intercom, ***7 (or ###7) if not. Check voltage on "INTERCOM" terminals: ~1VDC idle, ~6VDC while speaking, ≥10VDC when TE110DS is activated.

    Stripping & Connecting CAT5 Wire

    1. Use a proper stripping tool (e.g. Channel Vision's J-110). Place the CAT5 between the blade and the first notch.
    2. Rotate the tool only once — multiple turns will cut into the inner wires.
    3. Inspect the inner wires for damage — if any wire is cut, start over from step 1.

    TIA-568A RJ-45 wiring order (pins 1–8): Green/White, Green, Orange/White, Blue, Blue/White, Orange, Brown/White, Brown.
