Chamberlain 953EV/956EV Series — 3-Button Remote Control User Manual

Programming and battery instructions for Chamberlain 3-button remote controls, models 953EV, 953EV-P2, 953EVC, 953EVC-P2, 956EV, 956EV-P2, 956EVC, and 956EVC-P2. Compatible with Chamberlain 315 MHz or 390 MHz garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993 — each remote can activate up to three garage door openers.

Before You Begin

Confirm the garage door opener has a working light bulb — it's used as a programming indicator. Locate the Learn button on the garage door opener and the Program button on the remote control.

Programming the Remote (953EV, 953EV-P2, 953EVC, 953EVC-P2)

1. Press and hold the Program button on the remote until its LED turns on.
2. Press and release the remote button you want to use, the number of times matching your opener's Learn button type (see table below).
3. Press and release the Learn button on the garage door opener. The Learn LED will light — within 30 seconds:
4. Press the remote button programmed in step 2 until the opener's lights flash or two clicks are heard.
5. To test, press the programmed remote button — the garage door opener will activate.
6. Install the visor clip.
7. To exit programming mode without saving, press any remote button other than the one just programmed.

Programming the Remote (956EV, 956EV-P2, 956EVC, 956EVC-P2)

Same sequence as above, except the Learn button on the garage door opener is pressed using a safety pin or paper clip (recessed button).

Battery Replacement

The remote's LED stops flashing when the battery is low. Open the case as follows, then replace with a 3V CR2032 coin cell battery only, positive side (+) up. Dispose of the old battery properly.

• 953EV / 953EV-P2 / 953EVC / 953EVC-P2: pry open the case at the middle first, then at each side, using the visor clip.
• 956EV / 956EV-P2 / 956EVC / 956EVC-P2: pry open the case with a screwdriver blade.

Battery safety: never allow small children near batteries; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Replace only with 3V CR2032 coin batteries. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 212°F (100°C), or incinerate.
