Chamberlain 940EV/940EVC Series — Wireless Keyless Entry User Manual

Programming, installation, and operation guide for the Chamberlain Wireless Keyless Entry, models 940EV, 940EV-P2, 940EVC, and 940EVC-P2. Compatible with Chamberlain garage door openers manufactured after January 1, 1993.

Safety Warnings

• This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm (details at www.P65Warnings.ca.gov).
• Install the Keyless Entry within sight of the garage door, at a minimum height of 5 feet (1.5 m) above floors/landings/steps, out of reach of small children, and away from all moving parts of the door.
• ALWAYS keep remote controls out of reach of children — never allow children to operate or play with them.
• Activate the gate or door only when clearly visible, properly adjusted, and free of obstructions.
• ALWAYS keep the gate or door in sight until fully closed; never let anyone cross the path of a moving gate or door.

Before You Begin

Install the battery and program the Keyless Entry before mounting it. Confirm the garage door opener has a working light bulb — it's used as a programming indicator. Locate the Learn button on your opener (color varies: Green, Red/Orange, Purple, or Yellow).

Programming a PIN

1. Press and hold the * and # buttons until the keypad lights stop blinking.
2. Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice, then press #.
3. Press and release the ENTER button the number of times matching your opener's Learn button type (see table below).
4. Press and release the 0 button.
5. Press and release the Learn button on the garage door opener — the Learn LED lights. Within 30 seconds:
6. Enter your 4-digit PIN, then press and release ENTER, holding until the opener's lights flash or two clicks are heard.
7. To test, enter your PIN and press ENTER — the garage door opener will activate.

To program the Keyless Entry to more than one garage door opener, repeat these steps with a new PIN for each additional opener.

Learn Button Types

Changing an Existing PIN

1. Enter the programmed PIN you want to change.
2. Press and hold the # button until the garage door opener's light bulb blinks twice.
3. Enter the new 4-digit PIN and press ENTER — the light bulb blinks once.
4. To test, enter the new PIN and press ENTER — the opener will activate.

Programming a Temporary PIN — By Number of Hours

Not available on openers with a green Learn button or an external receiver. Each programmed PIN can generate one temporary PIN, valid for a set number of hours or door openings (not both), and it cannot duplicate an existing PIN.

1. Enter any programmed PIN, then press and hold * until the opener's light bulb flashes 3 times.
2. Enter the temporary 4-digit PIN, then press * — the light bulb flashes 4 times.
3. Press the number of hours the temporary PIN should work (up to 255), then press *. The light bulb flashes once.
4. To test, enter the temporary PIN and press ENTER — the opener will activate.

Programming a Temporary PIN — By Number of Openings

1. Enter any programmed PIN, then press and hold * until the opener's light bulb flashes 3 times.
2. Enter the temporary 4-digit PIN, then press ENTER — the light bulb flashes 4 times.
3. Press the number of openings the temporary PIN should work (up to 255), then press #. The light bulb flashes once.
4. To test, enter the temporary PIN and press ENTER — the opener will activate and use one opening from the count.

Installation

1. Choose a mounting location at least 5 feet (1.5 m) high, out of reach of children.
2. Remove the battery cover and battery.
3. Mark the top mounting hole and drill a 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) pilot hole.
4. Install the top screw, leaving 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) protruding, and hang the Keyless Entry over it.
5. Mark and drill the bottom hole, then install the bottom screw — do not overtighten, to avoid cracking the housing.
6. Reinstall the battery and battery cover.

Operation

Enter your PIN and press ENTER to activate the garage door opener. The keypad blinks for 15 seconds, during which ENTER can be pressed again to stop, start, or reverse the door. If you enter the wrong digits, simply enter the correct PIN followed by ENTER — the unit only transmits the last four digits entered before ENTER is pressed.

One Button Close

Allows the door to be closed by pressing ENTER alone, without a PIN. Not available on openers manufactured before 2006 or those using an external receiver.

• To deactivate: press and hold the 1 and 9 buttons for 10 seconds — the keypad blinks 4 times when deactivated.
• To activate: press and hold the 1 and 9 buttons for 10 seconds — the keypad blinks twice when activated.

Battery

Uses a 9V battery. Replace when the keypad becomes dim or fails to light after a button press.

Battery safety: never allow small children near batteries; if swallowed, seek medical attention immediately. Dispose of the old battery properly.
