Aeotec ZWA022-A — illumino WallMote 7 Quick-Start Guide

Quick-start guide for the Aeotec illumino WallMote 7 (ZWA022-A) — a battery-powered, wall-mountable or handheld Z-Wave Plus wireless remote with two paddle switches for scene control and dimming.

Button Functions

The LED indicator lights up any time a paddle is pressed, blinking once per tap (once for 1-tap, twice for 2-tap, etc). LED color and behavior are configurable in advanced/hub settings.

Powering the Device

1. Use the included triangle tool to pry open the housing — insert and push to separate the two halves.
2. Remove the battery insulation tabs.
3. The WallMote 7's LED will flash immediately to confirm it's powered.

Connecting to a Hub

Aeotec AutoPilot: Devices → + Add new → + → + Add → tap the top or bottom switch once (LED flashes white while connecting) → enter the 5-digit DSK or scan the QR code if prompted.

Aeotec Smart Home Hub / SmartThings: Open the app → tap + → Device → find/select Aeotec → Remote/button → Aeotec WallMote → Start, then follow prompts → tap the top or bottom switch once when prompted → enter the DSK or scan the QR code if prompted.

Z-Stick Gen5 / Gen5+: Unplug the Z-Stick, press its Action Button to enter "add device" mode → tap the top or bottom switch once → scan the QR code or enter the 5-digit DSK if prompted.

SmartStart-compatible gateways: Scan the QR code on the device using the gateway's app — it will join the network automatically, no further action needed.

Other hubs: Set the Z-Wave hub to add new devices, then tap the top or bottom switch once.

Connection result: LED goes solid green for 2 seconds on success, or solid red for 2 seconds on failure.

Not Connecting?

1. Move the hub or WallMote 7 closer together.
2. Set the hub to remove Z-Wave devices.
3. Tap the top or bottom switch 6 times within 2 seconds — LED blinks purple while removing itself; if successful, it fades in/out, ready to pair with a new hub.
4. Retry the connection steps above.

Wall Installation

Using adhesive (no gang box available):

1. Peel the adhesive protective sheet off the back of the hang wallplate.
2. Press firmly against the wall in the desired location for 5 seconds.
3. Screw the mounting plate into the hang wallplate using the 2 small screws.
4. Place the face plate over the hang wallplate and mounting plate.
5. Place the WallMote 7 unit into the center.

Using screws (no gang box available):

1. Hold the wallplate against the desired location and mark the 2 inner mounting holes with a pencil.
2. Drill small pilot holes at the marks.
3. Screw the hang wallplate to the wall using the 2 long screws.
4. Screw the mounting plate into the hang wallplate using the 2 small screws.
5. Place the face plate over the assembly, then place the WallMote 7 unit into the center.

Gang box installation: Affix the mounting plate to the hang wallplate, then screw the assembly directly into a single- or multi-gang electrical box using the inner screw holes. Full step-by-step guide at support.aeotec.com/wallmote7.
