    Installation guide for the Zipato Multi Sensor Triple (ZPWTMS3IN1US) — a battery-powered Z-Wave sensor combining motion detection, light intensity, and temperature sensing with tamper protection.

    Overview

    The Multi Sensor Triple detects movement, measures ambient light, and reads temperature, and can trigger a security system. It runs on 2x AA 1.5V (non-rechargeable) batteries and operates on 868.42 MHz Z-Wave. It functions as a battery-sleeping device that wakes periodically per the Wake Up Command Class, rather than always listening.

    Mounting Instructions

    1. Use a flat screwdriver at the side inlets to gently unlock the back cover.
    2. Screw-mount the back cover using the designated holes. For optimal detection, mount between 1.8m and 2.4m above the ground (an optional rotating bracket lets you adjust direction).
    3. Insert two AA 1.5V batteries.
    4. Mount the sensor onto the back cover, closing all sides fully so the tamper switch engages properly.
    5. After 3 seconds, the startup routine begins (indicator: Ready for learn mode).
    6. After 5 more seconds (8 total), mounting is complete (indicator: Mounting successful).
    7. The sensor then runs a 10-second startup.
    8. After 10 seconds total, the sensor is ready for detection.

    Placement tip: without the bracket, mount in the middle of a wall (not facing down) for best motion coverage — poor placement in a corner or facing the wrong direction significantly reduces detection quality.

    Network Inclusion / Exclusion

    1. Put your Z-Wave controller into the correct inclusion or exclusion mode.
    2. Remove the sensor from its back cover (per mounting step 1).
    3. Press and hold the tamper switch for 4 seconds (indicator: Ready for learn mode), then release to start the inclusion/exclusion process.
    4. If normal inclusion fails, the device automatically starts Network Wide Inclusion (NWI).

    Wake Up interval default is 7,200 seconds (2 hours), default node 0xFF (broadcast). Pressing and holding the tamper switch for 8 seconds forces a wake-up notification on demand. "Always awake" mode (Param 5 = 3) drains batteries quickly and is not recommended for normal use.

    Alarm & Notification Behavior

    • Motion detected → Basic Set value 255 sent to associated nodes; motion clears after timeout → Basic Set value 0 sent.
    • Tamper alarm type 3 (Tamper switch): value 0x00 = tamper placed correctly, 0xFF = tamper alarm triggered.
    • Battery warning (value 255) sent automatically on wake-up once battery drops below 20%.
    • Association: 1 group supported, up to 5 nodes per group.

    Troubleshooting FAQ

    • No movement detected: Confirm the sensor is included in a Z-Wave network, and check/replace batteries if low.
    • Incorrect temperature reading: Avoid direct sunlight on the unit (heats the housing); recalibrate the temperature offset via your gateway if needed.
    • Configured value doesn't take effect: Verify you used the correct byte size for that parameter — a mismatched size causes the frame to be ignored entirely.
    • 8-second mount routine ends with 6 blinks instead of steady light: Indicates the sensor is not included, not associated, or can't reach its destination node — resolve all three and re-mount.
    • Configuration resets after exclude: Expected behavior — excluding the device resets all configuration including wake-up timing back to default.
