    September 08, 2026 4 min read

Full product data sheet for the Zipabox smart home controller platform and its expansion module ecosystem (backup, security, power, ZigBee, 433MHz, EnOcean, KNX, serial, P1, 3G).

    Full text manual (for reference)

Product data sheet for the Zipabox Smart Home Controller platform and its expansion module ecosystem, covering the core gateway plus modules for backup power, security, energy metering, ZigBee, 433MHz, EnOcean, KNX, serial, P1, and 3G connectivity.

Zipabox Smart Home Controller — Overview

Zipabox is a smart-home gateway that plugs into any outlet and connects the devices in a home to the cloud, so they can be controlled from a tablet, smartphone, computer, or TV — at home or remotely. It communicates through Z-Wave, ZigBee, KNX, ONVIF, UPnP, and DLNA, and its capabilities expand via snap-in expansion modules. Once configured, it works stand-alone but also supports cloud monitoring, messaging, and programming services. An intuitive graphical interface (Zipato Rule Creator) lets customers program their own home automation rules without programming experience.

    Expansion Module Lineup

    Backup Expansion Module

Converts Zipabox into a virtually undefeatable security station: uninterruptible battery backup (up to 24h autonomy), connects an external horn/siren directly, and adds optional GPRS/3G backup connectivity via USB 3G stick. Dimensions: 86 x 55 x 48 mm.

    Security Expansion Module

Connects wired security sensors directly to Zipabox. 6 on-board wired zones (expandable to 24 with additional modules), 1 siren input/output, 1 PGM solid-state relay output (user-selectable trigger polarity), RS-232/RS-485 serial port, and a lead-acid battery charger. Power specs: Aux power 12VDC 600mA, bell/siren out 800mA, siren in 12VDC 20mA, PGM out 100mA.

    Power Expansion Module

True smart metering for up to 20 electricity circuits via current clamps (4 direct, 16 more via add-ons). Measures instantaneous voltage, current, and power per channel, plus active/reactive power and energy consumption. Power supply: input 90-265VAC 50-60Hz, output 12VDC 1.5A, >85% efficiency.

    ZigBee Expansion Module

Adds ZigBee mesh network connectivity (HA profile) for smart meters and ZigBee-enabled devices. Dimensions: 86 x 30 x 48 mm.

    433MHz Expansion Module

Connects popular 433.92MHz protocols (X10, CoCo, Chacon, Oregon Scientific, Lightwave, etc.) alongside Z-Wave, ZigBee, and KNX devices on the same network. Supports automatic firmware updates.

    EnOcean Expansion Module

Integrates battery-free EnOcean sensors/switches (energy harvesting from motion, light, temperature) per ISO/IEC 14543-3-10. Range up to 300m outdoor / 30m indoor. Frequency: 868.3 MHz (EU) / 902.875 MHz (US).

    KNX Expansion Module

Joins a KNX/EIB network to Zipabox via the KNX Serial BAOS 820 module (FT1.2 serial protocol, EMI2 telegrams, BAOS Binary V1 data points), supporting up to 250 group objects/parameters. Requires KNX ETS software for configuration (demo license: 3 devices; Lite license: 20 devices). Ambient operating temp: -5°C to +45°C; SELV DC 24V isolated.

    Serial Expansion Module

Interconnects Zipabox with existing security panels (DSC, Paradox, etc.) or other RS-232/RS-485 systems, plus an additional USB connector. Dimensions: 86 x 30 x 48 mm.

    P1 Expansion Module

Connects external electricity meters supporting the P1 smart-meter standard.

    Zipato Rule Creator

A graphical, MIT Scratch-inspired online automation tool requiring no programming skills. Events can be triggered by conditions, device status changes, absolute time, sunrise/sunset (with offset), received email, security panel events, matched IR codes, or recurring intervals. Triggered actions can include lighting control, sending email, running scripts, triggering other events, or controlling media players and web cameras.

    Warranty

All modules ship with a standard one (1) year limited warranty. Specifications subject to change without prior notice.
