    Full text manual (for reference)

Specification sheet for the Zane AC2 Two-Wire, Low-Voltage AC Dimmer — a low-voltage (12/24VAC) dimmer for incandescent lighting and AC-rated LED modules, installed on the low-voltage side of a magnetic step-down transformer.

    Overview

The Zane Two-Wire, Low-Voltage AC Dimmer blends safe-to-the-touch 12 or 24 VAC power with the illumination quality of low-voltage incandescent lighting, and is optimized for AC-rated LED modules as well. It installs on the low-voltage side of a magnetic step-down transformer for easy system design and individual fixture control, using the same two-wire hookup as a standard toggle switch — no grounding wire, bypass wire, or component matching required. An existing toggle switch can be directly replaced with zero wiring changes.

A triac-based "pi" trigger circuit with a low-firing-point diac delivers flicker-free, wide-band dimming performance from a warm glow through high-intensity incandescent or LED brightness, while minimizing waste heat. A heavy RF noise filter (about 10x the suppression of an ordinary filter) attenuates interference with nearby radios and electronics. Rotary adjustment provides tactile on/off with soft start/end to extend bulb life, and an included potentiometer lets you fine-tune minimum brightness on the fly to compensate for line voltage variation or create special lighting effects.

    Features

    • Installs on the low-voltage side of a magnetic step-down transformer for easy system design and individual control
    • Two-wire hookup — no grounding wire, bypass wire, or component matching, ever
    • Wide-band brightness performance from warm glow through high-intensity incandescent or LED
    • Rotary adjustment with tactile on/off; soft start/end extends the life of incandescent bulbs
    • Heavy filtering minimizes RF noise
    • 10 or 20 amps max at either 12 or 24 VAC

    Applications

    • Yard: Pool, patio, spa, pathway, pond, fountain, security lighting (low incandescent settings don't attract bugs)
    • Architectural & Landscape: Spot, wash, and flood lighting for dramatic effect and balance, including "moon garden" applications
    • Interior: Presentation lighting, night lighting, stage lighting
    • Mobile: Variable lighting for RV and marine interior/exterior

    Technical Specifications

    Parameter Value
Mode of Operation Triac-based with pi-configured trigger circuit, low-firing-point diac, heavy RF filter
Supply Voltage 12 VAC or 24 VAC nominal; each lighting circuit should be individually fused at rated current (10A or 20A)
Load Types Resistive loads (incandescent, heating elements) and AC-rated LED modules; not suitable for motors
Maximum Load Normal operation 70–80% of rated current; usable up to the point the 10A/20A user-installed fuse opens
Minimum Load 1A (12/24W), or slight flickering may result
Dimming Range About 10% min (factory setting) to about 90% max; can be manually set to about 5% min
Ambient Temperature Range −40°F (−40°C) to 115°F (46°C), with restrictions noted
AC-AC Conversion Efficiency About 85% at full rated load
Line/Load Regulation Line regulation directly proportional to AC line voltage; load regulation generally less than 3% from min to max load
Service Life of On/Off Switch About 50,000 cycles
    Size / Weight About 1.8" (45mm) × 1.3" (33mm) × 1.7" (43mm) excluding knob; ~6 oz (168g) for 10A version, ~8 oz (225g) for 20A version
Heat Dissipation Temperature rise of plate at rated current is about 40°F (22°C) above ambient; the metallic wall plate serves as an external heat dissipater and should stay out of direct sunlight and away from thermal insulation
Transient Protection Pi trigger circuit acts as a spike filter for additional protection against transient voltages
Installation Installs directly into a standard 1-gang outlet box with provided plate screws
Accessories Included Color-coordinated mounting screws, tagged leads, detailed installation instructions
