Yale YH Collection Lockset — Installation Instructions

Installation instructions for Yale's YH Collection tubular lockset — covering knob/lever assembly, oval and traditional rosette designs, latch adjustment, UL fire-door installation, and the door-prep template.

Overview

Install the lockset components in order, keeping each subassembly together when removing from the packaging. For UL-listed products, the steel cup must be installed as part of the unit (see UL Fire Door Installation below).

1. Latch Adjustment

If your YH Collection lockset includes an adjustable latch, you'll see a double arrow pointing to 2 3/8" and 2 3/4", with the word "PUSH" on one side of the latch.

• No adjustment is needed for a 2 3/8" (60mm) backset.
• For a 2 3/4" (70mm) backset: hold the latch face in one hand, (a) push in the hub with the square hole on the side labeled "push" to release the latch, then (b) pull the hub away from the face. The latch backset should now read 2 3/4" (70mm).

2. Latch Installation

Insert the latch through the hole in the door edge and screw it in place using two 3/4" Phillips-head screws. The curved edge of the latch bolt should face the direction the door closes.

Exterior Assembly for Oval and Traditional Rosette Design

Align the rose support in the door in a vertical position. Insert the square spindle through the square hole in the latch and install the chassis over the latch.

3A. Exterior Assembly — Keyed Entry Knob Sets and All Interior Knob/Lever Sets

Slide the exterior half of the chassis into the hole with the square spindle engaging the square hole in the latch — the release button should point away from the door's edge. Slide the interior half of the chassis onto the square spindle, again with the release button pointing away from the door's edge. Make sure the button engages the hole in the knob or lever correctly — it's possible to install with the button in the wrong position, so check before installing the interior chassis rose on the chassis plate.

3B. Keyed Entry Lever Sets Only

Slide the exterior half of the chassis into the hole with the square spindle engaging the square hole in the latch — this time the release button should point toward the door's edge. Slide the interior half of the chassis onto the square spindle with the release button also pointing toward the door's edge. Confirm the button engages correctly before installing the interior chassis rose.

Note: To remove a keyed entry lever handle, (a) insert the key and (b) turn 90°. Using a key or other fine-point instrument, push in the release button (c) and remove the lever.

Interior Assembly for Oval and Traditional Rosette Design

Align the chassis and rose support to the door and insert the attachment screws. Tighten the screws to the exterior chassis, making sure the rose support is vertical and straight.

4A. Interior Assembly

Attach the interior assembly with mounting screws. Place the interior rose cover over the interior round tube and snap it over the interior chassis plate. Note: If the rose cover needs to be removed, the best tool is a kitchen fork — place the tip of a fork tine in the rectangular cutout on the rose edge and pry the cover off the plate. Place paper between the door and the fork to prevent damage to the door finish.

5. Knob / Lever Assembly

Install the knob/lever over the tube and depress the release button with a small nail or key — push on the knob until the button engages the hole in the neck of the knob/lever. Note: Levers are NOT handed — exterior and interior levers may be exchanged.

Attention: For solid brass products, tighten the set screw on the bottom of the knob/lever after installing over the tube and release button.

Emergency Tool Use (Interior Locking Sets)

For interior locking sets, an emergency unlocking tool is included (3" long with a loop at one end). Insert the tool horizontally into the hole in the exterior knob/lever and turn left or right to release the interior push-button lock.

Installation Template & Door Preparation

Caution: Although a door can be prepared by an untrained person, Yale recommends that measurements and drilling be done by a skilled carpenter or locksmith.

New Door Preparation Steps

1. Fold the template as marked and place it on the door. If the door corner is beveled, place the template on the widest side of the door.
2. Mark centers for both holes. Drill 1/8" (3mm) pilot holes at the centers, completely through the door thickness.
3. Bore a 2 1/8" (54mm) hole halfway through the door from the front, then finish boring from the other side of the door to prevent splintering.
4. To mark the strike hole location, put a finish nail through the pilot hole in the door edge, close the door, and mark the door jamb.
5. Bore a 1" (25mm) hole through the door edge.
6. Bore a 1" (25mm) hole into the jamb to a depth of 1/2" (13mm).
7. Trace the outlines of the latchplate and strike plate. Carefully chisel away the outlined areas until the plates fit flush, then drill pilot holes for the latchplate mounting screws.
8. Secure the strike plate with two 3/4" screws, then install the lockset as explained in the main installation steps.

UL Fire Door Installation (Steel Cup)

To qualify as a UL-approved lockset, the steel cup must be installed as part of the unit. This lockset is designed for installation in swinging-type fire doors measuring up to 48" wide and 96" high, rated up to and including 90 minutes.

1. Place the steel cup inside the 2 1/8" hole in the door as shown, with the open part of the cup facing the exterior.
2. Insert the latch through the 1" hole in the edge of the door, guiding it through the 1" hole in the steel cup.
3. Proceed with normal installation of the lock or deadbolt.
