Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD226/YRD426) — Installation & Programming Manual

Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD226/YRD426), covering mechanical installation, PIN code programming, factory reset, hardware troubleshooting, and optional Z-Wave Plus / ZigBee network module setup.

Overview

The Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt is a keyless-entry deadbolt supporting Master and User PIN codes, with optional Z-Wave Plus, ZigBee, or Bluetooth network modules for smart home integration. Installation instructions can also be found step-by-step in the Bilt App.

Installation Steps

1. Prepare the door per the door prep template.
2. Install latch & strike plate — set backset to 2-3/8" (default) or 2-3/4" position. The bolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position; note the horizontal orientation of the mechanism.
3. Install the touchscreen escutcheon on the outside of the door — bolt must be retracted before installing.
4. Install the interior mounting plate — loosen the screw to remove the cover first.
5. Attach the cable assembly connecting the interior and exterior components.
6. Install the interior escutcheon using the provided screws.
7. Test operation — verify the bolt is in the retracted (unlocked) position before installing batteries.
8. Install the optional Network Module if using Z-Wave Plus, ZigBee, or another smart home module.
9. Install batteries and replace the cover — tighten the screw to secure.

Programming Instructions

Maximum user codes vary by network module: 250 with Z-Wave Plus or ZigBee, 25 without a network module or with an iM1 module, and 12 with Bluetooth.

1. Creating the Master PIN Code

Must be performed upon installation or after a factory reset — no programming or use is possible until this step is complete.

1. The lock prompts "Register Master Code. Press the gear key to continue."
2. Enter a 4-8 digit Master PIN code followed by the gear key.
3. The lock confirms "Registered."

2. Creating User PIN Codes

The Master PIN code must be created first.

1. Enter the Master PIN code, then press the check key.
2. The lock enters "Menu Mode" — enter the appropriate menu number and press the gear key.
3. Enter a 4-8 digit User PIN code (code flashes to confirm).
4. To add more user codes, repeat the entry. To end programming, press the designated key.

3. Unlocking with a PIN Code

Enter the PIN code and press the check key to unlock.

Resetting the Lock to Factory Default

Resetting deletes all user codes, including the Master PIN, and restores all programming to defaults.

1. Remove the battery cover and batteries.
2. Remove the interior escutcheon to access the reset button (located beside the PCB cable connector).
3. While pressing the reset button (minimum 3 seconds), reinstall the batteries, then release the reset button.
4. Replace the battery cover.

After reset, Master PIN Code creation is the only available option and must be completed before any other programming.

Factory Settings

Key Definitions

• All Code Lockout Mode: Master-code-enabled feature that restricts all user (except Master) PIN code access; a red locked padlock appears when a code is entered during lockout.
• Automatic Re-lock Time: After a successful unlock, the door automatically re-locks after 30 seconds (when enabled).
• Inside Indicator Light: Interior escutcheon light showing locked status; enable/disable via Advanced Lock Settings (Main Menu #3).
• Language Setting Mode: English (1), Spanish (2), or French (3) for voice prompts.
• Low Battery: Low Battery Warning indicator flashes red; use the mechanical key override if power is fully lost.
• Master PIN Code: Used for programming, feature settings, and lock/unlock; must be created before any other programming.
• Network Module Setting: Available through Main Menu (7) when the optional Network Module is installed, allowing connection to a network controller.
• One Touch Locking: When the latch is retracted, activating the keypad extends the latch during (or when disabling) Automatic Re-lock.
• Privacy Mode: Disabled by default; hold the privacy button 4 seconds to enable do-not-disturb mode, disabling all PIN codes.
• Shutdown Time: Unit shuts down (flashing red) for 60 seconds after the wrong-code entry limit (5 attempts) is reached.
• Tamper Alert: Audible alarm sounds if the outside lock is forcibly removed from the door.
• User PIN Code: Operates the lock; max 250 with Z-Wave Plus/ZigBee, 25 without a network module or with iM1, 12 with Bluetooth.
• Volume Setting Mode: Low (default), High, or Silent for PIN code verification tones.
• Wrong Code Entry Limit: After 5 unsuccessful attempts, the unit shuts down and disallows operation.

Feature Programming Menu (Model YRD226, via Master PIN)

1. Touch screen with the back of the hand or palm to activate.
2. Enter the Master PIN code followed by the check key ("Menu mode, enter number, press check key to continue").
3. Enter the digit corresponding to the desired function, followed by the check key, and follow voice prompts.

Menu functions include: Master PIN Code Setting, User PIN Code Registration (register/delete), Advanced Lock Settings (Automatic Re-lock timing, Inside Indicator Light, One Touch Locking, Privacy Setting, Lock Handing), Volume Setting (High/Low/Silent), Language Setting Mode, Lockout Mode, and Network Module Setting (Join/Exit Network — network module models only).

Model YRD620 additionally supports Escape Return Mode (mutually exclusive with Automatic Re-lock) and Set Up SEOS Card.

Programming Troubleshooting

Note: When batteries are replaced on Network Module locks, the real-time clock resets — verify the correct date/time, especially around Daylight Saving Time.

Hardware Troubleshooting

• Bolt will not deadlock: Check clearance of the bolt within the strike-side jamb (deepen the bolt pocket if needed); check bolt/strike alignment by extending/retracting the bolt with the door open.
• Bolt does not extend/retract smoothly: Check bolt/strike alignment, door backset relative to bolt adjustments, proper door boring, that the keypad wire harness is routed under the bolt, and that the bolt is installed correct-side-up.
• Keypad numerics are scrolling: Remove the interior escutcheon and verify the wire harness lies flat in the recessed area, is properly routed, and tucked under the cable guide.

Changing the Cylinder

1. To remove: Remove the outside escutcheon and rubber gasket; insert a small flathead screwdriver under the spring and gently lift it (the cylinder notch engages the spring); pull the cylinder outward to remove.
2. To install: Reverse the removal steps, ensuring the tailpiece is the correct length: 3-1/2" (88.8mm) for 1-3/8"-2" thick doors (requires Thin Door Kit for the thinnest doors); 3-3/4" (95.3mm) for 2"-2-1/4" thick doors. Tailpiece dimensions: T=.098" (2.5mm), W=.2" (5.2mm).

Optional Network Modules

Z-Wave Plus Module

Batteries must be removed before removing/inserting the module. This is a security-enabled Z-Wave Plus product requiring a Security Enabled Z-Wave Controller to fully utilize all functions; it can operate in any Z-Wave network with certified devices from other manufacturers.

• Enroll (Inclusion Mode): Enter the Master PIN code + check key, then the designated menu keys per the printed instructions.
• Unenroll (Exclusion Mode): Enter the Master PIN code + check key, then the designated menu keys.
• Factory reset without a controller: see the Lock Installation Manual; use only when the network primary controller is missing or inoperable.

ZigBee Module

Batteries must be removed before removing/inserting the module. This is a security-enabled ZigBee product requiring a Security Enabled ZigBee Controller; operable in any ZigBee network with certified devices from other manufacturers.

Yale Assure App Quick Start (Bluetooth models)

1. Download the App: Get the free Yale Assure app from the App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone; allow location and notification access for the best experience.
3. Create an account or sign in, then follow the in-app tutorial.
4. Add your lock — tap "Add Lock" and follow on-screen instructions without walking away from the lock or closing the app during pairing.
5. Sharing digital keys — tap a key, then "Manage Users" to send a permanent or scheduled key to a contact; remove access anytime via "Remove User."
6. Twist & Go — an added security mode requiring you to rotate your smartphone 90° left then 90° right before tapping the checkmark to unlock, preventing unintended unlocking.
7. Lock Settings — tap the lock icon to rename the lock, adjust settings (wrong code limits, one-touch locking, operating mode), and view access history.
