Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD226/YRD426), covering mechanical install, PIN programming, factory reset, troubleshooting, and Z-Wave Plus/ZigBee module setup.
Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt (YRD226/YRD426), covering mechanical installation, PIN code programming, factory reset, hardware troubleshooting, and optional Z-Wave Plus / ZigBee network module setup.
The Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen Deadbolt is a keyless-entry deadbolt supporting Master and User PIN codes, with optional Z-Wave Plus, ZigBee, or Bluetooth network modules for smart home integration. Installation instructions can also be found step-by-step in the Bilt App.
Warning: Failure to follow the installation instructions could result in damage to the product and void the factory warranty.
Maximum user codes vary by network module: 250 with Z-Wave Plus or ZigBee, 25 without a network module or with an iM1 module, and 12 with Bluetooth.
Must be performed upon installation or after a factory reset — no programming or use is possible until this step is complete.
The Master PIN code must be created first.
Enter the PIN code and press the check key to unlock.
Resetting deletes all user codes, including the Master PIN, and restores all programming to defaults.
After reset, Master PIN Code creation is the only available option and must be completed before any other programming.

| Symptom | Suggested Action |
|---|---|
| Lock does not respond (door open/accessible) | Use a larger area of the hand or fingers, verify contact with at least 3 areas; check touchscreen response, battery installation/polarity/condition, and that the touchscreen harness is fully connected and not pinched. |
| Lock does not respond (door locked/inaccessible) | Batteries may be fully discharged — use the mechanical key to gain entry and replace batteries. |
| Unit works for a while then shows no reaction; lights dim | Batteries lack sufficient power — replace batteries. |
| Unit chimes for code acceptance but door won't open | Check for foreign objects in the door gap; verify wire harness is firmly connected to the PCB. |
| Unit unlocks but won't auto re-lock | Check if Auto Re-lock is enabled/disabled as desired; check the low battery indicator and replace batteries if lit. |
| PIN codes will not register | Codes must be 4-8 digits; the same code can't be used for multiple users; registration is controlled by the Master Code holder; codes must be entered within 5 seconds while the touchscreen is active. |
| "Invalid code" error or lock times out | Lockout Mode may be enabled — only the Master user can enable/disable it. |
| Red padlock icon with different tones | Lock is set to Lockout Mode; managed only by the Master Code. |
| Unit operates but makes no sound | Check whether Silent Mode is enabled. |
| "Low Battery" message | Replace all four AA alkaline batteries. |
| "Wrong number of digits" message | Digits entered were incorrect or incomplete — re-enter the correct code followed by the check key. |
Note: When batteries are replaced on Network Module locks, the real-time clock resets — verify the correct date/time, especially around Daylight Saving Time.
Batteries must be removed before removing/inserting the module. This is a security-enabled Z-Wave Plus product requiring a Security Enabled Z-Wave Controller to fully utilize all functions; it can operate in any Z-Wave network with certified devices from other manufacturers.
