Programming, troubleshooting, and feature reference for the Yale Assure Lock SL — Key Free Touchscreen Deadbolt (models YRD256/YRD456). Physical installation involves detailed diagrams (latch/strike plate, escutcheons, cable assembly) — see the full downloadable PDF for illustrated installation steps.
Master PIN Code must be created before any further programming. Maximum user codes depend on network module:
Must be done upon installation or after a factory reset — programming and use of the lock is not possible until this step is complete.
Master PIN code must be created first.
Enter PIN Code, press the check key.

| Automatic Re-lock | Disabled |
| Inside Indicator Light | Disabled (Off) |

Warning: resetting deletes ALL user codes (including the Master PIN code) and resets all programming to defaults.
After reset, creating a new Master PIN Code is the only available option, and must be done before any other programming.

This lock supports security-enabled Z-Wave Plus or ZigBee network modules using encrypted messages. Must be used with a security-enabled controller to fully utilize implemented functions. Non-battery-operated nodes act as repeaters regardless of vendor, to increase network reliability.
Important: batteries must be removed before removing/inserting the network module — remove battery cover, remove batteries, remove/insert module, reinstall batteries, replace cover.
To Enroll (Inclusion Mode): Enter Master PIN + check key, then the appropriate menu keys per the network module's instructions.
To Unenroll (Exclusion Mode): Enter Master PIN + check key, then the appropriate menu keys per the network module's instructions.
Factory Reset with no controller present: see the full Lock Installation Manual — use only when the network's primary controller is missing or inoperable.
| Symptom | Suggested Action |
|---|---|
| Lock doesn't respond, door open/accessible | Touch with whole hand/larger area, ensure contact at 3+ points; check touchscreen numbers respond. |
| Lock doesn't respond, door locked/inaccessible | Batteries likely fully discharged — apply 9V battery to backup terminals below touchscreen. |
| Unit on for a while, then no reaction, lights dim | Batteries lack sufficient power — replace them. |
| Chimes to indicate code acceptance, but door won't open | Check for foreign objects in door gap; check wire harness is firmly connected to PCB. |
| Unlocks fine but won't auto re-lock | Check if Auto Re-lock Mode is enabled/disabled as desired; check low battery indicator. |
| PIN codes won't register | Codes must be 4-8 digits; can't duplicate another user's code; only the Master can manage registration. |
| "Invalid code" error or lock times out without responding | Lockout Mode is likely enabled — only the Master can enable/disable it. |
| No sound during operation | Check if Silent Mode is enabled (Volume Setting, Feature #4). |
| "Low Battery" response | Replace all 4 AA Alkaline batteries. |
| "Wrong number of digits" response | Digits entered were incorrect/incomplete — re-enter the correct code followed by the check key. |
Note: This lock has no mechanical key override. Yale recommends using additional entry points into the dwelling in case of lockout, despite built-in prevention features (9V jumper, low battery warnings).
