Installation and programming instructions for the Yale Assure Lock Push Button Deadbolt (YRD216/YRD416), including optional Z-Wave Plus network module setup.

Failure to follow these instructions could result in damage to the product and void the factory warranty. Download the Bilt app for interactive step-by-step installation instructions and product registration.

    Installation Overview

Full illustrated steps are in the downloadable PDF and the Bilt app. High-level sequence:

    1. Prepare the door per the included template (backset, cross-bore, edge-bore).
    2. Install the latch and strike plate — bolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position; note the horizontal orientation of the mechanism.
    3. Install the keypad escutcheon on the outside of the door (bolt retracted).
    4. Install the interior mounting plate (loosen the screw to remove the cover first).
    5. Attach the cable assembly connecting exterior and interior components.
    6. Install the interior escutcheon.
    7. Test operation before installing batteries — bolt must be retracted.
    8. Install the optional network module (if using Z-Wave Plus or similar).
    9. Install batteries and replace the cover, tightening the screw.

Continue with programming instructions below to customize the lock after installation.

    Programming Instructions

The Master PIN Code must be created before any further programming. Max User Codes: 250 with Network Module, 25 without.

    1. Creating the Master PIN Code

Enter the 4–8 digit Master PIN Code as prompted by the keypad sequence to register it. This is required immediately after installation or a factory reset.

    2. Creating User PIN Codes

Master PIN code must exist first (max 250 with Network Module, 25 without). Enter the Master PIN, follow the prompts, then enter a 4–8 digit user PIN code to register each user.

    3. Unlocking with a PIN Code

Enter the PIN code and press the check mark key — the lock responds "Unlock." Keep a PIN Code Management chart (User Type, Name, User #, PIN Code) — duplicate as needed for household records (up to 250 users with Network Module).

    Resetting to Factory Default

Warning: Resetting deletes all user codes (including the Master PIN) and restores all programming to defaults.

    1. Remove the battery cover and batteries.
    2. Remove the interior escutcheon to access the reset button (located beside the PCB cable connector).
    3. While pressing the reset button (minimum 3 seconds), reinstall the batteries, then release the button.
    4. Replace the battery cover.

After reset, creating the Master PIN Code is the only available option and must be done before any other programming.

    Definitions

    • All Code Lockout Mode: Enabled by the Master code — restricts all user (non-Master) PIN access; keypad flashes 8 times and beeps 3 times when triggered.
    • Audio Mode: Disabling (option 3) mutes the code confirmation tone for quiet areas.
    • Automatic Re-lock Time: Re-locks 30 seconds after a successful unlock.
    • Low Battery: Status indicator flashes RED. Use the key override if power is completely lost.
    • Master PIN Code: Required before any programming; also operates lock/unlock.
    • Network Module Setting: Accessible via Menu (7) or the wireless button on the interior escutcheon.
    • One Touch Locking: Activating the keypad while the latch is retracted extends the latch.
    • Privacy Mode: Disabled by default — press the privacy button for 4 seconds to enable do-not-disturb mode (disables all PIN codes).
    • Shutdown Time: Locks out for 60 seconds after the wrong-code entry limit is reached.
    • Tamper Alert: Audible alarm if forcible removal of the exterior lock is attempted.
    • User PIN Code: Max 250 with Network Module, 25 without.

    Programming Troubleshooting

    • Lock doesn't respond, door open/accessible: Check each keypad button responds; verify batteries are installed correctly and in good condition; check the cable is fully connected and not pinched.
    • Lock doesn't respond, door locked/inaccessible: Batteries may be fully discharged — use the key override to enter and replace batteries.
    • Code accepted but door won't open: Check for another locking device on the door; check for foreign objects in the door gap; verify the cable connection to the PC board.
    • Won't automatically re-lock: Check Auto Re-lock Mode is enabled; check for low battery and replace if needed.
    • PIN codes won't register: Must be 4–8 digits; can't duplicate another user's code; management is controlled by the Master Code — contact the Master user.
    • Beeps/flashes red & blue 7 times, won't unlock: All Code Lockout Mode is active — only the Master user can disable it.
    • No sound during operation: Enable Audio Mode.
    • Intermittent RED flashes: Low battery — replace all 4 AA alkaline batteries.
    • Note: When batteries are replaced on Network locks, verify the real-time clock (date/time) via the User Interface, especially around Daylight Saving Time.

    Hardware Troubleshooting

    • Bolt won't deadlock: Check bolt clearance in the strike-side jamb (increase pocket depth if needed); check bolt/strike alignment by extending/retracting with the door open.
    • Bolt doesn't extend/retract smoothly: Check bolt and strike alignment; verify backset matches prior bolt adjustments; verify door prep and re-bore misaligned/undersized holes; confirm the keypad wire harness routes under the bolt and the bolt is installed correct-side-up.
    • Keypad numerics scrolling: Remove the interior escutcheon and verify the wire harness lies flat and is properly routed and tucked under the cable guide.

Changing the Lock — Replacing the Cylinder

    1. Remove the outside escutcheon, rubber gasket, and the two screws holding the plastic guide.
    2. Remove the plastic guide, then the screw/washer holding the cylinder.
    3. Remove the cylinder housing by pulling the tailpiece away from the escutcheon.
    4. Before installing a new cylinder, confirm correct tailpiece length: 1-3/8"–2" thick doors = 3-1/2" (88.8mm) tailpiece; 2"–2-1/4" thick doors = 3-3/4" (95.3mm) tailpiece (thinner doors require the Thin Door Kit). Tailpiece thickness .098" (2.5mm), width .2" (5.2mm).
    5. Reverse the removal steps to install the new cylinder.

    Optional Z-Wave Plus Network Module

Important: Remove the battery cover and batteries before inserting/removing the network module; reinstall batteries and cover afterward.

    • This is a security-enabled Z-Wave Plus product using encrypted messaging — requires a Security Enabled Z-Wave Controller for full functionality; compatible with any certified Z-Wave network.
    • To enroll (Inclusion Mode): Enter Master PIN + gear key, then the on-screen two-key sequence.
    • To unenroll (Exclusion Mode): Enter Master PIN + gear key, then the on-screen two-key sequence.
    • Factory reset without a controller: see the Lock Installation Manual — use only if the network's primary controller is missing or inoperable.
    • System integrators: Z-Wave Plus association/parameter info at YaleHome.com/ZwavePlus.
