Quick Setup Guide for the X10 SC12A Supervised Security Console — a home security system with automatic dialer, RF door/window sensors, RF motion detectors, and RF keyfob remotes.

Overview

The SC12A Console calls friends or relatives (in your own recorded voice) in the event of a break-in, and lets a friend or neighbor listen in through the Console's built-in microphone to assess whether police should be called. Accessories include battery-powered RF door/window sensors, RF motion detectors, and RF keyfob remotes for arming/disarming.

Console Setup

1. Open the center lid on the Console. Attach the power supply cord to the connector labeled "power supply" and plug the power supply into any AC outlet (use only the included power supply).
2. Attach the supplied phone cord to the connector labeled "phone." Plug the other end into an unused phone jack.
3. Install 4 AA alkaline batteries (not supplied) in the Console's battery compartment.

Close the battery cover. If you re-open it after applying power, TAMPER appears on the display — enter the PIN (default 0000) to clear it. The display then shows HOME CONTROL and the time of day.

Initializing the Devices

Door/Window Sensors

1. Pry the two halves of the sensor apart and install 2 AAA alkaline batteries inside (observe polarity). Some sensors use 2 AA batteries — follow the instructions included with that sensor.
2. Set the internal switch to MAX (left) for doors, or MIN (right) for windows.
3. Press and hold the button inside the sensor for 3–4 seconds, then release. This initializes the sensor and picks a random code used for registration with the Console.

Motion Detectors

1. Remove the front cover and install 2 AA alkaline batteries. Replace the cover (some units have a tamper switch).
2. Press and hold the TEST button on the back for 3–4 seconds, then release. Place the unit face down so it doesn't see motion during registration.

Keyfob Remotes

Press and hold the ARM button for 3–4 seconds, then release. This initializes the remote and picks a random code used for registration.

Registering the Devices

All features except Home Control require Menu mode access:

1. Press either Menu up/down button. The display shows ENTER PIN. Press 0000 (default PIN — see owner's manual to change it).
2. The First Level Menu (INSTALL) appears. Press the up/down button repeatedly to step through menu items 1–9; press OK to select one.
3. To leave the First Level Menu, repeatedly press Clear.

When you see INSTALL on the display, press OK.

• Keyfob Remote: press any button on the remote. The Console beeps and displays RMOT 1 SET (increments for each additional remote registered).
• Door/Window Sensor: move the magnet away from the sensor. The Console chimes and displays ZONE 1 SET (increments for each additional sensor registered).
• Motion Detector: press the TEST button on the back (or turn the unit over so it sees motion). The Console displays ZONE 3 SET, for example (increments for each additional detector registered).

Press Clear to back out of the menus; confirm with 1 (YES, return to HOME CONTROL) or 2 (NO, stay in INSTALL menu).

Installing Door/Window Sensors

• Set the internal DELAY slide switch to MIN (windows — always trigger instantly) or MAX (doors — trigger after the preset entry delay when armed AWAY).
• Attach the sensor to the wall using the mounting screws provided; replace the cover.
• Fit the sensor as high as possible at the top of the door/window.
• Make sure the arrows on the magnet and sensor face each other and separate cleanly when the door/window opens.
• To protect two doors/windows close together, use a sensor with an additional set of magnetic switch contacts (see owner's manual).

Installing Motion Detectors

• Set the slide switch on the back to position 1 for instant triggering (maximum sensitivity), or position 2 to trigger only after two movements are sensed.
• Attach the detector to a wall at a height of 5–6 ft. using the mounting bracket and screws provided.
• Point the detector so it looks slightly downward. Effective range is roughly 30–40 ft. at 90°.

Arming the System

• ARM HOME (on the Console) — arms all door/window sensors instantly. Motion detectors will not trip the system in this mode.
• ARM AWAY (on the Console) — arms all door/window sensors and motion detectors after the set EXIT DELAY (default 1 minute). Entering the home afterward triggers an ENTRY DELAY (default 30 seconds) before the alarm sounds, giving you time to disarm.
• ARM on the Keyfob — always arms instantly in AWAY mode; all sensors and detectors trip instantly when armed this way.

Disarming the System

• Keyfob: press DISARM to disarm instantly. The zone that was violated shows on the Console display — press Arm and Disarm again to clear it.
• Console: enter your 4-digit PIN (default 0000 unless changed).
