    Owner's manual for the X10 Supervised Security System, Model SC1200 — a console-based wireless home security system with automatic telephone dialer, remote arm/disarm, and light/appliance control.

    Overview

    The X10 Supervised Security System Console with automatic dialer calls neighbors or friends in the event of a break-in. Battery-powered wireless Door/Window Sensors trigger the alarm when a door or window opens; a battery-powered RF Motion Detector protects an indoor area. A Keychain Remote Control arms and disarms the system, and can also turn lights on/off (requires X10 Modules). All sensors and remotes use random digital security coding.

    The system supports:

    • Up to 16 Keychain Security Remotes with arm/disarm, panic, and security light control buttons
    • Up to 30 total Wireless Door/Window Sensors and/or Wireless Motion Detectors, in any combination (e.g. 15 + 15)
    • 2 additional hard-wired inputs (zones 31 and 32)
    • Optional X10 Home Automation modules (plug-in Lamp/Appliance Modules, wired-in Wall Switch Modules) to flash lights when the alarm trips

    Note: The security functions of this system have not been tested by Underwriters Laboratories.

    Installation

    Locating Components

    Choose a central Security Console location with access to a modular telephone jack and AC outlet; it can sit on a shelf/table or be wall-mounted. Plan sensor/detector locations so the RF path to the Console isn't obstructed by large metal objects (e.g. refrigerators) and passes through as few walls as possible. Door/Window Sensors may be hidden behind drapes for discreet installation.

    Attaching Cables

    A telephone cord with RJ11 connectors is provided. The Console should ideally have its own phone line; alternatively use the supplied 'T' adapter to share a line with an existing phone. Note: not designed for RJ31X connections. Attach the power supply cord to the connector labeled "power supply" and plug it into an unswitched AC outlet — you must use the included power supply (it contains circuitry for controlling X10 Modules; a standard 8V DC supply will not work).

    Fitting Backup Batteries

    Open the battery compartment at the top right of the Console and install 4 AA alkaline batteries (not supplied) — no need to disconnect power. An indicator turns on if batteries are low or not installed.

    Mounting the Console

    Can sit freestanding on a table/shelf or be wall-mounted using the two slotted holes on the back. If not wall-mounting, insert the included rubber plugs into the slots to tilt the console forward for better display viewing.

    Console Setup Overview

    After connecting power, the display shows the time with "HOME CONTROL" on the top line. All features except Home Control require Menu mode: press either Menu up/down button, enter the default PIN 0000 (changeable later), then use Menu buttons to step through options 1–9 or press the corresponding number directly.

    Console Keyboard Buttons

    • 0–9: number entries
    • On / Off: send X10 On/Off messages, or enter am/pm in a time
    • Menu up / Menu down: enter menu and navigate items
    • Clear: clear entries, back up menu levels, bypass problem zones
    • Enter: terminate an entry
    • Arm Home / Arm Away: arm the console in the respective mode

    First Menu Level

    Registering Devices

    Keychain Remotes

    1. Press and hold the ARM button for 3–4 seconds and release — this initializes the remote with a random security code.
    2. Enter Menu mode with PIN 0000, navigate to INSTALL, press OK — display shows "ZONE."
    3. Press any button on the Keychain remote. The Console beeps and displays "RMOT 1 SET," etc., as you register more remotes.
    4. Press Clear to exit; confirm YES to return to Home Control.

    Door/Window Sensors

    1. Install 2 AAA batteries (observe polarity). Set the switch to MAX (left) for doors or MIN (right) for windows.
    2. Press and hold the internal button 3–4 seconds to initialize with a random code. Replace the cover and place the magnet next to the sensor (arrows aligned).
    3. Enter Menu mode with the PIN, navigate to INSTALL > ZONE. Optionally press a specific zone number first to control assignment.
    4. Move the magnet away from the sensor — the Console chimes and displays "ZONE 1 SET" (incrementing for each additional sensor).

    Removing a sensor: at the ZONE screen, press the zone number then CLEAR; confirm YES.

    Mounting tips: mount as high as possible at the top of the door/window; ensure the sensor and magnet arrows face each other and separate cleanly when opened. For two doors/windows close together, use an additional magnetic switch pair (sold separately) to register as its own zone. Set the internal DELAY slide switch to MIN for instant alarm triggering (windows) or MAX to trigger after the entry delay when armed Away (doors).

    The console's 1–32 zone display shows open (steady on), problem (slow flash), or bypassed (fast flash) zones. Attempting to arm with an open/problem zone triggers continuous beeping; press Clear to bypass and move to the next problem zone.

    Motion Detectors

    1. Install 2 AAA batteries and replace the cover.
    2. Press and hold the TEST button on the back for 3–4 seconds to initialize. Place the unit face-down during registration so it doesn't see motion.
    3. Enter Menu mode, navigate to INSTALL > ZONE.
    4. Press the TEST button on the back (or flip the unit to see motion) — the Console displays "ZONE 3 SET," etc.

    Installation: mount at 5–6 ft. height using the included bracket, angled slightly downward. Set the rear slide switch to position 1 (instant trigger, max sensitivity) or position 2 (triggers after two detected movements).

    Testing: set switch to position 1, press and hold TEST about 1 second (LED flashes twice), wait 20 seconds to settle, then walk in front of it — the LED lights on each detected movement. Press TEST again to return to normal mode (or wait ~2 minutes for automatic return).

    Hard-Wired Inputs

    Two additional hard-wired magnetic contact switches can be connected as zones 31 and 32 (treated as delayed zones with exit/entry delays when armed Away). Remove the shorting link before installing hard-wired contacts. Combined with wireless sensors, total zones supported: 30 wireless + 2 hard-wired = 32.

    Console Configuration

    Setting the Clock

    Menu > SET CLOCK (option 2): enter time, then am/pm, then OK.

    Setting Phone Numbers

    Menu > PHONE NUMS (option 3): select PHONE 1–6, enter up to 16 digits (Off/pm inserts a pause), press OK.

    Recording the Outgoing Message

    Menu > MESSAGE (option 4) > RECORD: speak your message into the Console's microphone (12 seconds max), e.g. "There's an alarm in progress at [address]; please press any button on your touch-tone phone to listen in." Select REPLAY to play it back. Note: messages cannot be recorded remotely via telephone.

    Changing the PIN

    Menu > NEW PIN (option 5): enter a new 4-digit PIN and press OK. Choose something memorable — if forgotten, contact x10.com for reset instructions.

    Clearing Memory

    Menu > MEMORY CLEAR (option 6): CLEAR ALL SENSORS, CLEAR ALL REMOTES, CLEAR ALL TIMERS, or MASTER RESET (returns immediately to Home Control).

    Setting Options

    Menu > OPTIONS (option 7):

    • CHIME: ON (chimes when doors/windows open) or OFF
    • SIREN: ON or OFF (silent alarm)
    • HOUSECODE: select via Menu up/down
    • LIGHTCODE: select via Menu up/down

    Setting Delays

    Menu > DELAYS (option 8), values in seconds up to 99:

    • Entry Delay: default 30 seconds
    • Exit Delay: default 60 seconds
    • Dial Delay: default 5 seconds
    • Answer Delay: default 30 seconds

    Setting Timers

    Menu > SET TIMER (option 9): enter a Unit Number (1–16), then an ON time (am/pm) and OFF time, then choose DAILY, ONCE ONLY, or RANDOM (varies time within the programmed hour). Up to 12 timer "pairs" total. Cycle through stored timers with Menu up/down; press Clear on a displayed timer to delete it, or OK to replace it.

    Using the System

    Arming / Disarming

    • ARM HOME (Console): arms Door/Window Sensors instantly; Motion Detectors do not trip the alarm.
    • ARM AWAY (Console): arms all sensors and detectors after the Exit Delay; Entry Delay applies when you return.
    • Keychain ARM: always arms in Away mode, but instantly (no exit delay).
    • Disarm: press DISARM on the Keychain remote, or enter your 4-digit PIN on the Console.

    Problem Zones

    Attempting to arm with an issue shows one of: OPEN ZONE # (door/window open), PROBLEM ZONE # (sensor hasn't reported in 4 hours), or TAMPER ZONE # (sensor cover open). Press Clear (Bypass) to skip that zone and continue arming; a bypassed zone stays bypassed until the system is disarmed. If the Console's own tamper door is open, it must be closed before arming.

    When There's an Alarm

    Arming (Home or Away) and then opening a protected door/window, triggering a Motion Detector (Away mode), or pressing Panic (Arm + Disarm together on the Keychain remote) trips the alarm: a loud siren sounds and configured security lights flash.

    Controlling Lights and Appliances

    With one or more Lamp Modules installed, press the module's assigned number button on the Console (while displaying HOME CONTROL) then On/Off to control that light. The Keychain Remote's A/B buttons control lights set to the Console's Security LIGHTCODEs.

    Setting Up an (Optional) Lamp Module

    1. Set the red House Code dial to match the Console's Housecode, and the black Unit Code dial to any unused number.
    2. Plug a lamp into the Module, then plug the Module into the same outlet as your controller.
    3. Test by pressing the Console's On/Off buttons for that Unit Code.

    Rating: Lamp Modules support incandescent lamps up to 300W only — not fluorescent, energy-saving, low-voltage, or dimmer-controlled lamps. Caution: Do not connect appliances (coffee pot, heater) to a Lamp Module — use an Appliance Module instead to avoid damage or fire hazard.

    Operation from an Outside Telephone

    Calling home: the Console answers and says "Please enter PIN." Enter your PIN via touch-tone; it confirms "PIN accepted" or says "Error."

    • 0, then * — arms the Console
    • 0, then # — disarms the Console
    • 9, 9, then * — announces current status (Armed Home/Away, Disarmed, Panic, or "Alarm in zone [1–32]")
    • [unit#], then * — turns that X10 Module unit code ON (e.g. "4, *" → "4 On")
    • [unit#], then # — turns that unit code OFF

    If you own an answering machine: the security system will not answer if the machine (or a person) picks up first — wait for the outgoing message to finish, then enter your PIN as usual. Note the answering machine will record any touch tones and the security system's spoken responses.

    Battery Information

    • Door/Window Sensors, Motion Detectors, and Keychain remotes run roughly one year on their batteries; replace every 6 months as a precaution.
    • The Console's 4 AA backup batteries provide ~12 hours of runtime during a power failure (siren and dialing still function; house lights will not flash). If both AC and batteries fail, stored numbers/message/sensors/remotes are retained, but the clock will need resetting.
    • Console batteries can be replaced any time, even while powered, with no special procedure.
    • Keychain remotes use two CR2016 lithium batteries; replace within 30 seconds of removing old ones to retain the security code (no re-registration needed if code is retained).
    • Sensor/Motion Detector batteries: replace within 30 seconds to retain the code.

    Troubleshooting

    Problem Solution
    System does not arm Check the Remote's indicator lights when pressing ARM; replace batteries and reregister if needed.
    Console displays PROBLEM + zone number when arming A sensor hasn't reported in 4 hours — check its batteries, or check for an open door/window. Press CLEAR to bypass the zone, then ARM, to arm the rest of the system.
    Repetitive trouble alarm when trying to arm Press DISARM and check each sensor / closed doors and windows, or press CLEAR during the alarm to bypass the problem zone, then arm again. Check TAMPER zones' sensor covers, and the Console's own lid.
    Alarm trips when entering before you can disarm Arm the system in AWAY mode to get an entry delay.
    Lights won't turn on/off from the Keychain Remote Confirm the SECURITY LIGHT code is set correctly; check the light's switch and bulb; try plugging the Module into another outlet; verify the Remote's indicator and Module dial settings.
    Door/window opened but alarm doesn't trip Confirm the system is armed; test the sensor's internal TEST button and check its indicator; replace batteries/reinstall if the indicator doesn't light.
    Appliances turn off during an alarm The system flashes lights by repeatedly transmitting the SECURITY light codes; any Appliance Modules on the same codes will also toggle. Use separate codes if this is undesired.
    No beep from Console when registering a Remote Re-initialize the remote (hold ARM 3–4 sec).
    No beep when registering a Door/Window Sensor or Motion Detector With the system disarmed, confirm it chimes on sensor TEST (or alarm trips on Motion Detector TEST while armed) — if not, reregister the device.
    Battery indicator on Console is lit Replace the 4 AA backup batteries (provides ~12 hrs backup); replace at least yearly.
    Lost a remote control Clear and reinitialize the complete system to prevent unauthorized use of the lost remote.
    System arms/disarms by itself A neighbor may have a compatible system on the same RF codes; reinitialize the complete system to select different codes.
    Alarm cause remains on display after disarming Arm and disarm again from a remote, or disarm via the Console menu/PIN, to clear it.

    Warranty

    X10 Wireless Technology, Inc. warrants X10 products against defective material and workmanship for one (1) year from the original retail purchase date. X10 will repair or replace, at its sole discretion, a defective product returned within the warranty period with proof of purchase.
